MLB Season Preview 2024 Rankings

The 2024 MLB Opening Day is just two weeks away from today as the excitement continues to build around the country. Coming off an amazing 2023 that saw an improbable run to a World Series title for the Texas Rangers to amazing play of some of the game’s top rookies to single season performances never seen before including the season produced by the Atlanta Braves NL MVP Ronald Acuna. As you start to look around at all 30 MLB teams, each of these teams have some talent including the Los Angeles Dodgers who lands among the tops of the Top 10 MLB Teams 2024 Rankings Preview list.

The Dodgers were as active as any team in baseball during free agency despite having one of the best all-around lineups in baseball as well as a strong rotation. The Dodgers were able to add AL MVP Shohei Ohtani on a massive MLB record contract as well as Japanese star Yoshinobu Yamamoto while also adding James Paxton and Tyler Glasnow to their rotation.

While the Dodgers look great after their move’s teams like the Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers are loaded with young talent while the New York Yankees added MLB All-Star Juan Soto to their lineup to deliver one of the best tandems in all of baseball with Soto and Aaron Judge. Each of these four teams join the Dodgers among the five best teams in Major League Baseball entering the 2024 MLB season.

Honorable Mention

Cincinnati Reds

Just missing the Top 10 MLB Teams 2024 Rankings Preview list is the Cincinnati Reds who are coming off an 82-80 season while just missing out on the playoffs. After finishing the season winning just three of their last ten, the Reds look as promising as any team in baseball loaded with a young core of talent including Elly De La Cruz.

The second-year star brings electric talent and potential while looking to build on a rookie season that included 15 doubles, seven triples and 13 home runs over just 388 total at bats.

In addition to De La Cruz, the Reds lineup includes Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Spencer Steer while young arms Brandon Williamson and Hunter Greene deliver promise on the mound.

Toronto Blue Jays

Coming off their American League playoff appearance as an AL wild card team, the Toronto Blue Jays enter the 2024 MLB schedule looking to improve on their third-place finish within the American League East.

The Blue Jays continue to have a promising nucleus of young star power including Bo Bichette, George Springer, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr who anchor down the team’s top of the lineup. In the off-season the team added Justin Turner for a veteran leader to solidify their top of the lineup.

Meanwhile the team’s rotation of Kevin Gausman and Jose Berrios is strong to compete while veterans such as Chris Bassit and Alek Manoah deliver depth among the starting rotation.

Top 10 MLB Teams 2024 Rankings

10. Seattle Mariners

Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 MLB Teams 2024 Rankings Preview list is the Seattle Mariners who will be looking to chase the American League West title during the 2024 MLB season.

An American League West that is loaded with talent including the defending World Series Champions the Texas Rangers. The Mariners are loaded with talent including 23-year-old former AL Rookie of the Year Julio Rodriguez who will look to build on his 32 home runs and 103 runs batted in campaign of last year.

Ty France and Cal Raleigh will look to continue to develop as young stars while Luis Castillo looks to anchor down the rotation as the team’s top starter.

9. Arizona Diamondbacks

What an amazing 2023 MLB season the Arizona Diamondbacks had coming up short in the World Series against the loaded Texas Rangers. The Diamondbacks continued to improve their roster during the off-season adding a strong starting pitcher to join Zac Gallen after agreeing to terms with Eduardo Rodriguez on a four-year deal.

In addition to Gallen the Diamondbacks rotation now features Rodriguez, Merrill Kelly, and Brandon Pfaadt. Meanwhile the young core at the plate includes Corbin Carroll who is fresh off his NL Rookie of the Year while the team also added power hitter Joc Pederson for depth.

The Diamondbacks will continue to look to compete in a loaded National League West that features both the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers.

8. Tampa Bay Rays

Year in and year out the lack of big-time free agent signings leaves many fans and Major League Baseball experts wondering if the Tampa Bay Rays have enough to compete. The same can be said entering the 2024 MLB season, however the Rays continue to rely on the team’s strong minor league depth each season.

One star continuing to help pace the team’s lineup while being the captain of the team is Randy Arozarena who is coming off another strong season. Joining Arozarena in the Rays lineup includes Yandy Diaz and Isaac Paredes who combined to hit 53 home runs and rive in 176 runs last season.

However, the big question mark with the Rays entering the season is whether or not Shane McClanahan will return this season and who will step up in place of Tyler Glasnow.

7. Houston Astros

It is hard to write off the Houston Astros as one of the best teams in Major League Baseball after winning the World Series just two seasons ago while also winning the AL West division in each of the previous three seasons.

The Astros are loaded both on the mount as well at the plate including a lineup that features Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Jeremy Pena, Jose Abreu, and Jordan Alvarez.

