Ranking the Top NFL Rookies of the 2022-2023 NFL Season as Aidan Hutchinson leads the way

The offseason hype of the 2022 NFL Draft class has now turned to reality with two weeks of the 2022 NFL schedule in the books.

While the hype around many of the top stars is still high, the season is still early for every rookie to leave their mark in their first season in the NFL.

As teams prepare for week 2 of the 2022 NFL season, the opportunity to take a look at the Top 10 NFL Rookies 2022 rankings September list has arrived.


One of those 2022 NFL rookies making a strong case for the 2022 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award is the Detroit Lions first round pick Aidan Hutchinson.

As Hutchinson has been dominant on the defensive side of the ball, a long list of other rookies have made their mark early on as well.

The group of rookies include the talented wide receivers Drake London and Garrett Wilson while defensive rookies Travon Walker and Cobie Durant have played great to start the season. Here is a look at the Top 10 NFL Rookies 2022 rankings September.


Honorable Mention

Treylon Burks

Team: Tennessee Titans

Landing just outside of the Top 10 NFL Rookies 2022 rankings September list is the former Arkansas Razorbacks standout wide receiver Treylon Burks.

Burks, who the Tennessee Titans drafted with 18th overall pick during the 2022 NFL Draft has gotten off to a slow start while expectations were set high.

Burks who was expected to take over the role left by A.J. Brown has pulled in just seven catches to start the season for 92 yards with zero touchdowns. 

Derek Stingley Jr.

Team: Houston Texans

As many of the top NFL offensive rookies get their recognition, many of the top defensive stars tend to get overshadowed.

However, it is hard not to like the performance Derek Stingley Jr has shown to start the season. The Houston Texans cornerback has posted 15 tackles to start the season while recording three passes defended.

As Stingley Jr continues to develop into one of the NFL’s top young cornerbacks, the former 3rd overall NFL Draft pick is showcasing his potential in 2022.

10. Devin Lloyd

Team: Jacksonville Jaguars

Previous: Unranked

At number 10 on the Top 10 NFL Rookies 2022 rankings September list is the Jacksonville Jaguars Devin Lloyd.

As all eyes have been on the Jaguars top overall pick Travon Walker, Lloyd has gone under the radar despite being drafted late in the 1st round of the same draft.

Lloyd, who played his college football at Utah, has recorded 17 tackles over the teams first two games to go along with one interception, three passes defended and one stuff.

9. Chris Olave

Team: New Orleans Saints

Previous: #6

The former Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver is slowly transitioning his stellar college career into his performance in the NFL.

Olave, who was selected by the New Orleans Saints has built a solid one-two punch with Pro Bowl wide receiver Michael Thomas.

Over the course of the Saints first two games, Olave has been targeted 16 times including 13 times during the teams 20-10 week 2 loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On the year the Saints rookie receiver has pulled in eight catches for 121 yards to go along with four total catches resulting in a first down.

8. Dominique Robinson

Team: Chicago Bears

Previous: Unranked

As the Chicago Bears look to rebound from a few down years within the NFC North division, young talent such as former first round pick Justin Fields as well as fresh rookies such as Dominique Robinson are key to their future success.

Robinson, who the Bears drafted during the 5th round of the 2022 NFL draft from Miami of Ohio, is putting together a strong rookie season for the team. In his first game of the season, Robinson posted seven tackles to go along with 1.5 sacks.

7. Breece Hall

Team: New York Jets 

Previous: #4

The future looks promising in New York with a pair of talented rookies showcasing their talents to open the 2022 NFL schedule for the New York Jets.

One of those two rookies is rookie running back Breece Hall who the team drafted out of Iowa State during the 2nd round of the 2022 NFL draft.

After a slow start in week 1 against a very solid Baltimore Ravens run defense, Hall posted well in Week 2 rushing for 50 yards and adding a touchdown reception.

On 13 carries to start the season, Hall is averaging 5.6 yards per carry while also nearly seven yards per catch (6.9).

6. Jahan Dotson

Team: Washington Commanders

Previous: Unranked

As you look around at the talented group of wide receivers taken off the board during the 2022 NFL draft, a case could be made that this could be a memorable group for years to come. One of those talented wide receivers is the former Penn State Nittany Lions wide receiver Jahan Dotson.

Dotson, who was selected with the 16th overall draft pick, has pulled in seven catches to start the season while adding three touchdown receptions. The Commanders receiver is tied for second in the NFL with three touchdown receptions.

5. Cobie Durant

Team: Los Angeles Rams

Previous: Unranked

Coming in at number five on the Top 10 NFL Rookies 2022 rankings September list is the former South Carolina State Cobie Durant.

Every year around the NFL an unnoticed group of rookies make their mark around the NFL and one of those rookies in 2022 is the former South Carolina State cornerback Durant.

Durant, who was a former First-Team All-MEAC selection is slowly becoming a solid cornerback as a rookie for the Los Angeles Rams.

Playing alongside All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, Durant has shown his potential posting two tackles, one sack, one interception, and one pass defended.

4. Travon Walker

Team: Jacksonville Jaguars

After being selected number one overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars the hype built around Travon Walker is high as any player in the National Football League.

Walker, who was a key part of the Georgia Bulldogs success in route to the National Championship last season, has been a key member of the Jaguars defense to start the 2022 NFL season.

The Jaguars linebacker has recorded six tackles to start the season while recording one sack, one interception, and one pass defended. 

3. Garrett Wilson

Team: New York Jets

Previous: #8

The New York Jets landed two highly talented offensive weapons during the 2022 NFL draft with running back Breece Hall and wide receiver Garrett Wilson. While hopes were that Wilson would begin to build chemistry with Zach Wilson, an injury has forced him to build rhythm with Joe Flacco.

Nonetheless Wilson has looked great to start the season for the Jets. After a slow start against a good defense in week 1, Wilson was able to attack the Cleveland Browns in week 2, pulling in eight catches for 102 yards with two touchdowns including a game winning grab with just 22 second left in the fourth quarter. The Jets receiver has posted eight first downs on his 14 catches this season.

2. Drake London

Team: Atlanta Falcons

It is hard to determine exactly which of the three top rookies in the NFL is deserving of the top overall spot. In the end the Atlanta Falcons first round draft pick Drake London lands at the number two spot after a strong start to his career.

After his first two games in the NFL London is tied for 11th in total catches with 13, tied for 13th in receiving yards with 160, and tied for 16th with one touchdown reception.

The talented Falcons receiver has picked up eight first downs while being targeted at least seven times in each of the team’s first two contests of the season.

The number two overall pick during the 2022 NFL Draft lands atop the Top 10 NFL Rookies 2022 rankings September list after a strong start to the 2022 NFL Schedule.

After being limited against a very mobile quarterback in week 1, Aidan Hutchinson was nearly unstoppable in the Detroit Lions key win over the Washington Redskins in week 2.

Hutchinson recorded six tackles and three sacks while limiting the Washington Commanders offense in making a key play when needed.
