Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games

The countdown to the 2024 Summer Olympics in France continues as the excitement level builds around the world. One of those sports set to take center stage in France is the FIBA men’s basketball which continues to rank among the top overall Summer Olympic sport each season. As you start to look at the current eight teams that have locked up a spot this summer on a worldwide stage, many great teams are locked in. One of those teams is Team USA as they look to bring home yet another gold medal in basketball. The team’s loaded roster of NBA stars lands the team at number one on the Top 10 Olympic Basketball Team World Rankings 2024 list.

Who Will Be On The 2024 Men’s Olympic Basketball Team?

Entering the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics the United States Men’s Basketball roster is loaded with talent to include LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Joel Embiid, and Jayson Tatum to name a few. With a loaded roster of NBA All-Stars, Team USA heads into the Olympics as the early favorite to take home their 17th Gold Medal. Joining the United States among the top Olympic men’s basketball teams include Serbia who is led by Nikola Jokic.

While the complete Team USA roster is yet to be set, the expectations are that many of the top players in the world such as LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and Anthony Davis are set to take the stage. With a loaded roster of top tier NBA talent, Team USA is set to be the early favorite heading into the 2024 Summer Olympic Games

Honorable Mention

Greece

Group: Unqualified

Just missing the Top 10 Olympic Basketball Team Rankings 2024 list is Greece who will be as dangerous as any team in the Olympics if they find a way to take home the top spot during the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Greece in early July 2024.

After being without former NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo during the 2023 FIBA World Cup, the Greek Freak is expected to be healthy and ready to lead Greece back to the Olympics as well as a run at the gold medal.

While the road to the Olympics being tough including a key matchup against Luka Doncic and Slovenia, the roster with the freak present has the potential to compete in any matchup.

Potentially joining Giannis in summer includes Dinos Mitoglou, Kostas Papanikolaou, Kostas Antetokounmpo, and Giorgos Papagiannis.

Lithuania

Group: Unqualified

Another strong Men’s Basketball team looking to qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics and make a run at a gold medal is Lithuania. Lithuania who is set to compete for a qualifying bid at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Puerto Rico in early July 2024.

Such as Greece, Lithuania was without one of their star players Domantas Sabonis who missed the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

However, with a spot to the Olympics on the line Sabonis will be back this summer while forming a strong big man duo with fellow NBA player Jonas Valanciunas.

Sabonis is a dynamic all around player that can do it all as a big man including running the team’s offense and finding open teammates. Other notable players expected to play this summer include Rokas Jokubaitis, Marius Grigonis, Ignas Brazdeikis, and Tomas Dimsa. 

Top 10 Olympic Basketball Team Rankings 2024

10. Slovenia

Group: Unqualified

Taking home the final spot on the Top 10 Olympic Basketball Rankings 2024 list is Slovenia who will be looking to earn a spot into the Olympics this summer.

After watching their qualifying dreams end with a loss to Canada during the World Cup last summer, Luka Doncic will look to bounce back in a difficult qualifying tournament in early July featuring five other teams looking to qualify including Greece.

Nonetheless it is hard to look past the potential of Slevenis with Doncic on the floor. Doncic is a game changer on the offensive side of the floor and a point guard that has the talent to take over any game and do nearly anything with the basketball in his hand. Doncic will be joined this summer by Ziga Sama, Gregor Glas, Vlatko Cancar, Ziga Dimec, and Jaka Blazic.

9. Spain

Group: Unqualified

Possibly one of the most talented teams listed among the ranked teams competing at the Summer Olympics is Spain who will need to play well during the FIBA Qualifying tournament in early July 2024 in Spain.

Spain, who is ranked second within FIBA, is a dangerous team that has shown the ability to knock off high caliber teams at various times over the past few Summer Olympics as well as within the FIBA World CUP and EuroBasket championships.

Led by a mixture of solid players who can play solid basketball on each side of the floor including Willy Hernangomez and Dario Brizuela as well as the long-time veteran Ricky Rubio.

Spain will need to take care of business in July against a group of teams to include the improving Bahamas as well as Finland and Poland.

8. Japan

Group B

The final of the eight teams that have already qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics is team Japan who is one of the quickest and fastest constructed rosters entering tournament play this summer.

Leading the charge for Japan is a trio of players who put together strong performances during the FIBA World Cup to include Joshua Hawkinson who averaged 21 points per game while Yuta Watanabe and Yuki Kawamura were equally impressive.

On the defensive end of the floor speed and stamina played a key role securing a berth holding back-to-back opponents to 77 or fewer points. Other potential players joining team Japan in France include Keisei Tominaga, Shuta Hara, Makoto Hiejima, and Yuki Togashi. 

