By Fan Rankings | October 27, 2022 - 09:37 PM

The next race for a Men’s Basketball National Championship is set to begin shortly as the 2022 Men’s College Basketball schedule is set to tip off.

The landscape of men’s college basketball is loaded with talent as the season approaches despite losing top tier stars to the NBA.

At the front of the list is the Kentucky Wildcats senior star and possible player of the year candidate Oscar Tshiebwe.

Tshiebwe, who elected to return for his senior season, is coming off an impressive performance last season averaging 17.4 points per game to go along with 15.1 rebounds per game.

The Wildcats big man lands at number one on the Top 10 College Basketball Player Rankings Preview list.

As Tshiebwe headlines the list of the top tier Men’s college basketball players to watch for the upcoming season, he is joined by a long list of potential lottery NBA Draft Picks.

One of those other top tier basketball players who also elected to return for his senior season is Drew Timme of the Gonzaga Bulldogs.

As both players elected to pass up the NBA Draft this season, they both will be playing for their draft status next summer.

Other notable names to watch around college basketball include Keyonte George, Nick Smith Jr, Armando Bacot, Marcus Sasser, and Trayce Jackson-Davis. Here is a look at the Top 10 College Basketball Player Rankings Preview:

Honorable Mention

Adama Sanogo

School: UConn Huskies

Just missing the Top 10 College Basketball Player Rankings Preview list is the UConn Huskies junior forward Adama Sanogo.

The former four-star recruit will look to take another big step forward this season after doubling his scoring production while seeing his minutes increase to nearly 30 minutes per game.

Sanogo is coming off a 14.8 points per game to go along with 8.8 rebounds, and nearly two blocked shots per game (1.9) last year.

In addition to that production, Sanogo posted nine double-doubles last season while posting at least 15 in six different games. The Huskies big man is a dynamic rebounder and a solid down low scorer that will be on full display this season.

Keyonte George

School: Baylor Bears

Each year the landscape of college basketball is blessed with a talented freshman class that features multiple players bidding to be the next big time NBA draft prospect.

One of those freshmen is the Baylor Bears guard Keyonte George who is expected to be a key star for the Bears during the upcoming season.

George, who spent his high school career playing for IMG Academy is a five-star recruit and the 9th ranked high school prospect entering his freshman season with the Bears.

The talented guard has the ability to take over a game with a single play while opening up his own ability to score at will.

Top 10 College Basketball Players

10. Dereck Lively II

School: Duke Blue Devils

Rounding out the Top 10 College Basketball Player Rankings Preview list is the Duke Blue Devils income freshman Dereck Lively II.

Lively like fellow freshman Keyonte George is one of the top income freshmen in the country and one player that will be front in center around college basketball during the upcoming season.

Lively II joins the Blue Devils as the number two overall prospect among the freshman class and the number one overall big man.

The Blue Devils big man is a dynamic athlete who can elevate above the rim while playing aggressively on both ends of the floor.

A strong freshman season could have Lively II landing at the top pick during the NBA Draft while potentially playing a huge role in any success the Blue Devils have this season.

9. Trayce Jackson-Davis

School: Indiana Hoosiers

It is very seldom top tier stars such as the Indiana Hoosiers senior forward Trayce Jackson-Davis elects to forgo the NBA Draft to return for their senior season despite his potential in the NBA.

However, when it does it has the potential to not only reward his former team but also the fans of the University he formerly played for. This is the case for the Hoosiers, the Hoosiers faithful as well as for Jackson-Davis.

Jackson-Davis is a tremendous all-around player who is as effective as any forward in the nation. Can the Hoosiers forward take another step forward as he builds his resume for the 2023 NBA Draft?

8. Caleb Love

School: North Carolina Tar Heels

A ton of expectations are set for the North Carolina Tar Heels as they look to take home another NCAA Championship.

One of those Tar Heels looking to lead the team’s charge is Caleb Love as he looks to put together a strong junior season.

Love finished his sophomore season averaging 15.9 points per game to go along with 3.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.

During the Tar Heels run to the 2022 National Championship game Love posted multiple strong performances including a 28-point performance in the team’s key win over the Duke Blue Devils.

