Top 10 Women’s College Basketball Small Forwards 2024 Rankings

Ranking the best NCAA Women’s College Basketball Small Forwards of 2024 with names such as Aneesah Morrow, Rickea Jackson, and more

The landscape of Women’s College Basketball is universal as many if not most of the top teams in the country use the best five players available while running a combination of guards and forwards with a center. With this approach many of the top small forwards can shoot among the best shooting guards in the country while also playing a power game to keep up with the top power forwards in the country. One of those small forwards landing atop the Top 10 Women’s College Basketball Small Forwards Rankings is the LSU Tigers Aneesah Morrow.

Morrow is just one of multiple LSU Tigers stars making a run for hardware this season including repeating as National Champions. The Tiger’s star is also in the running to take home the Cheryl Miller Award for the best small forward in Women’s College Basketball.

While Morrow continues to put together a strong junior season, the Tigers star is joined among the Top 10 Women’s College Basketball Small Forwards Rankings list by the Murray State Racers Katelyn Young, the Minnesota Golden Gophers Mara Braun, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Termira Poindexter, and the Tennessee Lady Volunteers Rickea Jackson.

Honorable Mention

Yarden Garzon

School: Indiana Hoosiers

Just missing the Top 10 Best Women’s College Basketball Small Forwards Rankings list is the Indiana Hoosiers small forward Yarden Garzon. The talented small forward from Ra’anana, Israel has been a staple within the Hoosiers lineup since arriving as a freshman last season.

In twenty-six games this season, Garzon has been solid on both ends of the floor while showcasing her ability to shoot the basketball. The six-foot three inch forward has shot 48 percent from the field this season while also connecting on 45.9 percent of her three-point attempts.

The success on the offensive end of the floor shooting has helped Garzon average 11.8 points per game. Meanwhile two-year starter has added 4.2 rebounds per game to go along with 3.2 assists for an incredibly talented Hoosier’s lineup.

McKenzie Forbes

School: USC Trojans 

As you start to look around at some of the top talented teams in all of Women’s College Basketball it is hard to look past all the talent the Trojans have suited up each game.

One of those talented stars is senior small forward McKenzie Forbes who has put together a strong first season with the team after transferring in after spending the last two years with the Harvard Crimson.

Through twenty-four games this season Forbes is averaging 13.3 points per game while also adding 3.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.

10. Kiki Jefferson

School: Louisville Cardinals 

Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 Women’s College Basketball Small Forwards Rankings list is the Louisville Cardinals small forward Kiki Jefferson.

As the Cardinals current sit ranked 20th among the AP Top 25 Women’s Basketball Teams rankings, success that starts with one of four players who are currently averaging at least ten points per game this season. That player is Jefferson who currently leads the team in scoring averaging 13.3 points per game.

Meanwhile the senior small forward has also been a key contributor on both ends of the floor including posting 1.4 steals while making it difficult for opposing small forwards to attack the rim. 

9. Jordan King

School: Marquette Golden Eagles 

Another talented small forward putting together a strong 2023-2024 Women’s College Basketball season is Jordan King of the Marquette Golden Eagles.

The five-foot 11-inch small forward is capping off a five-year run with the team while starting in 148 of the 150 games she played in over that stretch. The fifth-year senior continues to find success this season averaging 13.4 points per game tog o along with 4.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game.

On the opposite end of the floor King has also added solid play adding four of her nearly five steals on the defensive glass to go along with 1.3 steals per game.

8. Madison Booker

School: Texas Longhorns 

When you are looking for a talented player at any position, you start with someone who can do it all and that is the case with the talented Texas Longhorns Freshman Madison Booker.

Booker who is from Ridgeland, Mississippi has done it all for the Longhorns this season from posting 1.4 steals per game and playing strong defense to shooting 45.3 percent from the field while averaging 15.8 points per game.

Even more impressive has been Booker’s ability to get her teammates involved while helping to run the team’s offense all season.

Through twenty-seven games this season Booker has added four assists per game while also playing a key role in the Longhorns success on the glass while averaging nearly five rebounds per game (4.9). 

7. Cotie McMahon

School: Ohio State Buckeyes 

One team looking to make a deep run during the Women’s College Basketball Championship and during March Madness is the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Currently one of the hottest teams in the country, the Buckeyes are riding a 13-game winning streak with wins over two Ap Top 25 ranked opponents over that stretch. One of the teams talented playmakers all season has been the sophomore small forward Cotie McMahon.

