Top 10 College Basketball Shooting Guards 2022 Rankings

Ranking the best NCAA Shooting Guards of 2022 with names such as Ochai Agbaji, Jaden Ivey, Johnny Juzang and more

The guard position continues to evolve in both the College and NBA levels while seeing point guards with the abilities to score while shooting guards have evolved into players who can manage the offense while showing their ability to shoot from nearly every portion of the hardwood. 

With the 2021-2022 group of shooting guards, many of these top players have the ability to run either the point or shooting guard spot while playing a key role in their team’s success in March Madness and possibly the Final Four this season. 

One of these shooting guards is Ochai Agbaji from the Kansas Jayhawks who leads all shooting guards within the Top 10 College Basketball Shooting Guards in 22 rankings. Agbaji is one of the best shooters in the country while also having the ability to play against any program in the country. Meanwhile the list of top shooting guards also includes the likes of Buddy Boeheim, Johnny Juzang, Jaden Ivey and Taevion Kinsey. 

With that said, here is our list of the Top 10 Best Shooting Guards in College Basketball in 2022. 

Honorable Mention

Isaiah Wong

School: Miami Hurricanes

The sophomore guard from Piscataway, New Jersey is as good as any shooting guard in the country. However, with a deep list of talented shooting guards making the Top 10 Isaiah Wong from the Miami Hurricanes finds himself just outside of the group. 

On the year, Wong is averaging 16.7 points a game to go along with 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists. While his production has dropped from last year, Wong is still a threat to score any time he has the ball as he has posted at least 12 points in all but one game this season. 

Matt Bradley

School: San Diego State Aztecs

Another shooting guard coming in just outside of the Top 10 is the San Diego State Aztecs senior guard Matt Bradley. Bradley, who is averaging 15.1 points a game to go along with five rebounds and 2.1 assists per game has helped guide his Aztecs team to a 10-4 mark on the year despite posting his lowest points totals since his freshman season. 

Nonetheless, Bradley has shown at times his ability to take over games including his 26 point and seven rebound performance against 20th ranked Colorado State back on January 8th, 2022. Through 99 career games, Bradley is a 43.1% career shooter from the field and 38.9% from three point territory. 

Top 10 College Shooting Guards

10. Eric Ayala

School: Maryland Terps

With the inconsistencies that have shown up for the Maryland Terps and the eventual change at head coach, Eric Ayala is one player who has had difficulty putting together consistent numbers night in and night out. 

However, Ayala has still managed to average 15.9 points a game to go along with 4.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game this season. On the year Ayala has six games with at least 20 points while leading the Terps in scoring and is just one of three Terps to average double figures this season. 

9. De’Vion Harmon

School: Oregon Ducks

The Oregon Ducks are hot off late winning six straight games after dropping a disappointing 78-70 contest against the top ranked Baylor Bears back on December 18th. Over that stretch, the Ducks knocked the 3rd ranked UCLA Bruins and the 5th ranked USC Trojans before beating Washington 84-56. 

One consistent performer for the team is De’Vion Harmon who has scored at least 10 points in four of those six straight wins. On the year, Harmon is averaging 10.4 points to go along with 2.4 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game. On the year, Harmon is shooting 41.7% from the floor and 37.7% from three point territory.

8. Jared Rhoden

School: Seton Hall Pirates

Jared Rhoden is one shooting guard who has the potential to be a game changer down the stretch and one that may hear have the chance to play at the next level. Rhoden is averaging 40.7% from the field this year while averaging a career high 15.9 points a game to go along with 6.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contests. 

Rhoden has the ability to take the ball to the hoop on any position and has the physical tools to battle on the glass while giving his Seton Hall Pirates additional opportunities to score on each possession. Rhoden has scored at least 15 points in nine of his first 16 games this season.

7. Justin Moore

School: Villanova Wildcats

Possibly one of the best programs in all of College Basketball and a potential NCAA tournament favorite, the Villanova Wildcats are loaded with talent including at the shooting guard position led by junior Justin Moore. Moore, who has continued to improve year in and year out, has boosted his scoring average to 15.8 points a game this year while shooting 43.5% from the field and 38.9% from behind the three point line. 