With a loaded lineup of power hitters, the team will also rely on a strong rotation that includes veteran Justin Verlander as well as starters Lance McCullers Jr, Luis Garcia, and J.P. France. In addition, the Astros solidified their bullpen adding Josh Hader to round out the back end. 

6. Philadelphia Phillies

The big question mark for the Philadelphia Phillies entering the off-season was whether or not the team would be able to bring back front end of the rotation starter Aaron Nola.

Luckily, the Phillies were able to sign him while delivering the team a strong rotation that features Zach Wheeler, Michael Lorenzen, Ranger Suarez, and Taijuan Walker. While the rotation is a strong point for the Phillies, the team’s lineup ranks among the best in the National League built around Bryce Harper who is expected to be fully healthy starting the season.

Joining Harper in the Phillies lineup includes Nick Castellanos, J.T. Realmuto, Trea Turner, and Kyle Schwarber while the addition of Whit Merrifield delivers a speed top of the lineup hitter who can turn a base hit into a triple.

5. New York Yankees

Rounding out the Top 5 on the Top 10 MLB Teams 2024 Rankings Preview list is the New York Yankees. Entering each season you just cannot write off the New York Yankees. This off-season was no different as the Yankees acquired NL All-Star and MVP candidate Juan Soto to deliver the Yankees the potential best middle lineup in all of baseball including Aaron Judge.

With Soto and Judge in the lineup the Yankees will be a hard team to slow down. Meanwhile Gerrit Cole continues to rank among the best starters in baseball, however, an elbow injury limiting his season could deliver the Yankees a big blow before the 2023 MLB season even gets started.

However, the addition of Marcus Stroman delivers the team a valuable arm while the potential of a strong bounce back season from Carlos Rodon delivers the team hopes of a AL East Championship.

4. Baltimore Orioles

Fresh off leading the American League in wins last season while topping the 100-win mark, the Baltimore Orioles will look to take home the AL East title for the second straight season.

The Orioles, who have a loaded farm system that ranks among the best in baseball while having another number one overall prospect in Jackson Holliday were able to add a top tier arm through an off-season trade.

The move delivered Corbin Burnes to the team’s rotation, a rotation that was brilliant all season while also featuring CY Young candidate Kyle Bradish while also seeing a strong second half from rookie Grayson Rodriguez.

Meanwhile, the team’s young nucleus at the plate features All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman, AL Rookie of the Year Gunnar Henderson, while also having young stars in the waiting such as Holliday and Colton Cowser. The future looks promising for the Orioles as the 2024 MLB season approaches and the hopes of a deeper postseason sets in for fans.

3. Atlanta Braves

One of the most well-rounded teams in all of baseball the Atlanta Braves will look to bring home another World Series title in 2024. The Braves are as loaded as any team in Major League Baseball after returning all five of their core hitters who all hit at least 30 home runs last season.

This includes NL MVP Ronald Acuna who is coming off the first season in Major League Baseball history to hit 40 home runs and steal at least 70 bases (73). Joining Acuna in the Braves lineup includes Austin Riley, Matt Olson, Ozzie Albies, Marcell Ozuna, and Michael Harris Jr.

Meanwhile the Braves pitching staff is loaded including Spencer Strider who ranks among the best starters in all of baseball. The team was also active during the off-season adding Chris Sale to their rotation as well as Matt Carpenter to depth in the lineup.

2. Texas Rangers

What an amazing 2023 MLB season it was for the Texas Rangers after knocking off the Arizona Diamondbacks to win the World Series. Like most of the top teams in baseball the Rangers are a young roster loaded with stars including Adolis Garcia who will look to build on 39 home run and 107 runs batted in season.

Leading that charge of young talent around Garcia is Evan Carter who is expected to compete for the 2024 AL Rookie of the Year award, 26-year-old third baseman Josh Jung who was in the running for the 2023 AL Rookie of the Year Award as well as proven veterans such as Corey Seager and Marcus Semien.

On the mound the Rangers are led by veteran starter Nathan Eovaldi who will look to continue to anchor the rotation while the returns over veterans Max Scherzer and Jacob de Grom deliver the team a strong potential to repeat as World Series Champions.

1. Los Angeles Dodgers

In at number one on the Top 10 MLB Teams 2024 Rankings Preview list is the Los Angeles Dodgers. The same Dodgers team that featured a lineup that included both Mookie Betts and Freddi Freeman continued to get better this off-season with the acquisition of AL MVP Shohei Ohtani.

Ohtani delivers the Dodgers one of the best 3-4-5 middle lineups in baseball history. While Ohtani will not pitch this season the Dodgers are still loaded to compete on the mound with a rotation that should see Walker Buehler return at some point this season.

In addition, the Dodgers added veteran lefty James Paxton and Tyler Glasnow as well as top Japanese star Yoshinobu Yamamoto to round out their rotation making them the best team in MLB right now going into the season.
