Honorable Mention

Detroit Tigers

MLB Standing: 4th Place AL Central

Just missing the Top 10 MLB Teams 2024 Rankings list is the Detroit Tigers who currently sit in fourth place in the AL Central while having one of the only seven winning records in the American League through the fourth of June.

The Tigers have been an interesting team posting just 259 runs on the season against 254 runs allowed which has been enough to help the team post 31 wins over their first 61 games of the season.

However, over their last 10 games, the Tigers have been one of the hottest teams in baseball winning seven of 10 to stay afloat in the American League Wild Card picture.

San Diego Padres

MLB Standings: 2nd Place NL West

After a slow start to the 2024 MLB season, the San Diego Padres have climbed their way back into the playoff picture with a 32-32 record to start the season.

While the overall play has not met the expectations many had set for the team, the Padres remain just one of five times with a record at or above the .500 mark to start the season.

Despite just 32 wins the Padres offense has been strong, ranking in the top 10 in on base percentage (.324), runs batted in (269), and OPS (.714).

However, the same has not been the case as the pitching staff has struggled allowing nearly a four earned run average mark (3.94) over 566.2 innings of work.

Top 10 MLB Teams 2024 Rankings

10. Minnesota Twins

MLB Standings: 3rd Place AL Central

Sliding in at number 10 on the Top 10 MLB Teams 2024 Rankings is the Minnesota Twins who continue to rank among the best teams in the American League to start the season.

The Twins have used a solid bullpen that currently ranks ninth among bullpen earned run averages (3.57) to help shut down games this season.

While their struggles have been on the mound allowing 259 runs over their first 60 games of the season, the team’s offense has found a way to keep them alive including helping to lead the team to six wins over their past 10 overall games.

9. Atlanta Braves

MLB Standings: 2nd Place NL East

The last week has not been overly great for the Atlanta Braves who lost reigning NL MVP Ronald Acuna Jr to a season ending leg injury.

While the injury is not great news, the good news overall the Braves have a lineup that remains loaded from top to bottom while continuing to produce a .250 team batting average to go along with an MLB leading 119 doubles to start the season.

In addition, the team’s strong starting rotation and bullpen continue to produce as well, posting just a 3.50 combined earned run average mark and a 1.22 WHIP while the bullpen ranks fourth in baseball with a combined 3.31 earned run average. If any team has the firepower to lose an MVP and still compete for a World Series, it is the Braves.

8. Kansas City Royals

MLB Standings: 2nd Place AL Central

The youth movement is slowly taking form in Kansas City despite the Kansas City Royals winning just three of their last 10 overall games.

One of those stars leading the team is Bobby Witt Jr who continues to rack at the plate while helping the Royals to rank third in doubles (109), sixth in runs scored (302), seventh in batting average (.253), and sixth in stolen bases (58).

Meanwhile the Royals pitching has been strong as well, pitching to a 3.60 team earned run average while allowing just 217 earned runs over 543 innings of baseball.

7. Seattle Mariners

MLB Standings: 1st Place AL West

After watching the Texas Rangers win the 2023 World Series, the Seattle Mariners are doing everything in their power to remain atop the AL West while making a run at another playoff trip.

The Mariners have been one of the hottest teams in baseball joining both the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles while winning eight of their last 10 overall games.

Despite scoring just 234 runs on the season and struggling at the plate for most of the team outside Julio Rodriguez, the team’s pitching has helped the team build a 5.5 game lead in the AL West as the month of June gets rolling.

Currently the Mariners rank sixth in all of baseball with a 3.46 earned run average over their first 62 games of the season. If the Mariners bats can come alive the AL West leaders could find a way to run away with the division the dog days of summer.

6. Milwaukee Brewers

MLB Standings: 1st Place NL Central

As you look around Major League Baseball the Milwaukee Brewers continue to be one of the sneakier teams in the hunt while controlling the NL Central. Despite trading away former All-Star Corbin Burnes, the Brewers continue to pitch at a prominent level while rookie Joey Ortiz who was received within that trade has emerged as a NL Rookie of the Year candidate.

Currently the Brewers have pitched to a 3.77 earned urn average on the season while their bullpen ranks sixth in baseball with a 3.41 earned run average mark over 256.1 innings of work. If the Brewers can get some stronger starting pitching down the stretch the team will be difficult to beat come the MLB Playoffs.

At the plate, the Brewers currently rank third with a .256 batting average while also ranking among the top five in stolen bases (81), on base percentage (.332), and hits (536).

5. Los Angeles Dodgers

MLB Standings: 1st Place NL West

Rounding out the Top 5 on the Top 10 MLB Teams 2024 Rankings list is the NL West leading Los Angeles Dodgers who have put together an 38-24 record to start the season. The hot start to the season and a slow start for the rest of the division helped the Dodgers build up a current seven game lead within the division.

The Dodgers who were as busy as any team during the off-season adding top free agent Shohei Ohtani continue to be the team to beat out west in the National League night in and night out. Currently the Dodgers strong pitching that ranks third in baseball with a 3.19 earned run average has carried the team led off-season acquisitions Tyler Glasnow and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

At the plate Ohtani has helped pace the Dodgers offense that currently ranks fourth in baseball in home runs (77), tied for fifth in batting average (.255), and second in on base percentage (.333).

4. Cleveland Guardians

MLB Standings: 1st Place AL Central

One of if not the best all around divisions in baseball the AL Central led by the Cleveland Guardians start the month of June with four teams currently sitting with a winning record.

At the top of those four teams is the red-hot Guardians who have won seven of their past 10 games while putting together a remarkable home record winning 21 of their first 28 games at Progressive Field this season. Like most of the top teams in baseball the Guardians have been great both at the plate and on the mound over their first 60 games of the season.

Through those 60 games, the AL Central leading Guardians have pitched to a 3.50 team earned run including an MLB leading 2.38 bullpen earned run average over 227 innings of work. At the plate, the Guardians currently rank second in baseball in runs scored (306), eighth in on base percentage (.315), and seventh in stolen bases (57).

3. Baltimore Orioles

MLB Standings: 2nd Place AL East

The American League East continues to be a loaded division despite not having the overall success as last season. One of those teams however that is continuing to play red hot baseball is the Baltimore Orioles who currently sit in second place within the AL just two games behind the New York Yankees.

The off-season addition of Corbin Burnes has anchored down their starting rotation while an up and down back end of the bullpen has caused a few additional losses that team did not witness last season.

Nonetheless the Orioles young roster led by AL MVP candidate Gunnar Henderson sit in second in all of baseball with 91 home runs, fourth in baseball with 304 runs scored, second in total bases (904), and first in slugging percentage (.446). The O’s have also seen their pitching staff post a 3.25 earned run average over their first 59 games while allowing just a .219 opposing batting average.

MLB Standings: 1st Place AL East

The New York Yankees could easily sit atop the list of the best teams right now in baseball after a red-hot month of May while surging to the top of the AL East.

The Yankees simply have one of the best all around teams in baseball and a roster that featured both the American League Player of the Month Aaron Judge as well as the AL Pitcher of the Month Luis Gil.

Led by a lineup that currently ranks fourth in baseball with a .255 batting average and a league leading 92 home runs the Yankees have produced the fourth most runs in baseball.

Over on the mound the Yankees entire pitching staff currently have posted the lowest earned run average in baseball (2.75) to start the season joining only the Philadelphia Phillies to post a mark below three.
