The first month of the 2022-23 NHL season is in the books and it looks like we are going to have a season to remember.

Last year’s Stanley Cup finalists, the Colorado Avalanche and the Tampa Bay Lightning, are not among the top teams in their conference meaning that things may dramatically change. In the next few lines, we are going to take a look at the best 11 teams so far in the season.

Honorable Mention

Seattle Kraken

After having a tough inaugural season, no one expected to see the Kraken be a contender so quickly but the way they are playing so far in the season, it will not be a miracle to see them in the Playoffs.

They won five straight games to start the month of November and they even managed to defeat the Avalanche and the Kings on the road.

Top 10 NHL Teams

10. Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets just missed the Playoffs last season and they are making sure that will not be the case this time around.

The Jets are playing excellent at home winning 5 of the first 6 games. They are very consistent and are the second-best defensive team in the league allowing only 2.36 goals per game.

9. Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars are among the top three teams in the Western Conference at the moment which is not a big of a surprise.

Jason Robertson is having a great season as he is third in the league in points. The Stars are the second-best offensive team in the league scoring 3.75 goals per game and are also ranked second in power play percentage with 33.3%.

8. Edmonton Oilers

If we look only at the current team record, the Oilers will not be on this list but with the potential they have and from what we saw last season, they are definitely a contender.

Connor McDavid is leading the league both in goals scored and in points with Leon Draisaitl being second in the point race.

These two are definitely the best duo in the league and no team will have an easy task against them in a potential Playoff series.

7. Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche are not having their best start of the season but they are still the defending champions and the team to beat.

One of the reasons for their slow start is the fact that they played overseas and are generally a team that needs some time to fire up.

Nathan MacKinnon is on top of the assists list at this point of the season and with him doing what he does best, the Avalanche will soon get closer to the top of the conference.

6. Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes are coming off their best regular season as they finished with 116 points last year.

They are not doing so well at this point but are definitely a tough team that needs to be mentioned on this list.

The Hurricanes are a great collective and even though they are not among the best teams in individual stats categories, they are very difficult to play against.

5. New York Islanders

The New York Islanders are having a great start of the season and have won 8 of the last 10 games until the mid-point of November.

Mathew Barzal is the leader of this team and he is currently third among the best passers in the league. Goalie Ilya Sorokin is another reason for the Islanders good start as he is a top 5 in saving percentage at this point in the league.

4. New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils are the top story of the season right now as they made a huge leap compared to last season.

They finished 14th in the Eastern Conference in the 2021-22 season and here they are the second seed at this point.

Four of the Devils’ players are among the top 5 in the league in plus/minus category and the team is third in the league with 3.75 goals per game.

3. Los Angeles Kings

Many were surprised by how deep the Kings went in the Playoffs last season but now they are seen as one of the top contenders to win the Stanley Cup.

The Kings are currently second in the Western Conference and the only way they may go is up. Kevin FIala is having a great start to the season just like Trevor Moore and Gabriel Vilardi.

2. Vegas Golden Knights

Last season, the Vegas Golden Knights missed the Playoffs for the first time since they joined the NHL and they are making sure that is not going to happen again any time soon.

The Golden Knights are on top of the West and have won 8 of 9 road games at this point. They are fourth in the league in both offensive and defensive play with 3.59 scored and 2.47 allowed goals per game.

1. Boston Bruins

It has been all Bruins in the opening month of the NHL season as they have won 14 of the starting 16 games.

The Bruins have lost only once in the past month and they are not about to stop that series any time soon. Boston has the best record in the league and is on top of the league with 4 scored goals per game and 2.19 conceded.

They also lead the league in penalty kill percentage and Keith Kinkaid is leading the league with a 96.8 saving percentage.
