The College Football landscape is loaded with talented quarterbacks that took center stage during the 2022 NCAA Football Schedule.

As you start to look around at the Top 10 College Football Quarterbacks January 2023 rankings list, many of the top-rated quarterbacks are high on 2023 NFL Mock Draft boards while a few are either not eligible to enter the NFL draft or have elected to return to school for another chance at winning a National Championship.

Headlining the list of the Top College Football Quarterbacks in 2022 is the USC Trojans sophomore quarterback and 2022 Heisman Trophy Winner Caleb Williams. Williams, who transferred to the Trojans this season put together a solid resume of performance on the field.

However, due to him being only a sophomore,  Williams is eligible for the NFL Draft in 2023 leaving him to return to the Trojans.

In addition to Williams, the list of the Top College Quarterbacks include Bryce Young of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Drake Maye of the North Carolina Tar Heels, and CJ Stroud of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Here is a look at the Top 10 College Football Quarterbacks January 2023 rankings:

Honorable Mention

Jayden Daniels

School: LSU Tigers

NFL Draft Status: Returning to LSU

Just missing the Top 10 College Football Quarterbacks January 2023 rankings is the LSU Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels. Daniels is coming off a strong season with the Tigers after transferring to the program from Arizona State.

The Tigers quarterback threw for 2,913 yards to go with 17 touchdown passes to just three interceptions while also adding 885 yards on the ground and 11 rushing touchdowns.

The dual threat quarterback has the talent to potentially be a solid NFL quarterback however that time will have to wait as Daniels has elected to return for the 2023 NCAA Football schedule.

Tanner McKee

School: Stanford Cardinals

NFL Draft Status: 2023 NFL Draft

One quarterback that will garner the attention of NFL scouts is the Stanford Cardinal Tanner McKee who should be one of the highest rated quarterbacks among the 2023 NFL Draft class.

McKee, who finished his second full season with the Cardinals is coming off a year in which he completed 62 percent of his passes for 2,947 yards to go along with 13 touchdown passes to eight interceptions.

The Cardinal quarterback has tremendous size (6’6”) to go along with solid vision and accuracy as well as arm strength.

Top 10 College Football’s Best Quarterbacks

10. Anthony Richardson

School: Florida Gators

NFL Draft Status: 2023 NFL Draft
2022 Season Stats: 26 TD, 3,203 YDS

Landing at number 10 on the Top 10 College Football Quarterbacks January 2023 rankings list is the Florida Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson.

Richardson, who announced in early December he would forgo the 2023 NCAA Football schedule to enter the NFL draft is a playmaker who can make plays with both his arm and legs.

The dual threat quarterback posted 2,549 yards passing to go along with 17 touchdown passes while taking over as the team’s starting quarterback.

In addition, Richardson added 654 yards on the ground to go along with nine rushing touchdowns. While he lacks accuracy performance to this date, the Gators quarterback has the talent to make up for it with his playmaking abilities.

9. Hendon Hooker

School: Tennessee Volunteers

NFL Draft Status: 2023 NFL Draft
2022 Season Stats: 32 TD, 3,135 YDS

All the tangibles are present when you look at Hendon Hooker on the football field as well as at the quarterback position. Only concern leading into the 2023 NFL draft is due to his ACL tear that he suffered during the 2022 NCAA Football schedule.

Before suffering the tear, Hooker was completing 69.6 percent of his passes for 3,135 yards to go along with 27 touchdowns and just two interceptions.

Hooker, who is on his path to the 2023 NFL Draft is an interesting option at quarterback based on his ability to make plays and throw the ball with accuracy.

However, one concern that may set in for NFL teams is the fact he will be 25 years old before the 2023 NFL draft making him older than some NFL quarterbacks.

8. Will Levis

School: Kentucky Wildcats

NFL Draft Status: 2023 NFL Draft
2022 Season Stats: 21 TD, 2,406 YDS

Despite playing football at a dominant NCAA basketball school, Will Levis helped turn around the Wildcats program while moving up the ranks at the quarterback position.

Levis, who started his first two seasons with the Penn State Nittany Lions, has been great for the Wildcats since transferring before the 2021 NCAA Football season.

