Ranking the best NFL Players this 2022-2023 NFL season as Patrick Mahomes is the #1 ranked player for the 2023 New Year

The race for the NFL top honors including the NFL MVP and NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards is in full swing.

As many of the NFL’s top stars look to finish strong, a handful of the league’s top offensive and defensive players will look to solidify their own personal resumes to take home some of the top NFL honors.

In addition, many of these top NFL players landing on the Top 10 NFL Players 2022 rankings December list are also looking to help lead their teams to the 2022 NFL Playoffs.

 

One of those players is the Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro quarterback Patrick Mahomes who is looking to take home another NFL MVP award while also leading his team to another Super Bowl title.

In addition to Mahomes, the list of the Top 10 NFL Players through Week 15 includes three other top tier quarterbacks including Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles, Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, and Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills.

Other notable names on the list include NFL sack leader Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers and interceptions leader C.J. Gardner-Johnson of the Philadelphia Eagles. Here is a look at the Top 10 NFL Players 2022 rankings December list.




Honorable Mention

Tyreek Hill

Team: Miami Dolphins

Position: Wide Receiver
Previous Ranking: #7

Just missing the Top 10 NFL Players 2022 rankings December list is the Miami Dolphins speedy wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Hill held the top spot in receiving yards for most of the season and remained in the Top 5 in receiving yards entering Week 16 of the 2022 NFL schedule.

The Dolphins receiver ranks 2nd among all wide receivers in receiving yards with 1,529, receptions with 109, and targets with 152.

In addition, Hill has pulled in seven touchdown receptions as well as pulling in 24 catches of at least 20 yards.




Myles Garrett

Team: Cleveland Browns

Position: Defensive End
Previous Ranking: Unranked

One of the most explosive players in the NFL on the defensive side of the ball over the past few seasons has been the Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett.

Garrett, who is a menace for opposing quarterbacks has the speed to get to the quarterback and the athleticism to keep up with top tier tight end and running backs out of the backfield.

Entering Week 16 of the NFL schedule 2022 the Browns defensive end ranks 3rd in the NFL with 13. Sacks while also posting four passes defended and 15 tackles for a loss.




Top 10 NFL Players 2022 Rankings

10. Joe Burrow

Team: Cincinnati Bengals

Position: Quarterback
Previous Ranking: Unranked

In at number 10 on the Top 10 NFL Players 2022 rankings December list is the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.

Burrow continues to showcase his ability as one of the NFL’s top quarterbacks while ranking near the top with the likes of Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, and Patrick Mahomes.

The Bengals quarterback currently ranks 4th in the NFL in passing yards with 3,885 through 14 games while also throwing for 31 touchdown passes.

In addition, Burrow ranks 6th in the NFL with 102.5 rating and 2nd in the NFL with a 68.2 completion percentage mark.




9. Derrick Henry

Team: Tennessee Titans

Position: Running Back
Previous Ranking: #3

If it wasn’t for the rest of the struggles of the Tennessee Titans offense, the Titans All-Pro running back Derrick Henry would more than likely sit near the top of the Top 10 NFL Players 2022 rankings December list.

That said despite the injury to Ryan Tannehill and the struggles of Malik Willis, Henry continues to be one of it not the best running backs in the NFL.

Henry enters Week 16 posting back-to-back games with at least 100 rushing yards while bringing his season total to seven games with at least 100 yards rushing.

Overall, Henry ranks 1st in the NFL with 296 rushing attempts, 2nd in rushing yards with 1,303 and 3rd in the NFL with 12 rushing touchdowns.




8. Jalen Hurts

Team: Philadelphia Eagles

Position: Quarterback
Previous Ranking: Unranked

The Philadelphia Eagles may be the hottest team in the NFL and one of the front runners for a trip to the Super Bowl.

Leading that charge is NFL MVP candidate Jalen Hurts who continues to make plays week in and week out while helping his team to a 13-1 overall record.

