Updating the Light Heavyweight Boxing Rankings after Dmitry Bivol defeated Malik Zinad to remain WBA Light Heavyweight Champion

The Light Heavyweight Undisputed Champion will be Determined Soon

After a pivotal fight between Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev, that would have determined the undisputed champ, and the ultimate king of the light heavyweights fell out last month, Bivol ended up fighting Malik Zinad. So, with that in mind, here are our updated light heavyweight rankings, but first, here is a list of some fighters who don’t make the cut, but still deserve an honorable mention.

Light Heavyweight is a weight class of boxers that consists of boxers weighing between 165 pounds (75 kg) and to a maximum of 178 pounds (81 kg).

Top 10 Light Heavyweight Boxers – World Rankings

10. Willy Hutchinson

Willy Hutchinson is a young Scottish fighter, with 18 Professional wins and only 1 loss on his boxing record.

Hutchinson is the current WBC Silver light-heavyweight champion, and has previously held multiple regional titles including the WBC International light-heavyweight title. He is coming off an excellent Unanimous Decision win over Craig Richards, which has propelled him up to the top 10 at light heavyweight.

9. Albert Ramírez

At number 9, we have Albert Ramírez, an undefeated Venezuelan boxer with 18 wins on his resume. 

He has won multiple regional titles, including the WBA Continental Americas and the WBA Fedelatin light heavyweight title. He recently moved up to cruiserweight as well and won the WBO Global Cruiserweight title. 

In his most recent fight, he defeated Artur Ziyatdinov via Unanimous Decision and there is no official announcement about his next fight.

8. Malik Zinad

Next up, we have Malik Zinad, a professional boxer from Libya who has 22 wins on his record with only 1 loss. 

Zinad has held multiple regional titles at light heavyweight including the  WBC Mediterranean and IBO Intercontinental light heavyweight titles. 

In his most recent fight, he also challenged Dmitry Bivol for his WBA (Super) and IBO light-heavyweight titles, but unfortunately he came up short, losing via TKO in the 6th round.

7. Dan Azeez

Next up, we have Dan Azeez from Britain, a professional boxer with 20 wins and 1 loss on his record. 

Dan Azeez has held multiple regional titles, including the British, European, and Commonwealth light-heavyweight titles. In fact, he lost the British Light heavyweight title in his most recent fight against Joshua Buatsi. 

For his next fight, Dan Azeez will face off against Hrvoje Sep on June 15th.

6. Oleksandr Gvozdyk

Oleksandr Gvozdyk is a Ukrainian professional boxer with a professional record of 20 wins and 1 loss.

He is the former WBC light-heavyweight champion and has held multiple regional titles as well. He also challenged Artur Beterbiev for the IBF title but came up short. 

Gvozdyk is currently on a 3 fight-winning streak, and in his most recent fight, he defeated Isaac Rodrigues via KO. For his next fight Oleksandr Gvozdyk will face former WBC super middleweight champion David Benavidez on June 15th 2024.

5. Callum Smith

Callum Smith is a British professional boxer, with a record of 29 wins and 2 losses, with 21 knockouts. 

Callam Smith competed at super middleweight for most of his career and became the unified WBA and the ring super middleweight champion. However, after defending the titles twice, he lost them to Canello Alvarez. 

In his last fight, he faced Artur Beterbiev for the Unified WBC, WBO, and IBF light heavyweight titles. However, despite his best efforts, he lost via TKO in the 7th round. There is no announcement about his next fight.

4. Anthony Yarde

Anthony Yarde is a British boxer, with a professional record of 25 wins and 3 losses. 

He is the former WBO Inter-Continental Light heavyweight champion and challenged Sergey Kovalev for the WBO light heavyweight championship as well. He also won the Commonwealth and WBO Inter-Continental light-heavyweight titles recently. 

In his last fight, he defeated Marko Nikolic by 3rd-round knockout. Though there is no official announcement about his next fight, The WBO has ordered a fight between Joshua Buatsi and Anthony Yarde for its interim belt.

3. Joshua Buatsi

Joshua Buatsi is a British professional boxer who was born in Ghana. He is undefeated as a pro, and has 17 wins on his record.

He is the current British and Commonwealth Light heavyweight champion, and has previously held the WBA International light-heavyweight title as well. Buatsi is also an Olympic Bronze medalist.  

In his most recent fight, he defeated Dan Azeez via Unanimous Decision, and became a two time British Light heavyweight champion.

2. Dmitry Bivol

  • WBA Light Heavyweight Super Champion

Dmitry Bivol is a professional boxer from Russia, and he has an undefeated record of 23-0. 

He is  the current unified WBA (super) and IBO light heavyweight champion of the world. In 2016, he won the WBA interim light-heavyweight title and defended it twice before being promoted to the main title. Bivol continued to defend the WBA light-heavyweight championship 11 times.. 

Bivol is coming off a dominant 6th round KO win over Malik Zinad. He was originally supposed to fight Artur Beterbiev for the undisputed title, but after Beterbiev pulled out because of an injury, Zinad took his place. Dimitry Bivol will now face Beterbiev on October 12th, 2024 with all four major world titles on the line.

  • IBF Light Heavyweight World Champion
  • WBO Light Heavyweight World Champion

Artur Beterbiev is a Russian-Canadian Boxer, with a record of 20 wins and no losses. He is the current unified WBC, WBO, and IBF light heavyweight champion of the world.

Beterbiev won the vacant IBF light-heavyweight title in 2017 and continued to defend it twice, before winning the WBC light-heavyweight title in 2019. He also defeated Joe Smith Jr via TKO in the second round, and became the WBO champion as well. 

Beterbiev took on Anthony Yarde in an exciting fight. As Yarde connected more, Beterbiev delivered heavy shots and was able to knock down Yarde in the 8th. When he got back up Beterbiev delivered more shots that forced Yarde’s corner to stop the fight.

In his most recent fight, he defended his title against Callum Smith. He dominated the fight from start to finish, ending it with a TKO in the 7th round to maintain his 100% finishing rate. As of now, there is no announcement about his next fight.
