Ranking the Top 10 NFL Rookies of the 2023-2024 NFL Season as Bryce Young leads the way in the NFL Preseason

NFL Rookies to Watch 2023

The hot days of summer continue to march on as the 32 NFL teams and NFL players continue to prepare for the upcoming 2023 NFL season. One group of those NFL players putting in hard work this summer has been the 2023 NFL Draft Class as well as the 2023 NFL undrafted rookie group that joined on with teams over the past few months. As you look at the group of rookies landing on the Top 10 NFL Rookies Preview 2023-24 rankings list, the excitement level for the upcoming NFL season begins to build for fans all around the NFL.

Among the top NFL rookies in 2023 is a tandem of talented quarterbacks who are all expected to contribute to their respective teams this season. Three of those talented rookie quarterbacks to watch are Anthony Richardson of the Indianapolis Colts, Bryce Young of the Carolina Panthers, and C.J. Stroud of the Houston Texans.

In addition to the talented rookie quarterbacks, other top 2023 NFL Rookies include running back Bijan Robinson of the Atlanta Falcons, linebacker Will Anderson Jr of the Houston Texans, wide receiver Jaxon Smith Njigba of the Seattle Seahawks, and defensive tackle Jalen Carter of the Philadelphia Eagles. Here is a look at the Top 10 NFL Rookies Preview 2023-2024 rankings list.

Honorable Mention

Emmanuel Forbes

Team: Washington Commanders

Position: Cornerback

Landing just outside of the Top 10 NFL Rookies Preview 2023-2024 rankings is the Washington Commanders rookie cornerback Emmanuel Forbes. The former Mississippi State Bulldogs star will have a difficult role as a rookie. He’ll be sliding in at one of the most difficult positions in the NFL in a league that is pass happy.

However, as we saw last season shut down corners can come in the first round of the NFL draft and make an immediate impact. Forbes has solid size at six foot one inches. He also has speed while posting a 4.35 forty yard dash time. In addition, the Commanders cornerback has shown a knack for the football. He posted 14 interceptions over his three seasons within the SEC including six last season. 

Quentin Johnston

Team: Los Angeles Chargers

Position: Wide Receiver

As the evolution of the passing game and the type of offenses NFL teams run, the wide receiver position continues to be a position of need for nearly every team in the league. While the 2023 NFL Draft class of wide receivers did not receive the hype as previous classes, the overall class is strong including the former TCU Horned Frogs wide receiver Quentin Johnston.

Johnston who is coming off back to back First-Team All-Big 12 selections will fit in with a Los Angeles Chargers team that has one of the top young passing quarterbacks in the league in Josh Herbert. The former Horned Frogs wide receiver will also have a strong veteran receiving corps surrounding him including Keenan Allen and Mike Williams to help mentor him during a potential big rookie season in the NFL.

Top 10 NFL Rookies

10. Jahmyr Gibbs

Team: Detroit Lions

Position: Running Back

In at #10 on Top 10 NFL Rookies 2023-2024 rankings is the former Alabama Crimson Tide running back Jahmyr Gibbs. Gibbs enters his rookie season as one of the premier running backs from the 2023 NFL Draft class including Bijan Robinson of the Atlanta Falcons.

The former Crimson Tide star has breakaway speed to go along with his elusiveness to find the hole while also getting to the outside on opposing defenses. In addition, Gibbs showcased strong hands and the ability to make plays in the passing game that will help him produce as a rookie during the 2023 NFL schedule.

9. Tyree Wilson

Team: Las Vegas Raiders

Position: Defensive End

While much of the love on the incoming NFL Draft class will be handed out to the quarterback class and other members on the offensive side of the ball, many of the top defensive players are well worth mentioning of top rookies to watch in the NFL in 2023. One of those rookies is the Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Tyree Wilson. He should provide the Raiders with another explosive option who can get to the quarterback.

Wilson will also be able to take advantage of playing opposite of Maxx Crosby allowing him to have single coverage blocking schemes and a chance to make a big play on defense on each play.

8. Anthony Richardson

Team: Indianapolis Colts

Position: Quarterback

The 2023 NFL Quarterback Draft Class has the potential to make history with each of the top three best rookies having a strong opportunity to end the season as their respective teams starting quarterback.

One of those three quarterbacks is the Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson who has all the tangibles to be a great NFL quarterback including the ability to make plays with both his arm and his legs on every offensive possession.

Richardson will also enter his rookie season with one of the top playmakers in the NFL in Jonathan Taylor. The former Florida Gators quarterback has tremendous size at six foot four inches while also have a big arm and strong legs.

