African American boxers have shaped the sport of boxing for over a century, leaving behind a legacy of greatness that continues today. From pioneers like Jack Johnson, who shattered racial barriers by defeating Tommy Burns for the heavyweight title, to legends like Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, and Mike Tyson, the impact of Black boxers on the sport is undeniable. Names like Sugar Ray Leonard, George Foreman, and Joe Frazier have defined eras, engaging in legendary battles against world-class opponents. Today, a new generation of American boxers is carrying the torch, proving that the legacy of greatness is alive and well. From 2024 to 2025, rising stars and established champions continue to dominate, showcasing skill, resilience, and an unbreakable fighting spirit. Here’s a look at the Top 10 Best Black Boxers 2025 Rankings who are making waves in the sport today. But first, here are some honorable mentions

10. Charles Conwell

Starting off our list of top African American Boxers of the year, we have Undefeated rising talent Charles Conwell. 

He started the year with a TKO win over Nathaniel Gallimore and followed up with two back-to-back knockouts against Khiary Gray and Gerardo Luis Vergara.

With three impressive wins in the last year, he has made his place in the top 10 at super welterweight and should expect some big fights in 2025. 

9. Brian Norman Jr.

  • WBO Welterweight World Champion

Next up, let’s talk about one of the most exciting rising talents at welterweight. We’re talking about Brian Norman Jr.

He fought twice in the last year and won the WBO interim welterweight title as well. His first fight ended in a no-contest after his opponent got cut because of an accidental clash of heads, however, he knocked out Giovani Santillan in his second fight to end the year in style, with a world title on his shoulder. 

Brian Norman Jr is scheduled to face Derrick Cuevas next on Saturday, March 29th, 2025.

8. Troy Isley

Troy Isley is an exceptional and young rising talent in the middleweight division, who has had one of the best years of his career. 

He fought three times over the last year. His first fight was a TKO win against Marcos Hernandez, In his second fight, he won the WBO NABO Middleweight Title after defeating Javier Martinez, and in his most recent fight, he defended his title against Tyler Howard. 

As of now, he doesn’t have a fight scheduled, but he is ranked number 7 in the division by The Ring, and he can expect some big fights in the future. 

7. Brandon Glanton

Brandon Glanton is another stand-out African American boxer, who has made it into the top ten of their division in the last year, with multiple impressive wins at cruiserweight. 

He fought twice in the last year, winning the WBO Intercontinental Cruiserweight title after defeating Emil Markic in his first fight, and following it up with another win over Aleksei Egorov. 

His impressive wins have earned him a chance to fight former WBO cruiserweight champion Chris Billam-Smith on April 25th, 2025. 

6. Gervonta Davis

Title(s):

  • WBA Lightweight World Champion

Next up, we have one of the biggest African American stars in boxing right now. We’re talking about the Undefeated WBA Lightweight champion Gervonta Davis.

Davis only had one fight in the last year, however, it was a big one, as he defeated Frank Martin to defend his title for the fifth time, and won the fight with an impressive 8th-round knockout, taking his record to 30-0. 

Now, Davis has a big fight ahead of him. He is scheduled to fight Lamont Roach Jr. on March 1st, 2025. 

5. O’Shaquie Foster

  • WBC Super Featherweight World Champion

Next up, we have the WBC super featherweight world champion, O’Shaquie Foster who has had quite an active year.

He fought three times last year, kicking off the year with a hard-fought victory over Abraham Nova. He then faced Robson Conceição in back-to-back battles, losing a razor-thin split decision in their first encounter. However, in the rematch, he bounced back, reclaiming his title, and ending the year with a win. 

His next fight has not been announced yet. 

4. Jaron Ennis

Title(s):

  • IBF Welterweight World Champion

Jaron Ennis has become one of the top African American boxers in the world right now. He has had an impressive year. 

After winning the IBF interim welterweight title last year, Ennis was promoted to full champion to start off the year. He defended the title twice. Once against David Avanesyan, and in his second fight against Karen Chukhadzhian, solidifying himself as the champ. 

For his next fight, Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis is set to face Eimantas Stanionis on Saturday, April 12th, 2025.

3. Bruce Carrington

You can’t talk about the top African American boxers of last year without mentioning Bruce Carrington. 

The rising featherweight star had an incredibly active year, stepping into the ring four times and emerging victorious in each bout. He also won multiple regional and secondary titles this year, including the NABF, WBO Inter-Continental, and WBC Silver featherweight titles. 

Carrington is now ranked as the number 1 contender in the division by the WBC, WBA and WBO. Although he doesn’t have a fight scheduled as of now, he can expect some big fights, and perhaps even a title shot in 2025. 

2. Keyshawn Davis

Next up, we have Keyshawn Davis, who has had an exceptional year, winning three straight fights in a row, and grabbing multiple regional titles, including the IBF Inter-Continental and  IBF–USBA Lightweight titles. 

He started the year by knocking out José Pedraa, and followed it up with a unanimous decision win over Miguel Madueno. He also knocked out Gustavo Daniel Lemos in November.

For his next fight, Davis is headed to New York, where he will fight Denys Berinchyk on Friday, February 14th at the Madison Square Garden. 

1. Terrence Crawford

  • WBA Super Welterweight World Champion
  • WBO Super Welterweight Interim Champion

On the top of our list, we have one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world, Terrence Crawford. 

Though Crawford only fought once in the last year, it was one of the biggest fights of his career. After dominating at welterweight as the undisputed champion, he moved up to light middleweight in 2024 and became a four-division world champion. 

He defeated Israil Madrimov in August and won the WBA and vacant WBO interim light middleweight titles. Crawford has been linked to many big names, including the likes of Canelo Alvarez, but for now ,there is no official announcement about his next opponent.
