Lutmer quietly played like one of the most technically sound corners in the nation, earning his way among a strong list of talented cornerbacks in college football. The talented playmaker posted a career high 68 tackles to go along with three interceptions including one returned for a touchdown, one sack and six passes defended over the season. His reactive quickness and foot discipline stood out, forcing quarterbacks to look elsewhere.

While he didn’t post gaudy takeaway numbers, Lutmer’s consistency against Big Ten competition was undeniable all season. Looking ahead at the 2026-2027 College Football season, the Hawkeyes talented cornerback has the tools to compete for All-American honors and the Jim Thorpe Award.

Devon Marshall

School: NC State Wolfpack

NFL Draft Status: 2026 NFL Draft

The NC State Wolfpack cornerback Devon Marshall made opposing quarterbacks second-guess every throw in his direction.

Marshall’s ability to disrupt routes and his physical tackling made him integral in limiting yards after the catch. The crafty and physical cornerback capped off the senior posting a staggering 15 passes defended while ranking among the best cornerbacks in the country. To go along with those numbers, the Wolfpack cornerback added 50 tackles, one forced fumble and two interceptions.

While he missed the top 10, Marshall’s zone awareness and ability to close downhill suggest his breakout may just be the beginning of what looks to be a promising career within the NFL.

10. Brandon Finney Jr

School: Oregon Ducks

NFL Draft Status: Returning to Oregon

Among the deep Big Ten cornerback pool, Brandon Finney Jr. earned his place in the Top 10 College Football Cornerbacks 2025-2026 rankings despite being just a freshman this season.

The talented freshman played with confidence all season while showcasing a high football IQ and strong poise despite playing against some of the top wide receivers in the country. Since arriving with the Oregon Ducks, Finney Jr has emerged as a game changer in the secondary while posting seven passes defended and one interception during his first season on campus. The production didn’t stop there as Finney also added 34 tackles, posted one sack and forced two fumbles during the season.

Finney’s length and closing burst allowed him to shut down opposing receivers while forcing quarterbacks to look for other options during the passing attack. His style of play showcased he thrives in pressure, unafraid to attack the ball when the moment’s biggest arises

9. Jalon Kilgore

School: South Carolina Gamecocks

NFL Draft Status: 2026 NFL Draft

When a cornerback can handle both slot duty and outside matchups, he becomes invaluable, and that’s exactly what Jalon Kilgore did this season for the South Carolina Gamecocks.

The junior cornerback was a staple within the Gamecocks secondary, often forcing opposing quarterbacks to look to second and third options while limiting the play of the team’s top wide receiver option. Kilgore, like many of the other top cornerbacks in the country, will look to continue his success at the next level next year after declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft. 

Ultimately Kilgore was as strong as any cornerback in the nation posting 54 tackles to go song with 10 passes defensed and two interceptions. His film study habits and anticipation turned him into a turnover opportunist. 8. Hezekiah Masses

School: California Bears

Electric and fearless, Hezekiah Masses played with the aggression of a safety and the precision of a corner from the opening whistle of the season to the final game of his collegiate career.

The Cal Bear standout racked up 47 tackles, 12 pass breakups, and 5 interceptions while serving as the heart of a defense that looked to shut down the top quarterbacks within the ACC conference. Masses’ zone discipline and recovery speed turned broken plays into defensive stops, helping the Bears stay competitive in tight games. His physical play at the line consistently disrupted timing routes, showing the kind of NFL prototype press skills that translate well.

Despite the struggles of the Bears over the course of the season, Masses was one of the team’s bright spots while earning Second Team All-American and First Team All-ACC honors.

7. Malik Muhammad

School: Texas Longhorns

NFL Draft Status:

Dynamic footwork and balance marked Malik Muhammad’s ascent into the top tier of the SEC cornerbacks while earning Second Team All-SEC honors.

Muhammad who has already announced his intention to enter the 2026 NFL Draft, capped off a strong three seasons with the Texas Longhorns while being an anchor in the secondary each season. The three year starter finished the 2025-2026 season posting 30 tackles to go along with four passes defensed, one sack, and two interceptions.

