Memphis Pal Moore

Memphis Pal Moore was an American boxer, who competed between 1913 and 1930. He held the world bantamweight title and had over 170 wins in his unofficial boxing record. He isn’t on our list but deserves an honorable mention. 

Terry McGovern

Terry McGovern was an American boxer who competed between 1897 to 1908. He held the world bantamweight and featherweight titles.

Top 10 Bantamweight Boxers

10. Lionel Rose

Lionel Rose was an Australian professional boxer who competed between 1964 and 1976.

He was the first indigenous Australian boxer to win a world title. Lionel Rose held the Undisputed bantamweight world title and defended the unified WBA, WBC, and The Ring bantamweight titles 3 times.

He retired with a record of 42 wins and 11 losses.

9. Joe Lynch

Joe Lynch was a professional boxer from America, and he competed between 1915 and 1926.

Lynch was a 2-time undisputed bantamweight world, champion, the first time, he was awarded the inaugural NBA title, while holding the NYSAC title, and the second time, he won the titles after defeating Johnny Buff. he defended the titles 3 times. 

Joe Lynch retired with a record of 53 wins, 12 losses, 8 draws, 2 no-contests, and 83 Newspaper Decisions.

8. Orlando Canizales

Orlando Canizales is a former professional boxer from the USA, who competed between the years of 1984 and 1999. 

She has held major world titles in 4 different weight classes, but the best of his performances came at bantamweights. He became the IBF bantamweight champion and defended the title a record 15 times. He also held world titles at flyweight, super flyweight, and featherweight. 

Orlando Canizales retired with a boxing record of 50 wins, 5 losses, 1 draw, and 1 no-contest.

7. Fighting Harada

Fighting Harada was a Japanese professional boxer. His real name was Masahiko Harada and he competed between 1960 and 1970. 

Harada was a multiple-weight world champion, holding titles at both flyweight and bantamweight.  He became the Undisputed champion at bantamweight and defended the unified WBA, WBC, and The Ring bantamweight titles 4 times. 

Harada retired with a boxing record of 55 wins and 7 losses.

6. Pete Herman

Pete Herman is a former American Boxer, who competed between 1912 and 1927. 

He became the Undisputed bantamweight world champion in 1921, holding the unified NYSAC and NBA world titles. He also won the world’s bantamweight title earlier in his career. 

Pete Herman retired with an official boxing record of 61 wins, 13 losses, 9 draws, and 62 newspaper decisions.

5. Panama Al Brown

Panama Al Brown was a former professional boxer from Panama. His real name was Alfonso Teofilo Brown, and he was active between 1922 and 1942. 

Brown was a two-time undisputed bantamweight world champion, and he defended the unified NYSAC, NBA, and The Ring bantamweight titles 7 times. He also held the IBU bantamweight title. 

Panama Al Brown retired with a record of 129 wins, 19 losses, 12 draws, and 3 newspaper decisions.

4. Carlos Zárate

Carlos Zárate is a former boxer from Mexico, who competed between 1970 and 1988. 

Zárate became the WBC bantamweight world champion in 1976 and continued to defend it 9 times against some of the best bantamweights of his time. He also moved up to challenge for the super-bantamweight title. 

Carlos Zárate retired with an impressive record of 66 wins and 4 losses.

3. Manuel Ortiz

Manuel Ortiz is an American former boxer, who was active between 1938 and 1955. 

Ortiz is one of the most accomplished fighters at bantamweight and is a two-time undisputed world champion in the division. Between his two title reigns, he defended the unified NBA, NYSAC, and The Ring bantamweight titles 16 times. 

Ortiz retired with a boxing record of 100 wins, 28 losses, and 3 draws.

2. Rubén Olivares

Rubén Olivares is a former professional boxer and actor from Mexico, who competed between 1965 and 1988. 

He held world titles in two divisions and became the undisputed Bantamweight world champion twice. Between his two title reigns, he defended the  WBA, WBC, and The Ring bantamweight titles 4 times. After this, he moved to featherweight, where he won multiple world titles as well. 

Olivares retired with a record of 89 wins 13 losses and 3 draws.

1. Éder Jofre

At the top of our list, Éder Jofre is the greatest bantamweight of all time. He is a Brazilian boxer who competed between 1957 and 1976. 

He held world titles in two weight classes, however, the best of his performances came at bantamweight, where he held the Undisputed world title, in both the NBA, NYSAC era, and the WBA, WBC era, and had 8 title defenses in the division. Later in his career, he also became the WBC featherweight champion. 

He retires with a record of 72 wins, 2 losses, and 4 draws.
