Top 10 College Basketball Freshman 2023 Final Four Rankings
Ranking the top college basketball freshmen in the 2022-2023 Men’s NCAA College Basketball Season as Brandon Miller leads the way

The landscape of college basketball evolves from season to season as star studded recruiting classes led by top tier freshman enter while other top stars exit for the NBA Draft.
That is the case for the 2022-23 NCAA Basketball season as a long list of talented five-star and four-star players entered college basketball including Brandon Miller who lands at the top of the Top 10 NCAA Men’s Basketball Freshman 2023 rankings list. Miller is just one of the many talented freshmen to suit up this past season while putting together strong freshman seasons.
As Miller lands atop the list of the top freshman, other top freshmen joining him include Brice Sensabaugh of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Kyle Filipowski of the Duke Blue Devils.
Gradey Dick of the Kansas Jayhawks and Gradey Jackson II of South Carolina Gamecocks. While the freshman shined this year including during the 2023 Men’s National Championship Tournament, the downside is many of these top freshmen will skip their college career to make a jump at the 2023 NBA Draft.
Nonetheless, here is a look at the best freshman to land on the Top 10 NCAA Men’s Basketball Freshman 2023 rankings list:
Honorable Mention
Nick Smith Jr.
School: Arkansas Razorbacks
Previous Ranking: #8
Landing just outside of the Top 10 on the Top 10 NCAA Men’s Basketball Freshman 2023 rankings list is the Arkansas Razorbacks freshman Nick Smith Jr.
The Razorbacks freshman was one of two talented freshmen to arrive on campus for the 2022-23 NCAA Basketball season with Anthony Black arriving as well.
The Arkansas native ranked among the top income freshman this season and didn’t disappoint while posting a strong first season. Smith Jr. wrapped up the season appearing in 17 games after battling injuries while finishing with 12.5 points per game to go along with 1.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
Cason Wallace
School: Kentucky Wildcats
Previous Ranking: #10
Year in and year out the Kentucky Wildcats land some of the best players in the country and the same can be said for this year’s freshman Cason Wallace.
Wallace, who recently announced he will enter the 2023 NBA Draft, wrapped up his first season averaging 11.7 points per game to go along with 3.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.
Wallace, who is from Dallas, Texas shined in the team’s difficult loss to the Kansas State Wildcats scoring 21 points to go along with nine rebounds and four assists.
Top 10 Best Freshman Basketball Players
10. Cam Whitmore
School: Villanova Wildcats
Previous Ranking: Honorable Mention #1
Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 NCAA Men’s Basketball Freshman 2023 rankings list is the Villanova Wildcats talented freshman Cam Whitmore.
Whitmore, who was a five-star recruit from Odenton, Maryland was ranked 13th among all incoming freshmen and the number one overall recruit from Maryland.
Whitmore wrapped up his freshman season averaging 12.5 points per game to go along with 5.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.
9. Jalen Hood-Schifino
School: Indiana Hoosiers
Previous Ranking: Unranked
One freshman who took center stage among the top freshmen in all of college basketball this season was the Indiana Hoosiers guard Jalen Hood-Schifino.
Hood-Schifino showed progress all season long while showing his potential at various points during the NCAA Men’s Basketball season.
This includes in the team’s second round loss to the Miami Hurricanes during the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament. In the team’s loss Hood-Schifino posted 19 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot.
8. Anthony Black
School: Arkansas Razorbacks
Previous Ranking: #3
The Arkansas Razorbacks put together a stellar incoming freshman class for this past season one that featured both Nick Smith Jr and Anthony Black.
While it is uncertain if both Black and Smith Jr will return or not, one thing is for certain: if they return for the 2023-24 NCAA Basketball season, the Razorbacks will be a difficult team to beat.
Black wrapped up his freshman season averaging 12.8 points per game to go along with 5.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. On the year Black topped the 20-point mark in five different games including a 20-point performance during the teams Sweet 16 loss to the UConn Huskies.
7. Jett Howard
School: Michigan Wolverines
Previous Ranking: #7
The son of Michigan Wolverines head coach Juwan Howard entered the school as one of the top ranked incoming freshmen in the country. As Jett Howard elected to join the Wolverines, his play on the court showcased his talent level while finishing the season averaging 14.2 points per game to go along with 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists.
His play on the floor opened up the door for Howard to enter the 2023 NBA Draft, a decision that will leave the Wolverines looking for answers entering the 2023-24 NCAA Basketball season.
6. Keyonte George
School: Baylor Bears
Previous Ranking: #5
One and done is a common phrase related to top tier freshman who play in just one college basketball season before electing to join the NBA.
That is the case for the Baylor Bears star freshman from Lewisville, Texas Keyonte George. George, who averaged 15.3 points per game as a freshman, has size, speed and athleticism that can play the guard position at the NBA level while having great court vision. The Bears freshman guard wrapped up the season by adding 4.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals per game.
5. Gradey Dick
School: Kansas Jayhawks
Previous Ranking: #6
Rounding out the Top 5 on the Top 10 NCAA Men’s Basketball Freshman 2023 rankings list is another one and done freshman Gradey Dick.
Dick who is from Wichita, Kansas, ranked as the 22nd best overall freshman recruit this past season while joining the Kansas Jayhawks as a five-star recruit.
The Jayhawks freshman didn’t disappoint finishing his freshman season averaging 14.1 points per game to go along with 5.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
Dick who has the size and speed, also has a strong shot that was demonstrated at points across the entire 2022-23 NCAA Basketball schedule.
4. Gregory “GG” Jackson II
School: South Carolina Gamecocks
Previous Ranking: #4
Gregory Jackson II arrived on campus with the South Carolina Gamecocks ranked among the best incoming freshmen in the country. Jackson II who was the top overall power forward recruit and the top recruit from South Carolina elected to stay home while taking his talents to the Gamecocks.
The Gamecocks freshman didn’t disappoint finishing his first season averaging 15.4 points per game to go along with 5.9 rebounds.
Over his final five games of the season, Jackson II posted at least 19 points in three of those games while also adding at least five rebounds in three games.
3. Brice Sensabaugh
School: Ohio State Buckeyes
Previous Ranking: #Honorable Mention #2
One of the top freshmen during the 2022-23 basketball season was the Ohio State Buckeyes freshman forward who was recruited as a four-star recruit.
Despite being just a four-star recruit Brice Sensabaugh ranked among the leaders in scoring among all freshmen while also being solid on both ends of the floor at times for the Buckeyes this season.
The Orlando, Florida forward finished off his potential only college season averaging 16.3 points per game to go along with 5.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
2. Kyle Filipowski
School: Duke Blue Devils
Previous Ranking: #2
If it wasn’t for the season Brandon Miller put together, Kyle Filipowski could have easily slotted in as the top performing freshman this past season.
Filipowski, who was one of three top tier recruits landed by the Duke Blue Devils put together the best numbers of the three while helping the Blue Devils rank among the best teams in the ACC.
The seven-foot center from New York capped off his freshman season averaging 15.1 points per game to go along with 8.9 rebounds and 1.6 assist while shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 28.2 percent from behind the three-point line.
1. Brandon Miller
School: Alabama Crimson Tide
Previous Ranking: #1
A potential top five NBA Lottery Draft Pick during the 2023 NBA Draft, Brandon Miller was as good as any freshman in the country as well as one of the best overall players in all of men’s basketball.
Miller posted nine double doubles to go along with 14 games with at least 20 points including four games with more than 30 points.
The Alabama Crimson Tide freshman finished his only season in college basketball averaging 18.8 points per game to go along with 8.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and nearly a blocked shot and steal per game this past season.
