Ranking the Women’s Freshman College Basketball Rankings of the 2024-2025 season as Sarah Strong of the Duke Blue Devils leads the way

Who is the best Women’s Freshman College Basketball Player?

The 2024–25 women’s college basketball season has been a showcase of emerging talent, with freshmen making significant impacts across the nation across the entire 2024-2025 Women’s College Basketball season. From breakout performances to clutch plays in high-stakes games, these newcomers have not only met expectations but often exceeded them. As the season progressed, several first-year players distinguished themselves, earning accolades and leading their teams to notable victories. Two of those talented freshmen were Mikalya Blakes of the Vanderbilt Commodores and Sarah Strong of the UConn Huskies who both landed atop the Top 10 Best Women College Basketball Freshmen 2024-2025 Rankings.

At the top of the list of freshmen was Bridges who played at an extremely high level showcasing her athleticism, ball handling skills, shooting abilities and her all around basketball IQ across the 2024-2025 season.

Bridges finished the season leading all incoming freshmen in scoring while averaging 23.3 points per game. Meanwhile Strong was just behind her from her overall production while playing a key role in the Huskies’ run to winning the National Championship.

Joining Bridges and Strong among the best women freshman basketball players from this past season includes Delaney Gibb from the BYU Cougars, Liv McGill from the Florida Gators, and Olivia Olson from the Michigan Wolverines.

Here is a look at the Top 10 Women’s College Basketball Freshmen 2024-2025 Rankings:

Honorable Mention

Gal Raviv

School: Quinnipiac Bobcats

Position: Guard
Previous Ranking: Unranked

As most of the talented freshmen being recognized are playing at big time programs, one talented freshman warranting a spot among the best freshmen list is the Quinnipiac Bobcats guard Gal Raviv.

Raviv, who plays on a much smaller program, put together a strong season while ranking among the top freshman scorers in the country. Over the course of the season the talented guard showcased her strong ball handling skills and basketball IQ while running the Bobcats offense.

The Israel born star averaged 17.9 points per game to go along with 5.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists to go along with 1.4 steals while shooting 44.8 percent from the field.

Coming off the breakout freshmen season, Raviv will now have an opportunity to showcase at a higher level after electing to transfer this off-season to the University of Miami.

Jasmine Bascoe

School: Villanova Wildcats

Position: Guard
Previous Ranking: 7

After arriving with the Villanova Wildcats as a Top 100 recruit among the Class of 2024, Jasmine Bascoe put in the work all season over the course of 34 games putting together one of the top overall seasons among the freshman recruiting class.

Over the course of the 34 games, Bascoe developed into the Wildcats most efficient scorer while leading the team in scoring averaging 16.2 points per game.

The production, however, did not stop there as the talented guard from Milton, Ontario was able to showcase her all around game and fundamentals producing 4.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and nearly two steals per game (1.9).

Bascoe capped off her first season with the Wildcats being selected on the All-Freshman Team as well as First-Team All-Big East while emerging as one of the top guards to watch in the conference entering the 2025-2026 Women’s College Basketball season.

10. Liv McGill

School: Florida Gators

Position: Guard
Previous Ranking: 5

It’s hard to look past the Florida Gators freshman guard Liv McGill as one of the top freshmen performers during the 2024-2024 Women’s College Basketball season.

The top 15 overall recruit from Minneapolis, Minnesota, posted 16.5 points per game over the course of the season while emerging as one of the premier freshmen and young stars in college basketball.

The production did not stop there as McGill was the Gators key ball handler running the team’s offense while producing 5.2 assists per game.

On the opposite end of the floor McGill was a stellar defender posting 2.1 steals per game while slowing down opposing guards.

9. Delaney Gibb

School: BYU Cougars

Position: Guard
Previous Ranking: 4

Another talented freshman coming off a stellar first season is the BYU Cougars Delaney Gibb who entered the 2024-2025 season as the 48th recruit of the incoming group of freshmen.

The Cougars guard finished off her first season averaging 17.4 points per game while producing 10 games over the course of the season scoring at least 20 points in each game.

Over the course of the season the talented Cougars guard shot 45.3 percent from the field and 39.5 percent from behind the three-point line.

In addition to the scoring, Gibb also posted nearly 5 and a half (5.3) rebounds and 4 (4.1) assists while also playing strong defense producing 1 and a half (1.6) steals per game.

8. Kiyomi McMiller

School: Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Position: Guard

Sliding in at number 10 on the Top 10 Women’s College Basketball Freshmen 2024-2025 Rankings list is the talented Rutgers Scarlet Knights guard Kiyomi McMiller.

McMiller arrived with the Scarlet Knights as one of the top recruits of the 2024 recruiting class and one of the solid groups of five-star recruits to arrive in college. 

The Scarlet Knights guard did not disappoint, averaging 18.7 points per game to go along with nearly 5 (4.7) rebounds and three assists while shooting 41.5 percent from the floor.

As a freshman, McMiller posted three 30 plus point performances, seven games with at least 20 points, and failed to reach double figures in just three games in her first season.

7. Syla Swords

School: Michigan Wolverines

Position: Guard
Previous Ranking: 8

Joining teammate and fellow freshman Olivia Olson among the best women freshmen in basketball over the course of the 2024-2025 is the talented guard, Syla Swords.

