Ranking the best WNBA Players going into the 2024 WNBA Season as Breanna Stewart of the New York Liberty leads the way

The 2024 WNBA season is fast approaching as the opening tip is set for Tuesday May 14th, 2024, featuring an action packed four game lineup. A line that features a strong lineup of games including the league’s top two teams the New York Liberty who square off against the Washington Mystics and the reigning back-to-back WNBA Champions the Las Vegas Aces. Entering the season each of these two teams are loaded with talent including the reigning WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart who lands at number one on the Top 10 WNBA Players 2024 Rankings Preview.
Stewart enters the upcoming season coming off her second league MVP Award after averaging 23 points per game to go along with 9.3 rebounds. The former UConn Huskies forward continues to rank among the best players within the WNBA since arriving back during the 2016 WNBA Draft.
Joining Stewart among the top players within the WNBA include two-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson who will also look to take home her third award while leading the Aces to a three-peat as WNBA Champions.
The rest of the top five players in the WNBA include Jewell Lloyd of the Seattle Storm, Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx, and Alyssa Thomas of the Connecticut Sun.

Honorable Mention
Aliyah Boston
Team: Indiana Fever
Position: Forward
Just missing the Top 10 WNBA Players 2024 Rankings Preview is the second year Indiana Fever star Aliyah Boston who will look to take another huge step forward in her second season.
Boston who was the first overall pick during the 2024 WNBA season capped off an impressive rookie season taking home the 2023 WNBA Rookie of the Year Award while also being selected to her first WNBA All-Star team.
Now with current first overall pick Caitlin Clark, Boston will look to take her game to the next level while helping the Fever compete for a WNBA title.
In her first season in the WNBA, the former South Carolina Gamecocks forward averaged 14.5 points per game to go along with 8.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocked shots.
Sabrina Ionescu
Team: New York Liberty
Position: Guard
If you are looking for one of the best pure shooters in the WNBA look no further than the New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu. Ionescu, who played her college basketball with the Oregon Ducks posted a career high 44.8 percent three-point field goal mark last season while making 3.6 three pointers a game en route to averaging 17 points per game.
The Liberty star ranks among the best three-point shooters within the league however her skills do not stop there as the Liberty guard is a playmaker both on the glass as well as running the team’s offense while also being an unselfish player looking for stars such as Breanna Stewart at times on the offensive end of the floor.
Overall Ionescu brings a strong all-around game that features the ability to add five rebounds and five assists each game to go along with 17 plus points.

