The new 2025 calendar year has arrived and the excitement around the upcoming 2025 MLB schedule continues to grow. While the current off-season has a few weeks left before pitchers and catchers reports, the list of top tier free agents continues to reduce as players look to find new homes and teams look to solidify rosters heading into training camp. One of those top free agents that found a new home was Juan Soto who ranked as the top free agent in all of baseball on the Top 10 MLB Free Agents 2025 Rankings list.

Soto, who was traded to the New York Yankees and helped the team reach the World Series during the 2024 MLB season, elected to jump back over to the National League while crossing over town to the New York Mets.

The former Washington Nationals, New York Yankees, and San Diego Padres All-Star right fielder arrives after batting .288 with 41 home runs and driving in 109 runs.

Joining Soto among the best free agents in Major League Baseball is first baseman Pete Alonso, shortstop Willy Adames as well as starting pitchers Corbin Burnes and Max Fried.

Honorable Mention

Jurickson Profar

Position: Left Fielder

Free Agent Status: Free Agent

Just missing the Top 10 MLB Free Agents 2025 Rankings list is the former San Diego Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar. Despite coming off his best season in the Majors, the 32-year-old left fielder has yet to land a new deal despite ranking among the best options on the free agent market entering the off-season.

Profar who was once a top tier prospect with the Texas Rangers posted 29 doubles to go along with 24 home runs and 85 runs batted in last season while also posting 76 walks and a .280 batting average.

The strong season set career highs in a long list of statistics including home runs, runs batted in, walks as well as runs scored (94), hits (158), and batting average (.280). 

Alex Bregman

Position: Third Baseman

Free Agent Status: Free Agent

Another talented free agent that remains on the open market as the calendar year rolls into 2025 is the former Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman.

Bregman who made his debut back during the 2016 MLB season with the Astros has been a household name within the organization while also being a key member of the 2017 and 2022 World Series Championship rosters.

In addition to being a two-time World Series Champion, Bregman has also made two AL All-Star teams while also winning one Gold Glove Award that came last season.

The former Astros third baseman is coming off batting .260 with 30 doubles, 26 home runs while driving in 75 runs across 145 games played last season.

Top 10 MLB Teams 2025 Rankings

10. Christian Walker

Position: First Baseman

Free Agent Status: Houston Astros (3 year/$60 million)

Sliding in at number 10 on the Top 10 MLB Free Agents 2025 Rankings is the former Arizona Diamondbacks and current Houston Astros first baseman Christian Walker.

Walker, who signed a three-year deal worth 60 million dollars with the Astros entered free agency ranked among the best overall options at first base while being coveted by a long list of teams around baseball.

Christian Walker who will enter the 2025 MLB season at the age of 34 is coming off his third straight season with at least 26 home runs while also driving in at least 84 runs in each of the previous two seasons.

In addition to a strong bat, Walker brings a gold glove caliber glove to the Astros after winning the Gold Glove Award in each of the previous three seasons with the Diamondbacks. 

9. Jeff Hoffman

Position: Relief Pitcher

Free Agent Status: Philadelphia Phillies (1 year/$2.2 million)

Another talented relief pitcher who entered the off-season as one of the top overall free agents was Jeff Hoffman who elected to remain with the Philadelphia Phillies on a one-year deal worth just over two million dollars.

While the Phillies landed Hoffman on a bargain deal, it is hard to look past the success he had last season in Philadelphia including pitching to a .96 WHIP while striking out 89 batters over 66.1 innings of work.

Over the past two seasons both the Phillies Hoffman has been an anchor out of the bullpen posting earned run averages of 2.41 in 2023 and 2.17 in 2024. 

8. Tanner Scott

Position: Closer 

Free Agent Status: Free Agent

As you look around the free agent market it is hard to look past a more talented back of the end relief pitcher than the former San Diego Padres closer Tanner Scott. Add in the value of top tier bullpen the value Scott delivers ranks among the best overall free agents this off-season.

Last season the top six MLB teams among bullpen earned run averages all earned a trip to the MLB playoffs including both the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees who faced off in the World Series.

Scott entered free agency coming off 22 saves between the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres however his opportunities were limited after joining the Padres late in the season.

In addition to 22 saves, Scott posted a 1.75 earned run average and 1.13 WHIP while striking out 84 batters over 72 innings of work. The hard throwing left-handed closer still remains one of the top free agents on the open market as pitchers and catchers get set to report in early February.

7. Anthony Santander

Position: Right Fielder/Designated Hitter 

Free Agent Status: Free Agent

When it comes to top-of-the-line power bats on the market, Anthony Santander lands among the best available after posting a career year during the 2024 Major League Baseball season.

The 31-year-old switch hitter posted a career high 44 home runs to go along with 102 runs batted in while also scoring a career high 91 runs while anchoring down one of the top offenses in all of baseball the Baltimore Orioles.