The Eagles quarterback ranks 10th in passing yards with 3,472, 11th in passing touchdowns with 22, and has thrown just five interceptions.

Meanwhile the speedy quarterback has racked up 747 rushing yards to go along with 13 rushing touchdowns. It is nearly impossible to look past the playmaking abilities of Hurts week in and week out.




7. Matthew Judon

Team: New England Patriots

Position: Linebacker
Previous Ranking: #4

A stud on the defensive side of the ball, the New England Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon ranks among the top of defensive players in the NFL and one of the best pass rushers in the game.

Judon, who began his NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens, is in midst of his second straight season with double digit sacks and has set a career high with 14.5 on the year.

In addition to his 14.5 sacks Judon has posted one forced fumble, one fumble recovery as well as three passes defended.




6. Davante Adams

Team: Las Vegas Raiders

Position: Wide Receiver
Previous Ranking: #5

No matter the team or the quarterback Davante Adams continues to be one of the biggest game changers on the offensive side of the football.

While he has built hit status as one of the NFL’s top wide receivers with Aaron Rodgers at quarterbacks has transitioned smoothly with Derek Carr, his former college teammate under center.

Adams leads all wide receivers with 12 touchdown receptions while pulling in 151 catches for 1,275 receiving yards.




5. C.J. Gardner-Johnson

Philadelphia Eagles

Position: Safety
Previous Ranking: #6

Rounding out the Top 5 on the Top 10 NFL Players 2022 rankings December list is the Philadelphia Eagles stud defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson.

When you are sitting at 13-1 nearly any player on both sides of the ball is worth mentioning as one of the best players in the league.

However, one Eagles star standing out is the team’s safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson who currently leads the NFL with six interceptions.

In Addition to the six interceptions, Gardner-Johnson has posted eight passes defended and 60 total tackles.




4. Justin Jefferson

Team: Minnesota Vikings

Position: Wide Receiver
Previous Ranking: Honorable Mention #2

As a football fan if you have not jumped on the Justin Jefferson bandwagon you are late and need to change directions quickly.

The Minnesota Vikings wide receiver is a game changer who continues to put-up big-time statistics despite opposing defenses looking to slow him down each week.

With the team losing 33-0 last week, Jefferson turned his game into high gear pulling in 12 catches for 123 yards along with one touchdown while helping the Vikings to the largest comeback win in NFL history. Jefferson currently leads the NFL in receptions (111) and receiving yards (1,623).




3. Nick Bosa

Team: San Francisco 49ers

Position: Defensive End
Previous Ranking: #8

Entering the final full week of December the San Francisco 49ers are red hot on both sides of the ball while their defense ranks among the best in the NFL.

Headlining the 49ers defense is stud defensive end and pass rushing specialist Nick Bosa. Bosa enters week 16 ranked 1st in the NFL in sacks with 15.5 while also recording one pass defended, one forced fumble and 41 total tackles. 




2. Josh Allen

Team: Buffalo Bills

Position: Quarterback
Previous Ranking: #2

Coming in at number two on the Top 10 NFL Players 2022 rankings December list is the Buffalo Bills starting quarterback Josh Allen.

Allen, who is battling an arm injury has not slowed down at all whilst helping the Bills back to the top of the AFC East division.

The Bills star quarterback ranks 5th in the NFL with 3,857 passing yards and 3rd in touchdowns with 30 through the first 14 games of the season.

Allen has topped the 400-yard mark twice and the 300 mark four times while also rushing for at least 40 yards in 10 different contests.




1. Patrick Mahomes

Team: Kansas City Chiefs

Position: Quarterback
Previous Ranking: #1

No matter who is at the receiver position the Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro quarterback continues to dominate week in and week out.

As the NFL season rolls into week 16, Patrick Mahomes currently leads the NFL in passing yards (4,496), passing touchdowns (35), and quarterback rating (79.8).

Despite losing the cheetah Tyreek Hill during the off-season, Mahomes hasn’t slowed down while relying on his All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce who currently leads the NFL with 12 touchdown receptions.
