NBA Fantasy Draft Preview 2023-2024

The 2023-2024 NBA season is just around the corner increasing the buzz around fantasy basketball as the season approaches. While much of the anticipation and fantasy draft hype is built around the top stars of the NBA, the opportunity to land the next big star will be there with the incoming 2023 NBA Draft Class. This includes fantasy owners participating in NBA dynasty fantasy leagues who might have limited opportunities to land one of the top stars within the league. After watching the season Paolo Banchero put together during his rookie season, some of the top rookies landing on the Top 10 Fantasy Basketball Rookie Rankings 2023-2024 Preview list have potential to duplicate his success this season.

One of those rookies is the San Antonio Spurs first overall NBA Draft pick Victor Wembanyama headlines the list of rookies. The 7 foot 3 inch big man has a strong all around game including the ability to shoot from the outside, strong court vision, and the potential to dominate on the glass as well as being a strong shot blocker.

Meanwhile, former second overall pick Chet Holmgren will be making a strong push to compete with Wembanyama for the NBA Rookie of the Year award after missing all last season. Other top 2023 NBA rookies landing among the best fantasy basketball rookies this season include Scoot Henderson, Gradey Dick, and Brandon Miller.

Here is a look at the Top 10 NBA Fantasy Basketball Rookie Rankings 2023-2024 Preview:

Honorable Mention

Jett Howard

Team: Orlando Magic

Position: Guard

Just missing the Top 10 NBA Fantasy Rookie Rankings 2023-2024 Preview is the Orlando Magic guard Jett Howard. Howard, who is the son of former NBA player Juwan Howard will look to continue his success going on the hardwood during his rookie season in the NBA.

Playing alongside 2022-2023 NBA Rookie of the Year Paolo Banchero should open up his scoring opportunities while helping to build a young nucleus in Orlando.

In his only season in college Howard posted 14.2 points per game to go along with nearly three rebounds (2.8) and two assists per game. The 20 year old guard has the talent and upside to develop into a strong guard in the NBA for years to come.

Jaime Jaquez Jr.

Team: Miami Heat

Position: Guard

Another 2023 NBA Draft pick just missing the list of the best fantasy basketball rookies entering the upcoming season is the Miami Heat guard Jaime Jaquez.

While Jaquez is dealing with a groin injury that will limit him during the preseason, his upside during his rookie season makes him a dangerous fantasy basketball option for a team needing to fill a hole.

On paper Jaquez Jr continued to develop each season since arriving with the ULCA Bruins back during the 2019-2020 NCAA basketball season. The Bruins guard is coming off a season in which he set career highs in scoring (17.8 ppg), assists (2.4 apg), and rebounding (8.2 rpg).

Top 10 Fantasy Basketball Rookie Rankings

10. Trayce Jackson-Davis

Team: Golden State Warriors

Position: Power Forward

Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 NBA Fantasy Rookie Rankings 2023-2024 Preview list is the Golden State Warriors power forward Trayce Jackson-Davis.

Jackson-Davis who was selected by the Washington Wizards in the late second round may be the sleeper of the 2023 NBA Draft. The former Indiana Hoosiers forward was a double double machine last season recording 18 total over the course of the season.

In addition to his potential to be a strong scorer and rebounder, Jackson-Davis adds fantasy owners a defensive weapon that can record multiple blocked shots per game. During the Hoosiers postseason run Jackson-Davis posted 10 blocks in a two game stretch.

9. Jarace Walker

Team: Indiana Pacers

Position: Power Forward

The young Indiana Pacers roster is loaded with young talented stars with Jarace Walker potentially being the next one to join the list. The former Houston Cougars forward has the size at 6 foot 8 inches to be a solid power forward at the NBA level.

While his game was limited in his only season with the Cougars last season as he developed during his freshman season, Walker showed flashes of his potential as a player who can be a franchise caliber big man.

Over 35 games as a freshman Walker posted 11.2 points per game to go along with 6.8 rebounds, 1.3 blocked shots, one steal, and 1.8 assists per game. As you look for a strong fantasy basketball rookie option, a player who can stuff that stat sheet across the board adds fantasy value to their roster.

8. Ausar Thompson

Team: Detroit Pistons

Position: Small Forward

Another 2023 NBA Draft pick joining a young and upcoming team is Ausar Thompson who was selected by the Detroit Pistons. Thompson has solid size and athleticism to transition in a two way player at the small forward position who has the potential to be a big time threat on the glass.