Santander who has hit 105 home runs over the past three seasons was expected to be a hot commodity however the slow market has him waiting to land a new long-term deal.

Since making his debut during the 2017 MLB season, Santander has four seasons with at least 20 home runs while racking up 155 home runs over that stretch with all but one of those coming since the 2019 MLB season.

6. Blake Snell

Position: Starting Pitcher

Free Agent Status: Los Angeles Dodgers (5 years/$182 million)

The rich continue to get richer around Major League Baseball as the Los Angeles Dodgers found a way to land one of the top overall starting pitchers on the market while luring him from two former National League West rotations.

Blake Snell, who was also a top tier free agent option last season, elected to opt out of the two-year $62 million dollar deal with San Francisco to cash in as one of the top overall starting pitchers on the market.

The 32-year-old left hander enters his 10th MLB season looking to improve on a career 76-58 record to go along with a career 3.12 earned run average in what will be his fifth MLB season pitching within the NL West division.

Despite making only 20 starts last season, Snell was the top left-handed starting pitcher option on the market this off-season.

5. Max Fried

Position: Starting Pitcher

Free Agent Status: New York Yankees (8 years/$218 million)

Rounding out the Top 5 on the Top 10 MLB Free Agents 2025 Rankings list is the former Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Max Fried.

Max Fried, who was a member of the Atlanta Braves pitching staff since making his MLB debut back during the 2017 MLB season, now makes the jump from a talented National League East division to a loaded American League East division.

After missing over half of the 2023 MLB season due to a forearm injury, Fried rebounded nicely last season for the Braves while posting a 11-10 overall record to go along with 166 strikeouts, a 1.16 WHIP and a 3.25 earned run average.

While the production was down from his best season of 17 wins back during the 2019 MLB season, Fried has the stuff to be a pivotal big-time starter and will now slide in behind Gerrit Cole in the Yankees starting rotation.

4. Willy Adames

Position: Shortstop

Free Agent Status: San Francisco Giants (7 years/$182 million)

Entering free agency, the talented power hitting shortstop ranked among the top positional players available and a player who has the offensive skills to rank among the best at this position.

Coming off a strong 2024 MLB season that included 33 doubles, 93 runs scored, 32 home runs and 112 runs batted in, expectations were set high for a big-time deal for the former Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames.

A big contract was exactly what he would land after signing a seven-year deal worth $182 million dollars from the San Francisco Giants. Adames, who will not turn 30 till September is coming off his best season in the majors after setting career highs in runs scored, hits (153), doubles, home runs, runs batted in and walks (74). 

3. Pete Alonso

Position: First Baseman

Free Agent Status: Free Agent

While many of the top MLB free agents have found a home this off-season, one name that remains available is the former New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso. Alonso entered the off-season as one of the top overall bats on the market and top power hitters available.

Despite coming off 34 home runs and 88 runs batted in, the four-time MLB All-Star remains a free agent with a little over a month remaining before pitchers and catchers report to spring training.

Over the past six seasons including the shortened 2020 MLB season due to Covid-19, Alonso has posted 226 home runs to go along with 586 runs batted in and 493 runs scored. In addition, the former Mets first baseman has posted at least 60 walks in each of the five full seasons he has played in. 

2. Corbin Burnes

Position: Starting Pitcher

Free Agent Status: Signed (Arizona Diamondbacks – 6 years/$210 million)

One of the big off-season trades entering last season featured Corbin Burnes being dealt from the Milwaukee Brewers to the Baltimore Orioles. Fast forward another season and the talented starting pitcher entered free agency as one of the top starters available.

Just like last season, Burnes will not get set to suit up for his third team in three seasons as he signed a lucrative six-year $210 million dollar deal to join the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Burnes, who was the Orioles top starter for most of the 2024 MLB schedule finished the season with a 15-9 record while posting a 2.92 earned run average to go along with 181 strikeouts.

Since making his debut during the 2018 MLB season, Burnes has made four All-Star teams, won the 2021 NL CY Young Award while also led the NL in once in earned run average and once in strikeouts.

1. Juan Soto

Position: Right Fielder

Free Agent Status: New York Mets (15 years/$765 million)

In at number one on the Top 10 MLB Free Agents 2025 Rankings list is one of the newest faces of the New York Mets lineup Juan Soto. Soto, who was the hottest commodity on the free agent market entering the 2024-2025 off-season, propelled his MVP performance season into a record-breaking setting $765 million dollar contract over 15 years.

For the upcoming season Soto will be just 26 years old after celebrating his 26th birthday on October 25th. Over his first eight MLB seasons, Soto has posted at least 202 home runs in seven of those seasons while also driving in at least 109 runs in three different seasons.

Overall, the power hitting right fielder has compiled a career .285 batting average mark over 936 games played to go along with 179 doubles, 201 home runs, and 769 runs batted in.