Whether tight in press or dropping back in cover-3, Muhammad consistently mirrored receivers and disrupted passing lanes. His knack for baiting quarterbacks into risky throws turned him into one of the conference’s most respected defenders. NFL scouts will appreciate his patience and fluid hips , tools that make him a Sunday-ready corner.

6. Treydan Stukes

School: Arizona Wildcats

NFL Draft Status: 2026 NFL Draft

A long time veteran within the Arizona Wildcats secondary, Treydan Stukes ranked among the best cornerbacks in the country including within the Big 12 conference.

Stukes capped off his final season with the Wildcats turning in his best overall season posting 52 tackles to go along with one sack, six passes defended, and a career high four interceptions. The strong play all season landed Stukes First Team All-Big 12 honors while also landing him among the names of cornerbacks to watch leading into the 2026 NFL Draft. Stukes’ ability to play through contact and track the ball midair was critical to Arizona’s defensive identity.

He was often assigned to shadow the opposing WR1, a responsibility he met with calm confidence and stellar footwork.

5. Brice Pollock

School: Texas Tech Red Raiders

NFL Draft Status: Undecided 

Few players in the Top 10 College Football Cornerbacks 2025-2026 rankings embodied “shutdown” quite like Brice Pollock.

Pollock was an anchor within the Texas Tech Red Raiders secondary, not only shutting down opposing wide receivers but coming up with the big turnover to help the team win football games all season. 4. Davison Igbinosun

School: Ohio State Buckeyes

NFL Draft Status: 2026 NFL Draft

A cornerstone of the Ohio State Buckeyes secondary, Davison Igbinosun blended strength and intelligence into one of the Big Ten’s most reliable coverage weapons.

Igbinosun who plays alongside a star stellar defense with the Buckeyes including Jim Thorpe Award Winner Caleb Downs was a key weapon of the team’s success allowing the fewest number of passing yards per game (129.1) this season. The big physical cornerback posted 42 tackles to go along with two interceptions and six passes defended while helping the Buckeyes reach the College Football Playoffs.

His patience at the line and hand placement neutralized top-tier route runners. Igbinosun was instrumental in Ohio State’s defensive scheme, forcing quarterbacks to abandon one side of the field entirely, a telling mark of an elite corner.

3. D’Angelo Ponds

School: Indiana Hoosiers

The battle for the recognition for the top cornerback in college football was a battle all season with Leonard Moore of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish being well deserving of the honor.

The talented sophomore cornerback was one of the best all around defensive players in College Football and a true game changer since arriving as a freshman last season. Moore capped off his second season posting a career high five interceptions including one returned for a touchdown while also adding seven passes defended, one forced fumble, and 31 tackles on the season.

His calm demeanor and cerebral approach turned complex zone concepts into seamless execution. Whether facing speed burners or possession receivers, Moore adapted, adjusted, and won.

NFL Draft Status: 2026 NFL Draft

Sitting atop the Top 10 College Football Cornerbacks 2025-2026 rankings is the LSU Tigers talented cornerback Mansoor Delane.

Delane, who elected to transfer from the Virginia Tech Hokies, finished the season ranked among the best cornerbacks in the country while adding his name to the long list of talented defensive backs on the DBU mount rushmore. The LSU Tigers who have been nicknamed over the years as Defensive Back University (DBU), relied on Delane as a pure game changer in the secondary while forcing opposing quarterbacks to turn to their second and third options before the ball was even hiked.

The All-American cornerback and Jim Thorpe Award finalist capped off his final season in college with 45 tackles, two interceptions and 11 passes defended. Delane’s combination of physicality, anticipation, and football IQ defined LSU’s defensive identity. Whether shutting down elite SEC receivers or saving touchdowns in zone drops, Delane embodied dominance through discipline.

One of the most complete all around cornerbacks in the country, Delane will enter the 2026 NFL Draft as one of the top overall players in the country, not just at the cornerback position.
