NFL Draft 2026 Defensive Tackle Rankings

Every college football season has its playmakers, the Heisman-caliber quarterbacks, explosive running backs, and highlight-reel wideouts who grab the headlines. However, the true foundation of a championship caliber team is built in the trenches. That is the case when you look at the Top 10 College Football Defensive Tackles 2025-2026 rankings who each deliver tremendous value up front on their defensive line.

This year’s defensive interior talent has been downright monstrous. From gap-plugging enforcers to finesse rushers with first-step explosions, these linemen disrupted everything in their path, quarterbacks, backfields, and even the rhythm of opposing offenses. The result? A season filled with forced fumbles, third-down stops, and national title ambitions fueled by sheer trench dominance. Headlining the list are four talented defensive tackles who each have been a huge asset to their team’s success in route to the College Football Playoffs.

The group of tackles include Kayden McDonald of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Tyrique Tucker of the Indiana Hoosiers, WilL Echoles of the Ole Miss Rebels, and Lee Hunter of the Texas Tech Red Raiders. While the spotlight often falls elsewhere, every top team this season has a defensive tackle who’s been its unsung hero.

Here is a look at the Top 10 College Football Defensive Tackles 2025-2026 Rankings

Honorable Mention

Jordan van den Berg

School: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

NFL Draft Status: 2026 NFL Draft

When it comes to the Top 10 College Football Defensive Tackles 2025-2026 rankings, few players made a late-season leap like Jordan van den Berg.

The 6’3”, 300 pound defensive tackle was a key anchor of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets defensive resurgence this season and their strong 9-4 season. Known for his hand strength and relentless motor, van den Berg consistently collapsed the pocket, paving the way for linebackers to feast behind him. The success was strong this season for van den Berg who capped off a career year posting a career high 42 tackles and three sacks over the course of the season.

Though just outside the top ten, his developmental trajectory and run-stopping instincts have made him a top defensive tackle prospect leading into the 2026 NFL draft.

Peter Woods

School: Clemson Tigers

NFL Draft Status: 2026 NFL Draft

Another talented defensive tackle that put together a strong season while anchoring down the Clemson Tigers star Peter Woods.

Woods, who is expected to be one of the top overall defensive tackles selected during the 2026 NFL Draft, was as dominant as any interior defensive lineman in the country while using his size and strength to impact opposing offensive lineman. The six foot three inch, 315 pound lineman posted a career high 30 tackles over the course of the season to go along with two sacks and one pass defended. His ability to disengage and redirect pursuit lanes made him a key factor in Clemson’s stout red-zone defense.

A master of leverage and short-area explosiveness, Woods proved why NFL scouts have been circling his name since his freshman season.

Top 10 Best Defensive Tackles in College Football Power Rankings

10. A’mauri Washington

School: Oregon Ducks

NFL Draft Status: Undecided

Closing out the Top 10 College Football Defensive Tackles 2025-2026 rankings list is the Oregon Ducks interior defensive lineman A’mauri Washington.

While the numbers don’t jump off the screen when looking at them, the film and game play does make it easy to see the impact Washington has had all season for the Ducks defense. Washington, who has yet to decide on his next path either to return to the Ducks for his senior season or enter the 2026 NFL Draft, capped off his third season with the team posting a career high 31 tackles to go along with 1.5 sacks and six passes defended.

With a combination of burst and balance, he often beat guards off the snap, forcing hurried throws and drive-killing third-down stops. His relentless energy played a massive role in the Ducks allowing just 16.3 points per game.

9. Aaron Graves

School: Iowa Hawkeyes

NFL Draft Status: 2026 NFL Draft

If you are looking around at some of the top defenses in the country, the Iowa Hawkeyes rank among the best in the country after allowing the sixth fewest number of points per game (15.2) during the 2025-2026 season.

One member of that talented group of defenders is senior Aaron Graves who posted his third straight season with at least 30 tackles and five sacks. Overall the versatile and athletic defensive lineman posted a career high 36 tackles to go along with five sacks, one pass defended and his first career interception. Using solid size at six foot five inches and 295 pounds, Graves made it difficult for opposing offensive lineman to not focus on him when lining up against him.