McMahon enters the final week of February ranked second on the Buckeyes in scoring while averaging 14.1 points per game and first in rebounding while averaging 6.5 rebounds per game. To go along with that success McMahon has also added 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game. 

6. Alyssa Ustby

School: North Carolina Tar Heels 

The North Carolina Tar Heels senior small forward enters the final few weeks of the regular season just missing averaging a double double after averaging just 9.7 rebounds per game to start the season.

Nonetheless it is hard to look past the Tar Heels success this season without looking at the production Alyssa Ustby has contributed all season. The senior senior small forward has posted her third straight season averaging at least twelve points per game and eight rebounds.

Over her first twenty-seven games this season Ustby has averaged 12.7 points per game and 9.7 rebounds while also being one of the leaders of the team on the defensive end of the floor.

The six-foot one inch forward from Rochester, Minnesota is as talented defensively as any small forward while using her solid size and length to post 1.4 blocked shots and 1.7 steals per game.

5. Katelyn Young

School: Murray State Racers 

Rounding out the Top 5 on the Top 10 Best Women’s College Basketball Small Forwards Rankings list is the Murray State Racers. While the Racers may often get overlooked among the best Women’s College Basketball teams in the country, it is hard to look past the success Katelyn Young has had this season while helping the team to a 16-8 record on the season.

Young who have been a four-year starter for the Racers has posted her fourth straight season shooting at least 50 percent from the field (50.1). Through that success the senior forward has averaged 19.5 points per game this season to go along with 2.3 assists while also adding just over eight rebounds per game (8.1).

Over the first twenty-four games of the season, Young has posted ten games with at least twenty points scored including two games with at least thirty-one points scored.

4. Mara Braun

School: Minnesota Golden Gophers

Another talented all around great small forward is the Minnesota Golden Gophers sophomore Mara Braun. Braun who is in the midst of her second season with the Golden Gophers has pushed her performance to another level this season while achieving career highs in scoring (17.8), rebounding (4.6), assists (3.2), and steals (1.7).

While Braun does not dominate in one area specifically, the six-foot small forward does a little bit everything each night while playing as a key role player for the Golden Gophers.

Over the course of the season Braun has posted five games with at least twenty points and five rebounds while also adding eight 20-point games.

3. Rickea Jackson

School: Tennessee Lady Volunteers 

As the Tennessee Lady Volunteers get set for their final three contest of the regular season including difficult matchups against both the LSU Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks, one player looking to help lead the team to a strong finish is Rickea Jackson.

Jackson who is a candidate to take home the 2024 Cheryl Miller Award for the best small forward in Women’s College Basketball. Jackson made transferred in last season after spending her first three seasons with the Mississippi State Bulldogs, is looking to finish strong after averaging nineteen points per game over her first seventeen games of the season (18.9).

Meanwhile the Lady Volunteers star who ranks among the team leaders in multiple stats has also added 7.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists on the year while shooting 46.6 percent from the field.

2. Termira Poindexter

School: Tulsa Golden Hurricane

When it comes to the top two small forwards in Women’s College Basketball both Termira Poindexter and Aneesah Morrow are well deserving of the honor. Ultimately only one player could take home the top spot with Poindexter landing at number two.

The junior small forward is enjoying the best season of her three-year career with the Tulsa Golden Hurricane while averaging 20.5 points per game over her first twenty-seven games of the season.

After averaging at least twelve points in each of the previous two seasons, the third-year star has improved her all around shooting performance while connecting on 41.5 percent of her shots from the field.

The success does not stop their as Poindexter is talented on the defensive end of the floor as well while using her size to limit shot selections. 

1. Aneesah Morrow

School: LSU Tigers

In at number one on the Top 10 Women’s College Basketball Small Forwards Rankings list is the LSU Tigers Aneesah Morrow. The Tigers who are as loaded as any team in the country landed Morrow in the transfer portal this off-season after watching her dominate the previous two seasons with the DePaul Blue Demons.

After averaging at least twenty-one points in each of the previous two seasons, Morrow has seen her average drop to just 17.1 points per game however, her all around game has bene strong while bringing her leadership abilities to a Tigers team looking to repeat as National Champions.

The Tigers small forward has also added sixteen double doubles on the season including a dominating sixteen rebounds to go along with thirty-seven points in the team’s impressive win over the Virginia Cavaliers back in November.