In both seasons with the Wildcats, Levis should composure as well as accuracy while completing at least 65 percent of his passes over each season. In all Levis finished the 2022 season with 2,406 passing yards and 19 passing touchdowns.

One of the underrated quarterbacks heading into the 2022 NCAA Football season was the TCU Horned Frogs quarterback Max Duggan.

Despite not being the household name as some of the other top NCAA Football quarterbacks, Duggan was built to succeed, and he showcased that with the team’s explosive run through the regular season as well as the team’s win over the Michigan Wolverines in the NCAA Football Playoffs.

The Horned Frogs quarterback posted his third season with at least 2,000 passing yards while throwing for double digit touchdown totals in each of his four seasons at quarterback.

Duggan finished the 2022 NCAA Football season completing 63.7 passes for 3,546 yards and 32 touchdown passes.

6. Michael Penix Jr.

Another talented quarterback within the college football rankings who will be returning for the 2023 NCAA Football schedule is Michael Penix Jr of the Washington Huskies.

Penix Jr who was expected to be one of the higher rated NFL Draft prospects at the quarterback will return for another season with the team. After arriving in Washington, Penix threw for 4,641 yards to go along with 31 touchdowns to eight interceptions.

The former Auburn Tigers quarterback is coming off his top season passing completing 71.9 percent of his passes for 29 touchdowns to just seven interceptions while adding 3,594 passing yards.

In addition to his tremendous accuracy and ability to throw the football, Nix also adds a potential threat on the ground after rushing for 14 touchdowns with 510 rushing yards this past season.

4. Drake Maye

School: North Carolina Tar Heels

NFL Draft Status: Not eligible for 2023 NFL Draft
2022 Season Stats: 45 TD, 4,321 YDS

Coming off his first full season with the North Carolina Tar Heels, Drake Maye has elevated his status among the quarterback position despite playing in a limited role in 2021.

The Huntersville North Carolina quarterback finished 2022 with 4,321 yards passing on 66.2 percent completion rating while throwing for 38 touchdowns. May also added nearly 700 yards on the ground to go along with seven rushing touchdowns.

3. C.J. Stroud

School: Ohio State Buckeyes

NFL Draft Status: 2023 NFL Draft
2022 Season Stats: 26 TD, 3,203 YDS

When it comes to the Top 3 quarterbacks on the Top 10 College Football Quarterbacks January 2023 rankings, each are well deserving of a top spot including C.J. Stroud.

However only one could land at number one as well as at number two with Stroud taking home the number three spot.

Stroud who led the Buckeyes to multiple trips to the NCAA Football Playoffs will now be a potential Top 10-20 NFL draft pick as one of the highest rated quarterbacks entering the 2023 NFL Draft.

Stroud threw for 3,688 passing yards and 41 touchdowns while completing 66.3 percent of his passes. In the team’s heart-breaking loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl, Stroud threw for 348 yards to go along with four passing touchdowns.

2. Bryce Young

School: Alabama Crimson Tide

NFL Draft Status: 2023 NFL Draft
2022 Season Stats: 32 TD, 3,328 YDS

After winning the Heisman Trophy last season, Bryce Young battled injuries over the course of the 2022 NCAA schedule while still ranking among the best quarterbacks in all of college football.

The Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback falls just behind Caleb Williams as the top overall quarterback in College Football. Over the past two seasons Young threw for 79 touchdowns to just 12 interceptions while also adding seven total rushing touchdowns.

In addition to the 927 total passes over the two-year stretch, Young completed 65.9 percent of his passes while leading the Crimson Tide to the National Championship.

1. Caleb Williams

School: USC Trojans

NFL Draft Status: Not eligible for 2023 NFL Draft
2022 Season Stats: 42 TD, 4,537 YDS

While it is easy to love a few of the other top quarterbacks on the list, ultimately Caleb Williams lands at number one on the Top 10 College Football Quarterbacks January 2023 rankings list.

Williams, who elected to transfer along with his former head coach Lincoln Riley to play for the USC Trojans did not disappoint this season while winning the 2022 Heisman Trophy.

Williams, like Drake Maye’s is not eligible to enter the 2023 NFL Draft will be one of the highest prized quarterbacks in all of college football next season. Williams threw just five interceptions compared to 42 touchdown passes along with 4,537 passing yards.