While Richardson completed just 53.8 percent of his passes last season leaving room to develop, his other tangibles make him one of the top NFL rookies to watch in 2023.

7. Devon Witherspoon

Team: Seattle Seahawks

Position: Cornerback

One defensive team to watch out for during the 2023 NFL season is the Seattle Seahawks who are building another high caliber defense. This includes a talented secondary that features 2022 5th Round NFL Draft Pick Riq Woolen who put together a strong rookie season as well as veteran safety Jamal Adams.

Another player expected to make a big time contribution for the Seahawks in 2023 is the former Illinois Fightin Illini Devon Witherspoon. Witherspoon is as aggressive and talented as any rookie cornerback entering the NFL in 2023 while showcasing his ability to shut down opposing wide receivers last season.

Witherspoon is coming off posting 17 passes defended and three interceptions last season. In addition, the talented cornerback is strong at the line of scrimmage while helping to slow down opposing running backs.

6. Bijan Robinson

Team: Atlanta Falcons

Position: Running Back

Possibly the most explosive player within the 2023 NFL Draft Class, Bijan Robinson is set to showcase his game changing abilities as a rookie for the Atlanta Falcons this season.

Robinson, who is coming off back to back seasons with at least 1,127 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns has the speed, elusiveness, and agility to turn a busted play in the back field into a big offensive play.

In addition, Robinson showcased in limited opportunities his potential as a strong versatile back. He can play in the passing game while posting eight touchdown receptions over his three seasons with the Texas Longhorns. Robinson will join a crowded backfield that features Tyler Aligeier and Cordarrelle Patterson; however, each will have their opportunities to shine in 2023.

5. Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Team: Seattle Seahawks

Position: Wide Receiver

Rounding out the Top 5 on the Top 10 NFL Rookies list is the Seattle Seahawks rookie WR Jaxon Smith-Njiba. Despite missing all but three games last season, the former Ohio State Buckeyes star receiver is a playmaker who can match up against any top tier cornerback while making him miss.

The Buckeyes wide receiver also showcased his ability to handle the spotlight after posting 347 receiving yards in the teams Rose Bowl win just two seasons ago. Add in the fact Smith-Njigba will be joining D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett added value to his potential to take home the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. 

4. Jalen Carter

Team: Philadelphia Eagles

Position: Defensive Tackle

During the 2022 NCAA Football season Jalen Carter projected and looked like a true first overall pick for the 2023 NFL Draft. After off the field issues caused concern, Carter fell to the Eagles while delivering the team the potential steal of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Carter is a big physical defensive tackle who can stop the run. He opens up holes for his linebackers to make plays and also get to the quarterback. In addition, the former Georgia Bulldogs defensive tackle brings a winning background to an Eagles team looking to take home the Super Bowl Trophy during the 2023 NFL season.

3. Will Anderson Jr.

Team: Houston Texans

Position: Defensive End

At #3 is the first round pick and defensive player who has the potential to take home the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. That player is the former Alabama Crimson Tide star linebacker Will Anderson Jr.

Anderson Jr. is a physical specimen on the defensive side of the ball. He is a player who opposing offenses will struggle to slow down while also figuring out how to defend.

Anderson will make the slide to defensive end for the Houston Texans in 2023. He possess the physical tools including speed to get to opposing quarterbacks. The former Crimson Tide star posted 17.5 sacks just two seasons ago and 10 sacks last season. 

2. C.J. Stroud

Team: Houston Texans

Position: Quarterback

When it comes to the top playmakers in the 2023 NFL Draft it ultimately came down to the top two playmaking quarterbacks in college football. In the end, C.J. Stroud lands at number two among the 10 Best NFL Rookies in 2023.

C.J. is a playmaking quarterback who will be the face of the Texans for years to come while possessing all the tangibles to make him a great quarterback. Stroud has tremendous playmaking abilities with his legs and a big arm to make all of his throws.

While Stroud won’t have a top tier receiving corps in 2023, he should make the entire Texans offense better from the first time he steps on the football field.

1. Bryce Young

Team: Carolina Panthers

Position: Quarterback

In at number one is the former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young. The former Heisman Trophy winner comes from a winning college football program. He also showcased on the largest stage in football that he can play with the best players in the World.

In his second season with the Crimson Tide Young threw for 4,872 yards. He also threw for 47 touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns. Despite battling injuries, Young managed to pass for 3,328 yards last season with 32 touchdowns. While improving his touchdown to interception ratio he also completed 64.5 percent of his passes.

Like Stroud, Young will be working with a very young receiving corps but still has the potential to put together a big rookie season in 2023.