7. South Sudan

Group C

One of the team’s not recognized and as well known as other team’s competing within the 2024 Summer Olympics in France is South Sudan. South Sudan who shocked many by qualifying for the African Qualifiers are making big strides while looking to deliver their first medal showing later this summer.

Despite lacking the talent and known names as most of the other larger countries, South Sudan has a solid constructed roster to include current NBA players Carlik Jones and Wenyen Gabriel as well as the team’s captain Kuany Kuany.

In addition to those players the team includes Marial Shayok, Emmanuel Akot, Mangok Mathiang, and Nuni Omot. Will the bright lights of the Olympic be too much or can South Sudan continue to gel as a roster to compete.

6. Australia

Group A

The Australia Men’s National Basketball team is loaded with former NBA players looking to deliver excitement and a potential medal to their country this summer in France.

One of those players is the long-time veteran Matthew Dellavedova who has put together a solid career within the league. Joining Dellavedova is up and coming young star of the Oklahoma City Thunder Josh Giddey.

Gidey put together a strong 2023 FIBA World Cup performance averaging 20.5 points to go along with 5.8 rebound and 6.5 assists per game while emerging as the face of the Australia roster.

Joining Giddey on the roster could include the likes of Patty Mills, Dante Exum, and Josh Green who all have experience playing in the NBA.

5. Canada

Group A

Rounding out the Top 5 teams landing on the Top 10 Olympic Basketball Team Rankings 2024 list is Canada who is also an exceptionally talented basketball team headlined by NBA MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Gilgeous-Alexander is as dynamic as any player in the NBA at this point and one of the top scoring threats in the game. Alongside Gilgeous-Alexander will include another talented point guard in Jamal Murray who is also a stellar guard who can help run the team’s offense.

Behind the talented depth, Canada highlighted their potential defeating Team USA to capture the bronze medal at the 2023 FIBA World Championship. Other potential stars joining team Canada in France include Dwight Powell, Luguentz Dort, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and Cory Joseph.

4. Germany

Group B

One of the sleeper basketball teams entering the 2024 Summer Olympics is Germany who will look to extend their medal streak this summer.

After finishing with a bronze medal during the FIBA EuroBasket 2022 championship, Germany shocked all, winning the gold medal at the 2023 FIBA World Cup including knocking off Team USA in the Semi-Finals before Serbia in the Championship Game.

Entering the Summer Olympics, Germany will have a challenging task at hand with more star power on each of those squads, however Dennis Schroder has demonstrated he has the talent and skill level to carry the load for Germany.

Potentially joining Schroder in France includes Franz Wagner, Daniel Theis, Johanne Thiemann, Johannes Voitmann, Andi Obst, Moritz Wagner, and Maodo Lo. 

3. France

Group B

After watching a stellar rookie season from France star Victor Wembanyama, it is easy to see the excitement built around the France basketball team as the Olympics are set to arrive in France this summer.

Wembanyama capped off a stellar rookie season averaging 21.4 points per game and 10.6 rebounds while potentially earning him the NBA’s Rookie of the Year Award.

Playing alongside Wembanyama will be the NBA veteran Rudy Gobert delivering France one of the best defensive down low units in the NBA and two players who have had a history of defending down low and around the basket.

Joining those two big men include potential players such as Nicolas Batum, Moustapha Fall, Evan Fournier, Nando de Colo, and Yakuba Ouattara. 

2. Serbia

Group C

Group C is loaded with a talented set of teams including Serbia who will look to take over the group led by NBA MVP Nikola Jokic. Serbia who finished runner’s up at the 2023 FIBA World Championship is a talented team who were without Jokic during the team.

Jokic is as dominant as any player set to take the hardwood during the Olympics while being a player who can do it all from scoring, attacking the glass, and finding open teammates.

Alongside Jokic will be a strong cast of players including Bogdon Bogdanovic who was vital in the team’s success last year.

While the final roster is yet to be set, those two stars are set to be joined by other players including Vasilije Micic, Nikola Milutinov, Ognjen Drobic, Nikola Jovic, Filip Petrusev, and Stefan Jovic. 

1. United States

Group C

In at number one on the Top 10 Olympic Basketball Team Rankings 2024 list is the United States. Team USA enters the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics looking to win their 17th gold medal including their fifth straight since taking home the bronze medal during the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.

Looking at a roster loaded with talent the United States has big time players across each position led by LeBron James who continues to dominate on the hardwood.

In addition to James, the United States has a strong group of shooters who can shoot from behind the three-point line including Devin Booker and Stephen Curry.

Rounding out the roster includes the likes of Kevin Durant, Joel Emibiid, Anthony Davis, Anthony Edwards, Jayson Tatum, Jrue Holiday, Bam Adebayo, and Tyrese Haliburton.
