Who’s The Best Team in the MLB Right Now?

2025 was a banner year in the history of Major League Baseball, with teams all over the league putting together competitive seasons as the playoffs were some of the most viewed in recent memory. That came with the emergence of new teams such as the Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays as genuine World Series threats, and in 2026, there are even more teams gunning for the back-to-back Champions.

Through the first two months of the season, there have been some major surprises, big time disappointments and incredible performances, and as usual, we’re set up for what should be a fantastic season ahead.

However, there’s only a select few teams that can be seen as genuine World Series threats, and while things will definitely change over a long season, the following are the top 10 teams in baseball through the early part of the 2026 campaign.

Here is a look at the Top 10 Best MLB Teams 2026 Rankings list:

Honorable Mention

Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers have been one of baseball’s best teams for years now, and despite being written off year after year, they’ve finished first in the National League Central four out of the past five seasons. The pitching staff may not have the big names that they once did, but every season they uncover very productive, talented players, and in 2026 that hasn’t changed, with the team ranking eighth in team ERA thus far.

Similarly, the lineup isn’t full of big, household names, but year after year they manage to manufacture enough runs to be highly competitive and consistent across 162 games. With a record of 14-13, the Brewers currently sit in last in the National League Central, but given their experience at overcoming adversity, it’s hard to ignore this team and how good they’ve been in recent years.

Honorable Mention

Toronto Blue Jays

In 2025, the Toronto Blue Jays were on a magical run that ended in Game 7 of the World Series, and after a strong off-season that included the additions of Dylan Cease, Tyler Rogers and Kazuma Okamoto, they entered 2026 with World Series aspirations. However, much of the 2026 season thus far has been defined by the injury bug, with no less than 10 genuine contributors being injured, with Alejandro Kirk, Addison Barger and George Springer among those that have missed significant time this season.

However, they’ve now won back-to-back series, and although they sit at 12-15 on the season, as they continue to get healthier, they’ll prove that they’re among the best of the best in Major League Baseball. Right now, the overall statistics don’t tell the entire story, but with balance and star power in their lineup, rotation and bullpen, it’s only a matter of time until the record reflects just how good this team is and can be.

Top 10 MLB Teams 2025 Rankings

10. Oakland Athletics

In recent times, the Athletics have been completely devoid of top tier talent, and while the organization still aren’t willing to spend big on free agents to improve the team, they’ve managed to build well from within. This is a team that’s led by a young core of Jacob Wilson, Nick Kurtz, Shea Langaliers and Lawrence Butler among others, and with that talented lineup, they’re off to a 15-13 start to the season.

That comes as a result of the offense, as they sit in the top half of the league in runs, RBI, home runs and team batting average, and while a team ERA of 4.42 needs improving, they’re showing just how good this team can be as they develop together. Over 162 games, this team will go through their ups and downs, so they may not end the season anywhere near the top-10, but for now, given their offensive performances, it’s easy to see why they can be a major threat in the American League West.

9. Arizona Diamondbacks

Just three seasons ago, the Arizona Diamondbacks found themselves in the World Series against the Texas Rangers, and while they’ve struggled for consistency since that point, the team are loaded top to bottom with elite level talent. They found that success through the home run ball, and while they’ve struggled in that way this season, they rank seventh in baseball in team average this season, and in a loaded NL West, they’ve managed to stay competitive 15-12 through their first 27 games.

On paper, they’re set to get much healthier as the season rolls on as well, and if the rotation led by Zac Gallen can find their rhythm and improve from a 4.42 team ERA, they could be a genuine World Series threat. As of now however, they’re at best the third team in their division, and if they’re to make a deep run, they’ll need to stay healthy and manage to peak at the right time of the season.

8. Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been one of baseball’s most promising teams for years, featuring several top prospects like Paul Skenes, Konnor Griffin and Bubba Chandler, who all represent the future of the organization. In 2026 however, the team appear to finally be putting it together, and with arguably the deepest rotation in baseball ranking fourth in the league with a 3.34 team ERA, they represent a genuine threat this season.

The lineup still needs work with their depth, but with Oneil Cruz’ 24 RBI representing one of six players in double digit RBI, it appears as though they’ve taken a major step forward. With young teams, it’s hard to be consistent over a 162-game season, but over the first six weeks of the year, it’s been hard to deny just how much success this young, energetic team appears to be set up for.

7. Chicago Cubs

Last season, the Chicago Cubs were arguably a top-five team in baseball through the regular season, and in 2026, it appears as though the team are trending in the right direction to being genuine contenders once more. After an All-Star appearance a year ago, Nico Hoerner is leading the way again in 2026 with 23 RBI, and given that the team rank third in MLB in team batting average and 10th in team ERA, they’re as balanced as any squad in baseball.