10. Kelsey Plum
Team: Las Vegas Aces
Position: Guard
Sliding in at number 10 on the Top 10 WNBA Players 2024 Rankings Preview is the Las Vegas Aces guard Kelsey Plum. Plum is one of a handful of Aces who have the talent and production to land among the best players in the league.
Plum will enter the season along with A’ja Wilson looking to become the second WNBA franchise to repeat and first since the Houston Comets won four straight from 1997 to 2000.
She is a jack of trade guard who not only commands the Aces offense but is also one the best passers in the league while averaging 4.5 assists per game last season.
With a ton of fire power on the floor scoring opportunities are limited however Plum has capitalized averaging 18.7 and 20.2 points per game over the past two seasons.
9. Kahleah Copper
Team: Phoenix Mercury
Position: Guard
After spending the past seven seasons with the Chicago Sky, Kahleah Copper will start a new legacy after being traded to the Phoenix Mercury during the off-season.
The former Rutgers Scarlett Knights guard is coming off her best season within the WNBA while coming off averaging a career high 18.7 points per game.
The Mercury landed another playmaker on the offensive end of the floor while giving the team another talented offensive weapon who can shoot among the best within the league.
Copper is coming off an impressive 40.4 three-point percentage mark along with a 44.8 field goal percentage while averaging 31.2 minutes per game.
8. Satou Sabally
Team: Dallas Wings
Position: Forward
When you look at the best players in the WNBA sometimes you must look deeper than just overall scoring numbers. This is the case when you look at Satou Sabally who is one of the best shooters in the WNBA and a player who has the potential to score 20 plus points per game, however, her unselfish style of play limits her overall scoring potential.
Sabally has a complete all-around game while averaging 18.6 points per game while also adding 8.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. The Dallas Wings forward enters the 2024 WNBA season coming off finishing ninth in the WNBA in scoring, tenth in rebounding, and 14th in assists.
In addition, Sabally added nearly two steals per game over 38 games played last season. The big question now is how long Sabally will be out after suffering a shoulder injury during Olympic qualifying that required surgery.
7. Arike Ogunbowale
Team: Dallas Wings
Position: Guard
The sixth year WNBA star and three-time WNBA All-Star continues to put together a strong WNBA resume each season. The latest success came last season the Dallas Wings star posted her second career season averaging at least 20 points while finishing with 21.2 points per game over 40 games played.
Since arriving in the league during the 2019 WNBA Draft, the former Notre Dame Fighting Irish guard has posted a career average of 20.2 points per game over 157 career games played.
In addition, Ogunbowale added 3.4 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.7 steals per game last season. The Wings will be leaning on Ogunbowale more this season while looking to compete with the Las Vegas Aces and New York Liberty for the best team in the WNBA.
6. Nneka Ogwumike
Team: Seattle Storm
Position: Forward
Despite entering her 13th WNBA Season, Nneka Ogwumike continues to rank among the best players in the league both offensively and defensively.
While Ogwumike leaves behind a storied career with the Los Angeles Sparks, a new chapter opens during the 2024 WNBA season while looking to help the Seattle Storm return to a contender within the WNBA.
Ogwumike is coming off her second season averaging at least 19 points per game (19.1) last season while also adding 8.8 rebounds, 1.7 steals, 2.7 assists while also shooting 51.2 percent from the floor and 33.9 percent from behind the three-point line.
5. Alyssa Thomas
Team: Connecticut Sun
Position: Forward
Rounding out the Top 5 on the Top 10 WNBA Players 2024 Rankings Preview list is the Connecticut Sun long time veteran Alyssa Thomas.
Thomas enters the upcoming season showing no signs of slowing down while adding more accomplishments to her career resume including earning her fourth WNBA All-Star selection last season.
The former Maryland Terps star brings an all-around game to the floor while giving up a chance to elevate her own personal scoring numbers to improve the overall team.
Thomas is a tremendous leader and a player who not only averages 15.5 points per game but also led the WNBA in rebounding (9.9) while also ranking second in assists per game (7.9).
4. Napheesa Collier
Team: Minnesota Lynx
Position: Forward
One team entering the 2024 WNBA Season looking to take a big step forward is the Minnesota Lynx who continues to add weapons to compete while also continuing to rely on Napheesa Collier to continue to elevate her game.
Collier is coming off an impressive fifth season in the WNBA after appearing in just four games during the 2022 WNBA Season. Collier posted a career high 21.5 points per game over 37 games played while also ranking among the best rebounders in the league posting 8.5 per game.
The former UConn Huskies forward is strong on both ends of the floor providing a shot blocker down low as well as someone who can play aggressive defense to limit opposing players attacking the glass. Collier should continue this success during the upcoming season.
3. Jewell Lloyd
Team: Seattle Storm
Position: Guard
Entering the 2024 WNBA Season the Seattle Storm are looking to bounce back as a team to beat while adding multiple key weapons to join Jewell Lloyd. Lloyd will enter the season as the team’s top weapon just a season after leading the league in scoring while averaging 24.7 points per game.
The former first overall pick during the 2015 WNBA Draft also averaged 4.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and one steal per game over 38 games played.
Since entering the league during the 2015 WNBA Season, Lloyd has averaged double figures in each season she has played including setting her career high last season while topping the 20-point mark for the first time of her career.
2. A’ja Wilson
Team: Las Vegas Aces
Position: Forward
Another talented star that continues to build a Hall of Fame resume is the former South Carolina Gamecocks star and current Las Vegas Aces forward A’ja Wilson.
Wilson displayed her ability to rank among the best players in the league while posting 23.8 points per game and 11.8 rebounds while leading the Aces to their second straight WNBA Championship last season.
Despite coming up just short of the WNBA MVP, Wilson’s powerful performance landed her the WNBA Finals MVP joining her previous two league MVP awards.
Overall, during the regular season Wilson finished third in the WNBA in scoring (22.8), second in rebounding (9.5) and first in blocked shots (2.2).
1. Breanna Stewart
Team: New York Liberty
Position: Forward
In at number one on the Top 10 WNBA Players 2024 Rankings Preview is the reigning WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart. Stewart enters the 2024 season ranked among the best players in the league after continuing to rank among the best overall performers within the league.
In her first season with the New York Liberty, Stewart posted 23 points per game to go along with 9.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game.
Stewart is an all-around talent who has posted a career 47.2 percent field goal percentage mark to go along with a 36.5 percent three-point field goal percentage over 223 career games.
The former UConn Huskies star will look to lead the Liberty on another deep postseason run-in hopes of delivering the team their first WNBA Championship.
