Reordering the boxing rankings after George Kambosos Jr. upset Teofimo Lopez in an exciting fight making him the new WBA Super, IBF, WBO, & The Ring Lightweight Champion of the world.

Honorable Mention

Masayoshi Nakatani

Masayoshi Nakatani is a Japanese professional boxer with a professional record of 19-2. He is also the former WBO Inter-Continental lightweight champion and also held the OPBF lightweight title, defending it 11 times.

Luke Campbell

Luke Campbell is a very talented fighter with a record of 20-4 with 16 KOs. The British southpaw has a solid list of accomplishments over his career. Though he doesn’t make our list, he deserves an honorable mention.

Isaac Cruz Gonzales

Isaac Cruz Gonzales is another incredible fighter who deserves an honorable mention. He has a record of 22-2-1. He just recently lost to Gervonta Davis that went to decision. He was able to take the power of Davis and definitely held his own.

Top 10 Lightweights

  1. Javier Fortuna

Javier Fortuna is the former WBA super featherweight champion, and he has a record of  36 wins, 3 losses, 2 draws, and 1 no-contest.  

He won the super featherweight title in 2015, after defeating Bryan Vasquez, and defended it once before losing it to Jason Sosa. Fortuna then moved up to the lightweight division and got a title shot after going on a 4 fight win streak. He fought Robert Easter Jr. for the IBF Lightweight title, however came short, losing by split decision.

The Dominican boxer lost his last fight to Joseph Diaz, and as of now, there is no official announcement about his next fight.

  1. Jorge Linares

With an extensive record of 47-6, Jorge Linares is one of the most experienced boxers on this list. He has won world titles in three weight divisions including lightweight. In 2014 he defeated Francisco Javier Prieto to win the vacant WBC Lightweight title.

After defending the title twice, he also won the WBA Lightweight championship after beating Anthony Crolla, which he defended three times. Linares lost the belt to Lomachenko in his next fight. 

In his most recent fight, Linares faced Devin Haney, and lost via a unanimous decision, as of now, there is no official announcement about his next fight.

  1. Joseph Diaz

Joseph Diaz is a professional boxer from the USA and has a record of 32 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw. 

Diaz is the current interim WBC lightweight champion, and he also held the IBF title at super featherweight before he moved up. Before his most recent fight, he defeated Javier Fortuna via a unanimous decision. 

Diaz’s next fight was a title unification bout against the current WBC champion, Devin Haney. Diaz had his moments and was competitive throughout but was not enough to secure the victory. Diaz lost via unanimous decision.

  1. Richard Commey

The next fighter on our list, Richard Commey is from Ghana, and he has a record of 30-3. His first attempt at a world title at lightweight failed in 2016, however after about 3 years, he won the IBF Lightweight title defeating Isa Chaniev. 

After one title defense, he lost the belt to Teofimo Lopez, Commey won his most recent fight, which happened in February against Jackson Marinez and his next fight is going to happen a couple of weeks from now against Vasyl Lomachenko.

  1. Teofimo Lopez

Until last weekend, Teófimo López jr was the unified lightweight champion of the world, however, the American Boxer had to face his first defeat and lost the titles. The 24-year-old won the belt after defeating Vasyl Lomachenko, who was the number 1 pound-for-pound boxer at the time. 

Lopez now has a record of 16-1, and in his last fight, he was very competitive, even landing a late knockdown against George Kambosos Jr. However, his performance wasn’t enough to convince all the judges, and he lost via Split decision.

  1. Gervonta Davis

Title(s): WBA (Regular) World Lightweight Champion

Gervonta “Tank” Davis is perhaps one of the most prolific stars in the lower weight divisions right now. Davis is undefeated, with 25 wins, all but one of which came by the way of Knockout. 

Davis has held titles in three different weight classes, He won the IBF super featherweight and the WBA (Super) super featherweight title.

Davis is also the current WBA (Regular) lightweight champion. He moved up to super-lightweight and defeated Mario Barrios to win the WBA (Regular) super lightweight title. 

Recently, he defended his lightweight title against Isaac Cruz. He was able to dominate the fight and looked to have injured his left hand late in the fight. He was still able to secure a victory by unanimous decision

  1. Devin Haney

Title(s): WBC World Lightweight Champion

Devin Haney is currently the youngest world champion in the world, and he has an undefeated record of 26-0 with 15 KOs. Haney is also the current WBC Lightweight champion. 

Haney defeated Zaur Abdullaev in 2019 to become the Interim WBC lightweight champion and was later promoted to the world champion when WBC made the then champion Lomachenko their franchise champion. 

In his most recent fight, Haney defeated Joseph Diaz by unanimous decision, displaying speed and dominance in a impressive performance.

  1. Ryan Garcia

Garcia is one of the most popular stars in boxing today, however, don’t let that take your focus off the fact that he is an incredible boxer. With an undefeated record of 21-0, with 18 KOs, Garcia has been tearing his way through the lightweight division. 

Most notably, he has defeated fighters like Romero Duno and Francisco Fonseca, Jayson Velez, and most recently, Luke Campbell. In his last fight, he also won the vacant WBC interim lightweight title. The title was later stripped.

  1. Vasyl Lomachenko

Vasyl Lomachenko is one of the most artistic fighters in boxing today. His incredible footwork, speed, and accuracy make him a challenge for any fighter in and around his weight division. Loma is the former unified WBA (Super), WBO, WBC, and The Ring lightweight champion. 

However, last year the former P4P king had to deal with his first convincing loss against Teofimo Lopez Jr. Though Lomachenko rallied in the later rounds, he couldn’t do enough to put Lopez away and score a victory. 

In his most recent fight, Loma defeated Masayoshi Nakatani via TKO and his next fight is on 11th December against Richard Commey.

  1. George Kambosos Jr.

Title(s): WBA Super, IBF, WBO, & The Ring World Lightweight Champion

At number 1, we have the newly minted unified lightweight champion of the world George Kambosos Jr. The Australian boxer has an undefeated professional record of 20-0, and after his hard-fought win last weekend, he is the number 1 ranked lightweight boxer on our list. 

He has won multiple regional titles, including the WBA Oceania lightweight title, and IBF Pan Pacific lightweight title. Lopex predicted a first-round knockout for this fight, however, George Kambosos shook the world and landed an early knockdown of his own. In the 10th round, Lopez also scored a knockout, however, after a very competitive fight, George Kambosos won via a split decision and became the unified  WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight champion.