They’re yet to separate themselves in a highly competitive NL Central this season, but given the Cubs incredible blend of experience and youth, the present and the future remain bright for Chicago. It’s unclear whether or not the team can make themselves a genuine World Series threat in 2026, but as of right now, they’re the team best poised to come out on top in the NL Central across a very long 162 game campaign.

6. Tampa Bay Rays

Given how many great teams there are in the American League East, it’s very easy to overlooked the Tampa Bay Rays, who have been one of baseball’s most consistent teams for years now. This season, they sit at 16-11 with four straight victories, and given that they are top-10 in team average, hits and runs as a lineup, they’ve finally struck a balance that they struggled with in 2025.

With a 4.36 team ERA however, the Rays need major improvement as a pitching staff, but if they can find that with this experienced rotation, there’s no reason why they can’t challenge the Yankees and the Blue Jays in the AL East. Given the front office’s lack of aggression in pursuing big name free agents or blockbuster trades, they’ve unfortunately got a ceiling on them as a team, but right now, they’re shaping up as a major threat in the American League.

5. Cincinnati Reds

Last season, the Cincinnati Reds took a huge leap forward on the back of arguably baseball’s best rotation, and in 2026, the team have been just as good, with the team ERA of 3.77 ranking them seventh in the league. This season, the offense has seemingly caught up as well, as they rank fifth in baseball in home runs, and with a record of 18-10 through 28 games, they’re showing the balance that makes them a major threat in the National League Central.

The biggest positive for Cincinnati is that this success comes on the back of the youth, with Elly De La Cruz, Sal Stewart, and Matt McLain leading the way, and with a good balance, this could be the breakout team of 2026. Ultimately though, this team will only go as far as the pitching staff can take them, and if they can be as good as 2025 with the much improved offense, this team is the dark horse in Major League Baseball this season.

4. New York Yankees

For decades, the New York Yankees have been the standard in Major League Baseball, and although they’ve not won a World Series since 2009, they’ve been consistently competitive year in, year out. All of their success is led by superstar right fielder Aaron Judge, but with seven players in double-digit RBI early in the season, the depth around him is finally starting to perform at a very high level.

With a record of 18-10, the Yankees are the clear best team in the American League, and that comes despite Carlos Rodon and Gerrit Cole being out through their first 28 games of the season. Right now, the Yankees are playing high quality baseball, ranking top two in baseball across most offensive categories, but if they can get healthy as the season rolls on, they could be back to the World Series for the second time since 2024.

3. Atlanta Braves

In 2025, the Atlanta Braves surprisingly struggled as they were unable to stay consistently healthy, but with the return of Ronald Acuna Jr., this team are back to their best in 2026 as they currently hold baseball’s best record at 20-9 through their first 29 games. In that time, the team are No. 1 in team ERA at 3.13, and given that they rank second in baseball in average and third in home runs, this is a team that can win in many different ways.

Through 29 games, the Braves have three players with 20 RBI or more and six with over 15, and given the depth in this lineup with the return of Acuna Jr., they’re the clear favorite in the National League East. On top of that, the Braves have three starters with over 32 innings pitched on the season, and if they can make a splash at the trade deadline, they may be the biggest threat to the Dodgers in the National League.

2. San Diego Padres

Once upon a time, the San Diego Padres were struggling for relevance in the National League West, but then, they started paying top tier free agents, and ever since then, they’ve been seen as a World Series threat year after year. Unfortunately, they’ve struggled to live up to those expectations despite a deep lineup and a solid pitching staff, but in 2026, they appear to finally be putting it all together.

The highlight of their season has been the pure dominance of closer Mason Miller, who has an ERA of 0.00 in 13 appearances with 10 saves and a ridiculous 27 strikeouts in 13.1 innings of work. Overall, the team ranks 12th in baseball in team ERA, and with a lineup that includes veterans such as Manny Machado, Xander Bogaerts and Fernando Tatis Jr., it’s a matter of when, not if this team can finally go on a deep MLB Playoffs run.

1. Los Angeles Dodgers

For years now, the Los Angeles Dodgers have been baseball’s most loaded team, with superstars up and down this lineup making them almost untouchable as they’ve won back-to-back World Series. In 2026, things have been no different, with the team sitting at 19-9 through their first 28 games of the season, it appears as though they are ready to dominate once again, with a deep lineup, a stellar bullpen and the most loaded starting rotation in recent MLB memory.

All of that success has been led by two-way star Shohei Ohtani, and with the likes of Andy Pages (third in MLB in RBI) and other role players taking a step forward, this team is heavily favored to win the World Series once more. Other teams in baseball rely heavily on their health with a potential lack of depth, but that’s no worry in Los Angeles, as backup catcher Dalton Rushing is outplaying most starting players at the position, showing just how deep this squad is.

Sure, you may hate the way that the Dodgers have gone about putting their roster together, but they’re loaded full of superstars in their prime, and until they fail, there’s no reason to doubt this incredible team.