Moore has posted at least 15 points in four of the teams last five games while the team has posted a 4-1 record over that stretch including a key 64-60 win against 17th ranked Xavier. In that win, Moore scored 19 points to go along with nine rebounds and two assists.

6. Jaden Shackelford

School: Alabama Crimson Tide

The Alabama Crimson Tide have rolled to a 13-6 record this season while ranking near the top of the SEC conference. Much of that success is led by Jaden Shackelford as well as Jahvon Quinerly. Shackelford is averaging 16.9 points a game this season to go along with 5.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. 

Over the team’s last two wins, Shackelford has scored 47 points to go along with 11 rebounds and three assists while scoring at least 20 points in each contest. The two 20 point games push his total to six on the year while the Crimson Tide have a 5-1 record in those contests.

5. Buddy Boeheim

School: Syracuse Orange

Buddy Boeheim enters his final year with the Syracuse Orange, a team his father Jim Boeheim used to coach. The senior shooting guard is averaging a career high 18.6 points a game to go along with career highs in both rebounds (3.7) and assists (3.5). While his three point percentage has dropped this year to a career low 33.1 %, Boeheim is still one of the best shooters in the country and one that has to be watched when the ball is in his hands. 

On the year, Boeheim has four games with at least four three pointers made and four games with at least three pointers made. In addition, Boeheim has posted nine different games scoring at least 20 points this season and six different games shooting at least 42% from three point territory.

4. Johnny Juzang

School: UCLA Bruins

Coming in at number four on the Top 10 College Basketball Shooting Guards in 2022 is the UCLA Bruins star Johnny Juzang. While Juzang currently sits at number four on the list, his play making abilities could help him rise the board as the season closes out. Juzang, who is in his junior season with the team, is a potential lottery draft pick in the upcoming 2022 NBA Draft. 

Through 15 games this season, Juzang is averaging 18.3 points a game to go with five rebounds and 1.8 assists while seeing his scoring total increase to 19.7 per game at home. Over his last three games, Juzang has averaged 25 points a game while the Bruins have won each contest to push their record to 13-2 on the year.

3. Jaden Ivey

School: Purdue Boilermakers

As one of the top teams in the country, Jaden Ivey of the Purdue Boilermakers is one of the top shooting guards in all of College Basketball. The sophomore guard from South Bend, Indiana is averaging 16.7 points a game to go along with five rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.2 steals per contest. 

On the year, Ivey is a 48.5% shooter from the field and a 42.4% shoot from behind the three point line. In five games this season when Ivey has posted at least 20 points, the Boilermakers have won four of those contests. In addition, Ivey has posted at least 10 points in all but one game this season.

2. Taevion Kinsey

School: Marshall Thundering Herd

If you’re looking for one of the best pure shooters and play makers in all of college basketball, Taevion Kinsey from the Marshall Thundering Herd is your man. The six foot five shooting guard from Columbus, Ohio is averaging a career high 20.8 points topping his career high of 19.5 points set last season. 

In addition, Kinsey is a two way player who can also run the team’s offense, play defense and hit the boards. Through 19 games this season, Kinsey is also averaging 5.5 rebounds to go along with a career high 4.2 assists per game. On the year, Kinsey has 12 games with at least 20 points and two games with at least 30 points.

1. Ochai Agbaji

School: Kansas Jayhawks

The success of the Kansas Jayhawks inside the Big 12 this season is much to do with the talented roster that has been constructed. One of those members of the talented roster is Ochai Agbaji who has the skills to be a playmaker at the next level. The senior shooting guard is averaging 20.4 points a game this season to go along with 4.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists while helping the Jayhawks to a 16-2 overall record. 

Agbaji has posted 11 games with at least 20 points this season including a season high 29 points in the team’s 78-75 win over Kansas State back on January 22nd, 2022. For the Jayhawks to make a deep run in 2021-22, Ochai Agbaji must continue to perform as the Top Shooting Guard in College Basketball.