Now the talented Hawkeyes star will enter the 2026 NFL Draft ranked among the best defensive tackle prospects in the country.

8. Martez Poynter

School: Toledo Rockets

NFL Draft Status: 2026 NFL Draft

One dynamic defensive tackle that has fallen under the radar is Martez Poynter of the Toledo Rockets.

Playing inside the smaller MAC conference, Poynter quietly put together one of the most efficient campaigns for any Group of Five defensive lineman. The red shirt senior capped off a second straight strong season for the Rockets posting 43 tackles to go along with a career high 6.5 sacks and one forced fumble. Poynter’s blend of pad leverage and lateral quickness routinely neutralized zone-blocking schemes, and his consistency in pursuit made him a linchpin in the Rockets’ defense.

Don’t be surprised if his name climbs in the defensive tackle list entering the 2026 NFL Combine and the 2026 NFL Draft.

7. Zxavian Harris

School: Ole Miss Rebels

NFL Draft Status: 2026 NFL Draft

The historic run of the Ole Miss Rebels continues as the team looks to continue their success during the College Football Playoffs.

Leading the charge up front on the defensive side of the football is talented defensive tackle Zxavian Harris. Harris, who has been an anchor up front over each of the last three seasons, continues to develop on each play while emerging as an immediate threat at the interior defensive line position. Overall Harris capped off a stellar senior season posting career highs in tackles (46), passes defended (2), sacks (3), and interceptions (1).

A big strong physical lineman who uses a strong motor, power, and a high football IQ to disrupt opposing offenses.

6. Carlos Allen Jr

School: Houston Cougars

NFL Draft Status: 2026 NFL Draft

Power meets quickness in Carlos Allen Jr., the centerpiece of the Houston Cougars defensive turnaround.

His endurance and effort level remained unmatched, often playing over 60 snaps per game while maintaining interior dominance. Ultimately the high level of play helped the Cougars defensive tackle post a career high 73 tackles while also adding 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and three passes defended.

At the front and center of it was Moten Sr who posted 24 tackles and a career high 4.5 sacks to help pace the defense. His discipline against cutback runs and veteran hand techniques helped the Hurricanes regain control of the line of scrimmage.

More importantly, Moten’s presence allowed Miami’s edge rushers to thrive, proof of his selfless impact on the team dynamic.

4. Lee Hunter

School: Texas Tech Red Raiders

NFL Draft Status: 2026 NFL Draft

Lee Hunter did more than just hold the line, he blew it up for the Texas Tech Red Raiders all season while helping the team reach the College Football Playoffs.

His violent hands and impressive burst off the snap created matchup havoc for offensive guards all season. While on paper his 2.5 sacks don’t stack up against some of the other talented defensive tackles, it’s the other intangibles including forcing opposing offenses to double team him at the line that makes him such a valuable asset to a Red Raiders defense that allowed just 254.4 yards per game and 10.9 points per game.

Hunter’s strong year symbolized Texas Tech’s rise on defense. A perfect blend of strength and quick-twitch explosion, Hunter projects as a top-tier NFL prospect heading into 2026.

3. Will Echoles

School: Ole Miss Rebels

NFL Draft Status: Returning to Ole miss

Ole Miss Rebel’s high-octane offense often steals the spotlight, but Will Echoles ensured the defense kept pace all season while ranking among the best teams within the SEC conference.

Recording 57 tackles, three passes defended, and 4.5 sacks, Echoles delivered consistency every week in SEC warfare. His versatility allowed the Rebels  defense to adapt seamlessly to different looks.

Echoles’ quick swim move and lateral range gave the Rebels one of the most underrated interior defenders in the nation and a force to stack up against the best offensive lines in the country.

2. Tyrique Tucker

School: Indiana Hoosiers

NFL Draft Status: 2026 NFL Draft

With Tucker dominating up front the Hoosiers are now looking to make a deep run during the College Football Playoffs.
