The Best Amateur Boxers of 2023

This year’s world championships at Tashkent, Uzbekistan have introduced several breakout amateur boxers in the boxing scene. Nurbek Oralbay from Kazakhstan, Muslim Gadzhimagomedov from Russia, and Ruslan Abdullaev deserving an honorable mention in the amateur boxing rankings.

Ruslan Abdullaev

Ruslan Abdullaev is from Uzbekistan with an amateur record of 27 wins and 3 losses. He is the 2023 IBA World Championship Tournament winner.

Top 10 Amateur Boxers

10. Sanzhar Tashkenbay

Country: Kazakhstan

Starting off the list, we have a young Kazakh amateur boxer, Sanzhar Tashkenbay who has an Amateur record of 30 wins and 3 losses. 2023 has been a big year for the 20-year-old boxer, who won gold in the 2023 Tashkent boxing world championships, competing in the Minimumweight division. Moreover, he also won gold in the 2021 youth world championships and last year’s Asian Championships. 

9. Aslanbek Shymbergenov

Country: Kazakhstan

Aslanbek Shymbergenov is a light-middleweight boxer from Kazakhstan who has a record of 93 wins and 19 losses. He competed in this year’s boxing world championships, winning a gold medal in the light middleweight division. He also has a gold medal in last year’s Asian championships. 

8. Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev

Country: Uzbekistan

Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev is a young amateur boxer from Uzbekistan, and he has a record of 35 wins and 8 losses. Earlier this year, Muydinkhujaev won his first world championship gold medal, competing as a welterweight in the 2023 Tashkent IBA world championships. Last year, in 2022, he also won a bronze medal at the Asian Championships. 

7. Makhmud Sabyrkhan

Country: Kazakhstan

Makhmud Sabyrkhan is a boxer from Kazakhstan, with an amateur record of 55 wins and 7 losses. 2023 has been an excellent year for Sabyrkhan’s amateur boxing career.

He competed in the 2023 Tashkent IBA world championships as a bantamweight earlier this year and won a gold medal in his division. Sabyrkhan has also won silver medals in the 2021 Belgrade world championships and the 2022 Asian Championships. 

6. Nurbek Oralbay

Country: Kazakhstan

Nurbek Oralbay is a boxer from Kazakhstan, and he has an Amateur record of 48 wins and 13 losses. 2023 has been a great year for Oralbay’s boxing career, as he won a gold medal in the 2023 boxing championships held in Tashkent. He also won a gold medal in the 2018 Budapest Youth Boxing world championships. 

5. Hasanboy Dusmatov

Country: Uzbekistan

Next up in the Top 10 Amateur Boxers 2023 Rankings, we have Hasanboy Dusmatov from Uzbekistan, who is an amateur boxer with a record of 114 wins and 17 losses. Dusmatov has had 5 fights as a professional but still competes as an amateur as well.

In fact, he won gold in this year’s IBA world championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Dusmatov’s boxing accolades also include a gold medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics, a Silver Medal in the 2017 world championships, and three gold medals in the Asian Championships. 

4. Yoenlis Hernández

Country: Cuba

Yoenlis Hernández is a Cuban boxer, with an Amateur boxing record of 58 wins and 12 losses. He has had an impressive Amateur career and has won gold medals at the boxing world championships twice.

Earlier this year, he won a gold medal competing as a middleweight in the 2023 Tashkent boxing world championships, and previously he also won gold in the 2021 world championships held in Belgrade, Serbia. 

3. Abdumalik Khalokov

Country: Uzbekistan

Abdumalik Khalokov is an Amateur boxer from Uzbekistan, and he has an amateur record of 67 wins and 10 losses.  Earlier this year, he competed as a featherweight in the 2023 IBA world championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, winning the gold medal.

Khalokov’s impressive record also includes gold medals in the 2018 Youth Boxing World Championships and the 2022 Asian Championships, as well as a silver medal in the 2021 Boxing World Championships held in Belgrade, Serbia. 

2. Sofiane Oumiha

Country: France

Sofiane Oumiha is a boxer from France, and he has an amateur boxers record of 122 wins and 21 losses with 1 draw. Oumiha has won the boxing world championship three times, competing as a lightweight.

In fact, he won his third gold medal this year in the 2023 Tashkent boxing world championships. To make this year even better, he also won a  gold medal in the 2023 European Games. His accolades as a boxer also include an Olympic Silver Medal won in the 2016 Olympics, 

1. Muslim Gadzhimagomedov

Country: Russia

Muslim Gadzhimagomedov is a boxer from Russia who has an amateur record of 97 wins and 7 losses. He has won gold in the boxing world championships twice and won a silver medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

This year, he won a gold medal in the 2023 Tashkent IBA world championships competing at heavyweight. Gadzhimagomedov also has 1 professional fight but still competes as an amateur boxer.
