A’ja Wilson stays at the top of WNBA players coming into 2026

Coming into 2026 there are a handful of interesting storylines. The Aces begin their quest in another back to back to add to their dynasty. Aja Wilson sits at the top of the WNBA’s throne right now followed by elite and versatile bigs like Napheesa Collier and Alyssa Thomas.

But with the influx of new talent and elite young guards there could be a potential changing of the guard. Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers continue their ascension in the sports best looking to surpass the games best.

With the league getting more and more popular it makes these lists a lot more intriguing. From sharpshooting guards like Allisha Gray to accomplished three level scoring bigs like Breanna Stewart this list encapsulates the growth of the leagues best.

Now, Let’s dive into the rankings early into the 2026 season.

Honorable Mention

Sabrina Ionescu

Team: New York Liberty

Position: Guard

Sabrina Ionescu falls just outside of my top 10, but I get a lot of the argument for her to be in the rankings. In many ways, a pioneer of the sport, and still in the prime of her career, she is in the cream of the crop when it comes to the league’s best guards.

She is one of the more well-rounded guards in the sport and is the second-best player on a Liberty team that will again challenge for a title this year.

Aliyah Boston

Team: Indiana Fever

Position: Center

Aliyah Boston has been every bit of what the Fever thought they would be getting when they drafted her first overall in the 2023 draft. She is one of the most complete bigs in the league, and with Caitlin Clark out last year, I think you really saw the extent of what Boston can do as a facilitator.

She has a good argument for the top 10, and she probably cracks that list at some point.

Top 10 WNBA Players 2026 Rankings

10. Kelsey Plum

Team: Los Angeles Sparks

Position: Guard

Since tearing her Achilles tendon 6 years ago, Kelsey Plum has been one of the more consistent star guards in the league. Now in her second year in LA, Kelsey has again gotten off to an all-star level start and seems to be one of the best guards in the league still.

Assuming she stays healthy, she will most likely make her 5th straight All-Star team, and she now leads an improved Sparks team that could find itself playing playoff basketball when that time comes.

9. Caitlin Clark

Caitlin-Clark-Indiana-Fever

Team: Indiana Fever

Position: Guard

Caitlin Clark missed the majority of last season because of injury, and she has struggled at times to be consistently efficient on offense, but I still think at her best, she may create more offense than anyone in the league.

There can be some questions about her as a 1v1 scorer in the half court, but her passing and long-range shooting make up for it to a degree. She is a generational transition passer and, as a rookie, was legitimately elite as the Fever’s offensive hub.

This list is somewhat a projection of what’s to come in 2026, so I think Clark fully puts it together and can rise up to top 5 on this list. But for right now, she sits at 9.

8. Kelsey Mitchell

Team: Indiana Fever

Position: Guard

Kesley Mitchell enjoyed a career year last season with Caitlin Clark out, and she finished the season as a legit MVP candidate. Kelsey was the best player on a Fever team that made the semi-finals and finished the year with the most points in a single season for the Fever.

Mitchell’s fit next to Clark is outstanding to me with her speed and knock-down shooting ability, and she is able to be a secondary ball handler when Clark is not on the court.

Mitchell has gotten off to an amazing start to this season as well and seems to be in the thick of her prime.

7. Jackie Young

Team: Las Vegas Aces

Position: Guard

With Jackie Young, you are getting one of the best two-way players in the sport, and she has the argument for being one of the best perimeter defenders ever.

Her strength and speed are huge parts of her game on both sides of the ball, and as her career has gone on, she has developed into a reliable shooter and playmaker.

There is no weakness in Jackie Young’s game, and she is one of the more complete guards in the league. She will probably be on her 5th straight All-Star team this season on an Aces team looking to repeat.

6. Paige Bueckers

Team: Dallas Wings

Position: Guard

This may be a little early to have Paige Bueckers this high for some people, but I am confident in her hovering around the top 5 at year’s end. Bueckers ran away with rookie of the year last season and comes into this year with some added muscle.

The Wings should be a playoff team this year, and Bueckers will be leading that charge. Her game as a scorer is so refined, and she is able to do things at her size that make her borderline unstoppable 1v1.

The amount of moves she gets to with her ball handling is a joy to watch, and I think she has a chance at being a first-team all-WNBA performer this year.

5. Allisha Gray

Team: Atlanta Dream

Position: Guard

I have always been high on Allisha Gray, and even though this may be a spot or two too high for people, I think it is perfect for her. Allisha Gray is one of the best shooters in the league and just an overall reliable bucket getter.

Gray is not the loudest or flashiest player and just goes about her business as one of the league’s best. She defends at a high level and is an underrated playmaker. She is the model of consistency, and you often hear people talk about how she should have more awards, but probably doesn’t get them because of her reserved nature.

She is the backbone of the Dream for a multitude of reasons, and she deserves more love as a top 5 player in the league.

4. Breanna Stewart

Breanna Stewart

Team: New York Liberty

Position: Forward

Breanna Stewart missed a chunk of time last year and overall had a down year for her lofty standards.

She had a tough time as a jump shooter and wasn’t able to have the level of consistency we’re used to seeing from her. Last year kind of felt like somewhat of an aberration, and early into 2026, she has proved that.

She has come out of the gates dominant and looks like the 2 time MVP we have grown accustomed to seeing. We can go through the litany of achievements Stewie has for why she is 4th and arguably 3, but that would take all day, and I think most will agree anything below 4 is too low.

3. Alyssa Thomas

Team: Phoenix Mercury

Position: Forward

Since Alyssa Thomas has gotten healthy-ish over the past 5 years, she has consistently been a top 3 player in the WNBA. Post-Achilles injury, she has battled through other injuries and hardly missed games, which is a testament to what she is as a player.

AT is Consistency and toughness personified, and I was really close to putting her at 2 on my list. There are many things Thomas does well, but two things always stand out while watching her. Versatility on the defensive side of the ball and elite passing.

She is a walking triple-double and serves as an offensive hub because of that vision. She is exceptionally strong, almost to the point that it looks like it shocks players. She is a perennial MVP and DPOY candidate and one of the most well-rounded superstars in the sport.

2. Napheesa Collier

Napheesa Collier

Team: Minnesota Lynx

Position: Forward

Napheesa Collier will miss the first month or so of the season, which is why I considered bumping her down this list. Nonetheless, I kept Collier here and expect her to return as her dominant self upon her return.

The Lynx are going through somewhat of a transitional period as a franchise, so it will be interesting to see what they look like with a new look roster when Collier returns. Collier encapsulates what it means to be a three-level scorer. She is a match-up nightmare for bigs, and offense looks really easy for her. She is also an all-world defender with a DPOY under her belt.

Collier hasn’t won an MVP yet, but she has been knocking on that door for multiple years now, and at 29, I’m sure that will come within the next few years. Collier finished last year as the second player to go 50-40-90, averaging over 20 PPG.

1. A’ja Wilson

Aja-Wilson

Team: Las Vegas Aces

Position: Center

Aja Wilson at 1 should not be a surprise, as she is probably the greatest women’s basketball player of all time in the prime of her career. I don’t need to go too in-depth about Aja, but her 4 MVPs, 3 championships, 2 finals MVPs, and 3 DPOYs are as impressive a resume as anyone in American sports before turning 30, and she is constantly adding to her otherworldly resume.

Aja is more than just a dominant athlete, as she is a legitimate pioneer for the sport. Her greatness has transcended what it means to be an influential women’s basketball player, and as her career progresses and the league grows in popularity, Aja will deserve more and more credit.

This was an easy 1 following another Vegas ring last year. Aja will look to add another accolade to a list already full of them.