7. Jaime Jaquez Jr.

School: UCLA Bruins

As the UCLA Bruins look to contend for a National Championship during the 2022-23 NCAA Men’s Basketball schedule.

Leading the Bruins for the upcoming season is the team’s returning senior guard Jaime Jaquez Jr. Jaquez Jr who was another potential first round NBA draft pick elected to return for another season.

The Bruins guard has the ability to play multiple positions, run the offense, and when shooting effectively is a strong three-point threat.

The new additions of Adem Bona and Amari Bailey should force defenses to focus away from Jaquez Jr allowing him an opportunity to make plays.

6. Armando Bacot

School: North Carolina Tar Heels

With all the expectations set forth for this NCAA Tournament team entering the upcoming 2022-23 NCAA Basketball season, Armando Bacot will be front and center while elevating his draft status for the 2023 NBA Draft.

Bacot is a solid big man who has both great size, and athletic abilities to go along with great arm length to make him a nightmare matchup down low.

The Tar Heels big man finished the season averaging a double-double averaging 16.3 points per game to go along with 13.1 rebounds per game.

During the team’s run to the National Title game, Bacot posted six straight double doubles including a 20-point, 20 rebound performance in the teams Elite 8 win.

5. Nick Smith Jr.

School: Arkansas Razorbacks

Sitting as the Nation's highest high school basketball recruit, all eyes will be on the Arkansas native as he is set to turn around the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Nick Smith Jr lands at number five on the Top 10 College Basketball Player Rankings Preview list. While his high school film showcased his potential, it is only a matter of time before the entire college basketball nation gets to see him first-hand.

Smith Jr. is a combo guard that can take over a game on both ends of the floor. His ability to control the ball, change direction and aggressively attack the rim should allow the Razorbacks freshman to put together a strong first season.

While he may not be around, the Razorbacks should be able to capitalize on Smith Jr during the upcoming season.

4. Hunter Dickinson

School: Michigan Wolverines

One player that has a huge weight on his shoulders entering the upcoming college basketball season is the Michigan Wolverines junior center Hunter Dickinson.

Dickinson is coming off averaging 18.6 points per game to go along with 8.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game last season.

The Wolverines big man played a key role in the team's strong second round win over the Tennessee Volunteers in the NCAA tournament posting 27 points to go along with 11 rebounds.

As the Wolverines welcome in another strong recruiting class, Dickinson will still be counted on to be a threat down low.

3. Marcus Sasser

School: Houston Cougars

Landing at number three on the Top 10 College Basketball Player Rankings Preview list is the Houston Cougars senior guard Marcus Sasser.

Sasser, who elected to forgo the NBA Draft, has his eyes set on a big senior season while looking to lead the Cougars on a deep tournament run.

Entering the upcoming season Sasser lands on the Jerry West award watch list while ranking as one of the nation’s top shooting guards.

Last season Sasser finished the season averaging 17.7 points per game to go along with 2.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists while shooting 43.7 percent from the field and from three-point territory.

2. Drew Timme

School: Gonzaga Bulldogs

With Chet Holmgren gone to the NBA, Drew Timme is the center point of the Gonzaga Bulldogs team and their hopes for another strong season.

Timme, who has averaged at least 18 points per game over the past two seasons is an interesting big man who can not only play down low but also step out behind the three-point line to give the Bulldogs team some flexibility.

In addition, Timme showed off his abilities down the stretch scoring at least 25 points in the team’s final three NCAA Tournament contests including back-to-back double-doubles.

As expectations were set high last year, the Bulldogs team should be solid to make another March Madness run in 2022-23.

1. Oscar Tshiebwe

School: Kentucky Wildcats

In at number one on the Top 10 College Basketball Player Rankings Preview list is the Kentucky Wildcats big man Oscar Tshiebwe.

The Wildcats senior led the nation last season as the best rebounder in the country while averaging 15.1 rebounds per game.

In addition to rebounding, Tshiebwe also averaged 17.4 points per game while shooting 60.6 percent from the field.

Tshiebwe who enters the season as a pre-season All-American, is set to help lead a very talented Wildcats team that is loaded with young talent on what has the potential to be a National Championship caliber season.

If the Wildcats big man can build on last season, he should be one fun player to watch this season.