The 2023 Pistons first round pick who played the last two seasons within the Overtime Elite basketball league put together a strong second season in 2022-2023 leading to him being selected fifth overall. Over 16 games within the Overtime Elite league, Thompson averaged 16.3 points per game to go along with 7.1 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game.

While time will only tell his potential, Thompsons ability to stuff the stat sheet looks great for fantasy owners looking to add value within the later rounds of their NBA fantasy drafts.

7. Keyonte George

Team: Utah Jazz

Position: Shooting Guard

After trading away multiple key weapons over the past few seasons including Donovan Mitchell, the Utah Jazz are continuing to look for new young stars to develop into franchise players.

One of those players is Keyonte George who the team selected with the 16th overall pick during the 2023 NBA Draft. George, who was a key member of the Baylor Bears team last season, is a strong scorer who has the shooting range to become a solid three point threat at the NBA level.

The 19 year old guard is coming off his only college season in which he averaged 15.3 points to go along with 4.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists. In addition, his versatility and speed on the defensive end of the floor allows for potential steals to help pad the fantasy statistics.

6. Amen Thompson

Team: Houston Rockets

Position: Small Forward

Like his brother Ausar, Amen Thompson is one of the most talented of the rookies within the 2023 NBA Draft class with a huge upside. After electing to play college basketball, Thompson joined the Overtime Elite where he would go on to put together a strong two seasons within the league while averaging at least 14 points and six rebounds during each season.

While it is early to determine how good Thompson will be, his potential, size and athleticism translates into a potential two way player who can attack the rim with the ball in his hands as well as on the glass. In addition, Thompson has the vision and court presence to go along with a strong passing game to rack up four to six assists per game.

5. Gradey Dick

Team: Toronto Raptors

Position: Shooting Guard

Rounding out the Top 10 NBA Fantasy Rookie Rankings 2023-2024 Preview list is the Toronto Raptors rookie shooting guard Gradey Dick. After putting together, a stellar one season for the Kansas Jayhawks while showcasing his ability to be a big time three point threat.

Dick finished off his only season with the Jayhawks shooting 40.3 percent from behind the three point line. Adding his shooting ability behind the three point line with his size at 6 foot 8 inches, the Raptors guard could develop into a strong shooting threat during his rookie season.

During his play during the 2023 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Dick averaged 16 points per game. While his stat sheet might not be as loud as other top rookies, his upside in scoring makes him a strong fantasy rookie during the upcoming 2023-2024 NBA season.

4. Brandon Miller

Team: Charlotte Hornets

Position: Forward

One and done was all around NCAA Basketball this season with many of the top players electing to enter the NBA Draft. One of those players is the former Alabama Crimson Tide forward Brandon Miller.

Miller has a huge upside as he looks to develop into a household name within the Charlotte Hornets franchise. Playing alongside LaMelo Ball, Miller’s fantasy value increases as he becomes a legitimate scoring option on a young team.

The Hornets first round pick showcased his talent during the 2K24 Summer League averaging 17.3 points in three games played to go along with 8.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.3 steals and one steal per game. Miller is extremely athletic with solid size to produce some strong numbers for fantasy owners during his NBA rookie season.

3. Scoot Henderson

Team: Portland Trail Blazers

Position: Point Guard

As the Portland Trail Blazers turn to the future with a young core after trading veteran point guard Damian Lillard, one player to watch on their roster is the team’s 2023 NBA Draft pick Scoot Henderson.

Henderson, who was expected to add value alongside Lillard on the roster, will now be relied on to take over the potential everyday duties at the point guard position. Henderson has an explosive first step which potentially translates into attacking the rim and putting up big scoring numbers.

While his jump shot will need improvement his over ability to score is high while his court vision should help him put up six to eight assists during his rookie season in the NBA.

2. Chet Holmgren

Team: Oklahoma City Thunder

Position: Center

While technically part of the 2022 NBA Draft Class, Chet Holmgren of the Oklahoma City Thunder will be one of the key contenders for the 2023 NBA Rookie of the Year after missing all of last season.

The former Gonzaga Bulldogs big man and now Thunder big man who has the skills and size to be a night in and night out double double threat.

In addition, his ability to potentially be a strong defensive threat adds additional fantasy value while also being a threat to shoot from behind the three point line despite sitting at 7 foot 1 inches tall. Team: San Antonio Spurs

Position: Center

In at number one on the Top 10 NBA Fantasy Rookie Rankings 2023-2024 Preview list is the talented San Antonio Spurs first overall NBA Draft pick Victor Wembanyama.