Swords, who was also a 2024 McDonald’s All-American along with many of the great freshmen on this list, produced at a high level all season along with teammate Olivia Olson.

The talented Wolverines guard capped off her first season shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from behind the three-point line.

The strong shooting helped Swords to average 16 points and 6.2 rebounds per game while also playing strong defense producing 1.2 steals.

The all-around play earned Swords a Second-Team All-Big Ten and Freshman All-American team selections.

6. Jaloni Cambridge

School: Ohio State Buckeyes

Position: gUARD
Previous Ranking: Honorable Mention

When it comes to talented freshmen arriving during the 2024-2025 Women’s College Basketball season, Jaloni Cambridge arrived ranked third among incoming freshmen and as talented as any freshman among the group.

The Ohio State Buckeyes freshman arrived on a very talented team and did not waste any time showcasing her physical skills and ability to not only produce at a high level but lead at a high level.

Over the course of 29 games between the regular season and during the 2025 NCAA Basketball Tournament, Cambridge averaged 15.4 points per game while also adding 4.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and two steals per game.

While the three-point shooting was down at just 31 percent, Cambridge still managed to shoot 42.9 percent from the floor while helping her finish second in the Buckeyes. The strong play on both ends of the floor landed Cambridge the Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors as well as being selected to both the Big Ten All-Freshman team as well as a First Team All-Big Ten selection.

5. Olivia Olson

School: Michigan Wolverines

Position: Guard
Previous Ranking: 9

Rounding out the Top 5 on the Top 10 College Basketball Freshmen 2024-2025 Rankings list is the Michigan Wolverines freshman guard Olivia Olson.

Olson along with fellow freshmen Mila Holloway and Syla Swords delivered the Wolverines a trio of young stars who each produced at least 9.8 points per game, three rebounds, and two assists per game.

Ultimately Olson, who arrived as a Top 15 recruit among the Class of 2024 did not disappoint leading the trio and stepping up as the Wolverines top producer.

The Wolverines freshmen capped off their first season averaging 16.3 points per game to go along with almost 5 and a half (5.3 rebounds, 2 (2.1) assists, and 1 and a half steals (1.4) steals per game.

4. Toby Fournier

School: Duke Blue Devils

Position: Forward
Previous Ranking: Unranked

Just missing the Top 10 Women’s College Basketball Freshmen 2024-2025 Rankings list is the talented Duke Blue Devils forward Toby Fournier.

Fournier like many of the other top freshmen to arrive in college basketball this season with a strong list of accolades including being one of the top recruits according to ESPN, a five-star recruit and also a hype following with her ability to dunk.

Fournier was just as advertised finishing off her freshmen season averaging 13.2 points per game to go along with 5.3 rebounds while shooting 42.9 percent from behind the three-point line and 52.6 from the field.

In addition to her strong play on the offensive end of the floor, the Blue Devils forward averaged 1.1 blocked shots per game and nearly one steal per game (0.8).

3. Joyce Edwards

School: South Carolina Gamecocks

Position: Forward
Previous Ranking: Unranked

Over the years, Dawn Staley has had a knack of finding high quality talented basketball players to fill the South Carolina Gamecocks roster and her top freshman did not disappoint.

A name to add to that list is freshmen Joyce Edwards who put together a strong 2024-2025 season while emerging as a strong weapon all season long.

The former Gatorade National Player of the Year, McDonald’s All-American, and five-star recruit arrived ready to play in her first season taking home Freshmen All-American honors as well as being named to the First-Team All-SEC team.

Over the course of the season, Edwards averaged 12.7 points per game to go along with five rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

2. Mikayla Blakes

School: Vanderbilt Commodores

Position: Guard
Previous Ranking: 3

Mikayla Blakes, who arrived as a top 10 overall recruit and a five star recruit, did not disappoint during their freshman season.

The former McDonald’s All-American finished off her freshmen season leading all freshmen in scoring averaging 23.3 points per game while also finishing eighth among all players.

The former McDonald’s All-American also shot 45.6 percent from the floor and 34.2 percent from behind the three-point line across the season. The production did not stop there as Blakes added 3.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists while also playing solid defense producing 2.4 steals per game.

The strong performance earned the Commodores guard the SEC Freshman of the Year award, a First-Team All-SEC selection as well as being selected as a Third-Team All-American.

The future looks promising for Blakes as she prepares for her sophomore season during the upcoming 2025-2026 season.

1. Sarah Strong

School: UConn Huskies

Position: fORWARD

When it comes to talented freshmen it is hard to look past Sarah Strong of the UConn Huskies. Strong who arrived as the top overall recruit of the Class of 2024 players.

In atop the Top 10 College Basketball Freshmen 2024-2025 Rankings list is the UConn Huskies freshman, Big East Freshman of the Year, Big East All Freshmen selection, and All Big East First Team selection Sarah Strong.

Strong did not disappoint, jumping right into making an impact on the very talented UConn Huskies while turning into the team’s second leading scorer and a key impact player all season. 

The Huskies freshman capped off her freshmen season averaging 16.4 points per game while also adding 8.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.

In addition to a strong presence on the offensive end of the floor, Strong was stellar on the defensive end of the floor producing 2.3 steals per game and 1.7 blocked shots per game.
