Top 10 College Basketball Players – January 2022 Rankings

Ranking the best NCAA Men’s college basketball players of January 2022 as Kofi Cockburn of the Fighting Illini moves up the rankings

The 2021-22 NCAA Basketball season rolls into January 2022 with the March Madness NCAA Tournament getting closer. There has been some exciting basketball taking to the hardwood night in and night out.

At the head of that excitement is some of the best college basketball players in the World as they deliver key impact night in and night out for their teams as they compete for a chance to make a run at an NCAA Championship.

As you look around the NCAA, the game is filled with so much talent from athletic explosive point guards who can take over a game to powerful dominant big men who control the flow and potential outcome of the game. 

One of those talented stars is the Iowa Hawkeyes sophomore forward Keegan Murray who leads all NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball players in scoring this season.  Meanwhile other Top 10 NCAA BB Players include Kofi Cockburn, Johnny Davis, Dereon Seabron.

 

 

With that said, here is our list of the Top 10 NCAA Men’s College Basketball Players:

Honorable Mention

Fardaws Aimaq

School: Utah Valley Wolverines

One player who continues to put in the work this season is the Utah Valley Wolverines junior center Fardaws Aimaq. Through his first 15 games this season, Aimaq is averaging 19.7 points a game to go along with 13.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists per contest. Over his last three games Aimaq has scored 62 points, 43 rebounds, eight assists and 10 blocks with the Wolverines winning two of those three contests. 

Trevion Williams

School: Purdue Boilermakers

After a strong start to the college basketball season that saw the Purdue Boilermakers reach number on the AP Men’s Basketball rankings. Since then the Boilermakers have had a roller coaster of a ride losing to Rutgers in the Basketball Hall of Fame Invitational before winning five of their next six contests with their only loss coming against Wisconsin. 

On the year, Williams is averaging 13.5 points a game to go along with 8.8 rebounds and three assists.  Williams has shown at times this year including on Saturday in the team’s 74-67 win over Penn State.

10. Wendell Moore Jr.

School: Duke Blue Devils

The Duke Blue Devils continue to roll as they have pushed their record on the year to 12-2 with impressive wins over Gonzaga, Ohio State and Kentucky. One of the Blue Devils key weapons is Wendell Moore Jr who is averaging 16 points a game to go along with 5.9 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. On the year Moore has posted at least 18 points in six games this season while also posting one triple double.

9. Johnny Juzang

School: UCLA Bruins

Coming in at number nine on the Top 10 NCAA BB players list is the UCLA Bruins junior guard Johnny Juzang. Juzang who came onto the National scene during the Bruins impressive March Madness run. 

That success has shown up this year as the Bruins star is averaging 16 points a game to go along with 4.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists. Over his last five games, Juzang has posted double digit points in four of those five contests while the Bruins have won four of those five contests.

8. Dereon Seabron

School: NC State Wolfpack

If you are looking for a rising star around college basketball and a potential top 15 NBA pick, Dereon Seabron is the man to follow. The NC State Wolfpack sophomore guard is 21st in the country in scoring averaging 20.1 points per game and 17th in the country in rebounding averaging 9.8 rebounds per game. 

Over his last three games Seabron has scored 80 points to go along with 24 rebounds, 13 assists and one blocked shot. On the year Seabron has eight games with at least 20 points to go along with nine double doubles this season.

7. Paolo Banchero

School: Duke Blue Devils

Heading into the 2021-22 college hoops schedule, Paolo Banchero was one of the top freshmen entering college and one player that was on the list of many of the preseason awards. Banchero has not disappointed this season for the Duke Blue Devils and their fans averaging 17.3 points a game to go along with 7.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. 

The freshman has posted two double doubles while scoring at least 10 points in all 14 games he has played in this season while topping at least 20 points in five different games.

6. Alondes Williams

School: Wake Forest Demon Deacons

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are red hot to start the season winning 13 of their first 16 games this season including back to back games within the Atlantic Coastal Conference (ACC) to push their record within the conference to 3-2.  Much of their success comes from senior guard Alondes Williams who continues to impress in his final year on the floor. 

Williams is averaging 20.4 points a game to go along with 6.7 rebounds and 5.1 assists. Over their last five games, Williams has posted 109 points to go along with 36 rebounds and 29 assists as the team has posted a 3-2 record.

5. Michael Devoe

School: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Coming in at number five on the Top 10 NCAA BB Players is the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets star senior guard Michael Devoe. Devoe is putting together his best season after averaging 16 points as a sophomore and 15 points as a junior. 

The senior guard is averaging 21.1 points a game this season to go along with 5.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Despite his success, the Yellow Jackets have had their hands full this season winning just six of their first 14 games. 

4. Drew Timme

School: Gonzaga Bulldogs

One name that is high on the potential NBA Draft boards is the junior Gonzaga Bulldogs forward Drew Timme. Timme, who nearly guided the Bulldogs to a perfect record during the 2020-21 season, is now looking to help the Bulldogs to a National title after failing to succeed last season in the Final Four. 

Timme is averaging 16.8 points a game to go along with 5.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Over his last five games, Timme is averaging 14.6 points a game to go along with 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists while the Bulldogs have won all five games. His production on the floor has helped the Bulldogs to a 12-2 record and the number two ranking in the AP Men’s College Basketball Top 25 rankings.

3. Johnny Davis

School: Wisconsin Badgers

The success of any Top 25 team revolves around the talent that takes to the hardwood night in and night out. The same can be said for the Wisconsin Badgers who are 13-2 this season and ranked 13th on the year. Their latest success comes as the team has won five straight games including a prime 74-69 win over a Purdue Boilermakers team ranked third in the country. 

The team’s success over this stretch has come from the play of their sophomore guard Johnny Davis. Davis who is averaging 22.3 points a game this season and 7.4 rebounds is nearly unstoppable. In the team’s 37 point win against the Boilermakers, Davis scored 37 points to go along with 14 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals. 

2. Kofi Cockburn

School: Illinois Fighting Illini

Coming in just behind Keegan Murray as the second best player in the country is the Illinois Fighting Illini junior center Kofi Cockburn. Cockburn who is putting together his best season in college basketball while moving his name up the 2022 NBA draft board. Cockburn is averaging 22.5 points a game to go along with 12.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. 

Over his last four games, Cockburn has scored at least 21 points per game while posting at least 10 rebounds per game. In the team’s key win over the Maryland Terps, Cockburn scored 23 points and 18 points to help push their record to 11-3 on the year.

1. Keegan Murray

School: Iowa Hawkeyes

When looking around college basketball it is simple to understand how the Iowa Hawkeyes star is the top player in the country night in and night out. Keegan Murray leads the country in scoring averaging 24.7 points a game to go along with 7.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. Murray and the Iowa Hawkeyes currently sit at 11-4 including wins over Virginia and Maryland. 

Over their last five games, Murray has averaged 29.2 points a game to go along with eight rebounds, one assists, two blocked shots and 1.4 steals in each game. On the year, Murray has 11 games with at least 20 points, eight games with at least 25 and two games with 35 points. Murray is currently the best player in the country and the potential top pick in the 2022 NBA draft.
