Ranking the best Strawweight fighters in the world after Rose Namajunas successfully defended her UFC Strawweight Title against Weili Zhang at UFC 268

Women’s MMA has become very exciting in the past few years, with extremely talented athletes stepping into the sport especially in the MMA 115 weight class. So today, we are going to rank the best female fighters in the MMA strawweight world.

 

Before we move on to the actual list here are some honorable mentions



Honorable Mention

Angela Lee

Organization: ONE FC

Title: ONE FC Atomweight (115lbs) Champion

Angela Lee has an impressive record of 10-2, and she is one of the best fighters in the division and is the current One FC Atomweight (115 lbs) champion. She is currently fighting between two weight divisions



Virna Jandiroba

Organization: UFC

Virna Jandiroba is also a good fighter who is also the former Invicta FC Strawweight champion and is currently fighting in the UFC.



Tatiana Suarez

Organization: UFC

Tatiana Suarez is another undefeated fighter in the UFC strawweight division who deserves an honorable mention. She has an undefeated MMA record with 8 wins and has notable wins over Alexa Grasso, Carla Esparza, and Nina Ansaroff. However, she has been unable to compete for almost two years now,  because of a neck injury that required surgery.

Top 10 Strawweights

  1. Amanda Ribas

Organization: UFC

Amanda Ribas is an MMA fighter from Brazil, and she has a professional MMA record of 11 wins and 2 losses. 

She currently competes in the UFC, and is ranked #10 in the official UFC rankings. In her most recent fight, Ribas defeated Virna Jandiroba via unanimous decision at UFC 267. She also has notable wins over Emily Whitmire, Mackenzie Dern and Paige VanZant.

As of now, there is no official announcement about her next fight. 




  1. Tecia Torres

Organization: UFC

Tecia Torres is an American MMA fighter, with a professional MMA record of 13 wins and 5 losses. 

She is currently on a three-fight winning streak in the UFC and has had some good wins. In her most recent fight, she defeated Angela Hill via unanimous decision. She also has won over Michelle Waterson, Felice Herrig, and even Rose Namajunas in her early career. 

As of now, there is no official announcement about her next fight. 




  1. Cláudia Gadelha

Organization: UFC

Fighting out of Brazil, Gadhela has a record of 18 wins and 5 losses. She made her UFC debut in 2014, and after three fights, she fought Joanna Jędrzejczyk for the UFC strawweight championship. 

However, she came short and lost a Unanimous decision. Since then she has had some good performances but hasn’t been able to get the momentum to put herself in a position for title contention. She has won 5 out of her last 8 fights and has won over Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Carla Esparza, Cortney Casey, and Angela Hill. 

Gadhelha lost her last fight against Yan Xiaonan, and her next fight hasn’t been announced yet. 




  1. Mackenzie Dern

Organization: UFC

Mackenzie Dern is an American MMA fighter and elite jiu-jitsu black belt. She has a professional MMA record of 11 wins and 2 losses. 

Dern won gold in the ADCC World Championships in 2015, and She won two Jiu-jitsu world championship gold medals both in gi and no-gi. She has won dozens of other Jiu-Jitsu championships as well. 

Dern has had a successful MMA record, however in her most recent fight, she lost to Marina Rodriguez via a Unanimous decision on UFC Fight Night this past October. As of now, there is no official announcement about her next fight. 




  1. Marina Rodriguez

Organization: UFC

Marina Rodriguez is an MMA fighter from Brazil, and she has a professional record of 15 wins and 1 loss, and 2 draws. She got her UFC contract after winning a fight at Dana White's Contender Series. 

She has notable wins over Jessica Aguilar, Tecia Torres, Amanda Ribas, Michelle Waterson, and Makenzie Dern. She is currently on a three-fight winning streak, and there isn't any official announcement about her next fight. 




  1. Yan Xiaonan

Organization: UFC

Coming in at number five, we have Yan Xiaonan from china. Yan has a record of 13 wins, 2 losses, and 1 no contest. 

She was on a 12 fight winning streak and has also won all 6 of her fights in the UFC, until her most recent fight against Carla Esparza. Yan lost the fight via TKO, however, she has notable victories over Angela Hill, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, and Cláudia Gadelha. 

As of now, there is no official announcement about her next fight. 




  1. Joanna Jędrzejczyk

Organization: UFC

Jedrzejczyk is a Polish MMA fighter and former Muay Thai champion with a professional MMA record of 16-4. She is a five-time IFMA World Champion and a four-time IFMA European Champion. 

Joanna is also the longest-reigning strawweight champion in the UFC, she became the Strawweight UFC champion in 2015 and defended the belt 5 times before losing it to Rose Namajunas. 

Joanna Jędrzejczyk has had some rough fights recently, losing 4 out of her last 6 fights. She lost to Weili Zhang in her most recent fight, and as of now, there is no official announcement about her next fight. 




  1. Carla Esparza

Organization: UFC

Carla “Cookie Monster” Esparza is an MMA fighter from the USA, and she has a professional record of 18 wins and 6 losses. 

She was the Invicta FC strawweight champion, and also became the first UFC strawweight champion after defeating Rose Namajunas in the Finale of TUF 20 back in 2014. However, she lost her title to Joanna  Jędrzejczyk in her first defense. 

Esparza is currently on a 5 fight win streak, defeating Xiaonan Yan in her most recent fight, as of now, there is no official announcement about her next fight. 




  1. Weili Zhang

Organization: UFC

Weili Zhang was the first UFC champion from China, and she has a record of 21 wins and 2 losses. Zhang made her UFC debut in 2018, and after three consecutive wins, she fought Jessica Andrade for the Strawweight strap. 

Zhang won that fight and went on to defend her title against Joanna Jędrzejczyk, who is undoubtedly one of the scariest fights at strawweight. However, in her next title defense against Rose Namajunas, she lost her title. 

She had a rematch against Rose yesterday, for the title, but she lost a Split decision after a hard-fought five-round war 




  1. Rose Namajunas

Organization: UFC

Title: UFC Strawweight Champion

Rose Namajunas is an American MMA fighter with a record of 11 wins and 4 losses. She is the only two-time women UFC strawweight champion and is the current UFC champion right now as well. 

She became the first fighter to defeat Joanna Jędrzejczyk, winning with an incredible knockout as an underdog. Jędrzejczyk was given an immediate rematch, but Rose won that too. 

After losing her title, she fought Weili Zhang and won the title in another shocking knockout performance. 

This past weekend at UFC 268, Rose defended her belt in a rematch against the former champ Weili Zhang, and repeated history, by defeating Zhang via split Decision in a hard-fought fight that went the distance. Both fighters had their moments.

Zhang landed some good ground and pound in the third, and it was definitely her best round, however, in the championship rounds, Namajunas landed takedowns and maintained top control, which ultimately won her the fight.
