The 2022 NCAA College Football Season is set to kick off in just a few short weeks as teams set their sights on a chance to take home the National Championship.

As the excitement for football continues to build around the United States, the hype for another action-packed College Football season is as well.

While nearly two dozen College Football teams have the talent to compete, only 10 can land on the Top 10 College Football Teams Preview Rankings 2022 list.

Before you just jump to conclusions, yes, the Alabama Crimson Tide land at the top of the list after another dominating season during the 2021 NCAA Football schedule and another stellar crop of high school recruits electing to head to play for the Tide.

While all eyes will be set on Crimson Tide in the SEC, other top College Football Programs such as the Ohio State Buckeyes, Clemson Tigers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the defending National Champions the Georgia Bulldogs all have rosters to land in the 2023 College Football Playoffs.

Here is a look at the Top 10 College Football Teams Preview Rankings 2022 list

Honorable Mention

Oklahoma Sooners

Just missing the Top 10 College Football Teams Preview Rankings 2022 list is the Oklahoma Sooners.

While the Sooners roster is loaded with a ton of talent heading into the 2022 NCAA Football schedule key concerns including with the coaching staff that features a new offensive coordinator in Jeff Lebby and head coach Brent Venables.

In addition, the loss of Caleb Williams and Spencer Rattler, leaves the team a big void at quarterback. Despite those concerns the Sooners have talent on both sides of the ball including top wide receiver Marvin Mims and Eric Gray at running back while the defensive features DeShaun White and Marcus Stripling.

Key Matchups: October 8th VS Texas Longhorns, November 5th VS Baylor Bears

Baylor Bears

Another Big 12 team that has the talent to make a run deep during the 2022-23 NCAA Football season is the Baylor Bears.

The Bears who enter the start of the 2022 NCAA Football schedule ranked 10th on both the AP Top 25 and AFCA Coaches Poll College Football Rankings are coming off an impressive 12-2 season during 2021-22.

Looking to move the ball on the offense side of the ball will be quarterback Blake Shapen who has the ability to make plays with both his arm and feet while the team looks to succeed behind a solid offensive line.

Key Matchups: October 1st VS Oklahoma State, November 5th @ Oklahoma Sooners

Top 10 College Football Teams

10. Oregon Ducks

Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 College Football Teams Preview Rankings 2022 list is the Oregon Ducks.

The Ducks were an interesting team in 2021 finding a way to knock off a very talented Ohio State Buckeyes team while losing three of their four games against teams ranked within the Top 25 including two losses to the Utah Utes.

The Ducks are loaded with talent, while also adding a very talented new offensive coordinator in Kenny Dillingham to kick up their offensive attack. On the offensive side of the Bo Nix will look to lead them under center while stars such as Troy Franklin, Chase Cota and Caleb Chapman can make big plays downfield.

Meanwhile on the defensive side of the ball, the team is loaded with talent including Mase Funa, Justin Flowe, and Christian Gonzalez.

Key Matchups: September 3rd VS Georgia Bulldogs, November 19th VS Utah Utes

9. Utah Utes

Just in front of their Pac-12 Rivals are the Utah Utes who will be making a push to take home the Pac-12 Championship and a potential spot within the NCAA Football playoffs.

The success of the Utes in 2022 will ride on the playmaking abilities of their 5th year junior Cameron Rising who was up and down last season before finishing strong helping the Utes to six straight wins to end the season and the Pac-12 Championship Game.

In addition to Rising, the offense features a wide range of weapons including running back Tavion Thomas, tight end Brant Kuithe, and wide receiver Devaughn Vele.

On the defense, the team returns All-Pac-12 cornerback JaTravis Broughton to go along with studs Cole Bishop, Clayton Isbell, Malone Mataele, and Clark Philips III.

Key Matchups: September 3rd @ Florida Gators, October 15th VS USC, November 19th vs Oregon Ducks

8. Michigan Wolverines

Head coach Jim Harbaugh will look to continue his success from the 2021 NCAA Football season including a key first win against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Unfortunately, the Wolverines will need a ton of new players to step up on the defensive side of the ball after losing star Aidan Hutchinson as well as Daxton Hill and David Ajabo to the NFL.

In addition, a new defensive coordinator will be taken over by Jesse Minter. Nonetheless the defense still features talented options such as RJ Moten, DJ Turner, and Junior Colson.

On the offensive side of the ball the team is talented featuring Cornelius Johnson, Erick All and Ronnie Bell looking to make plays down the field.

Key Matchups: October 29th VS Michigan State, November 26th @ Ohio State Buckeyes

7. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Another strong season came and gone for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in 2021 including posting a 12-2 overall record but a disappointing 37-35 loss in the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl left a bad taste in the mouth of the Fighting Irish.

As conferences battle for the Fighting Irish to join them, the Fighting Irish will have an uphill battle in 2022 with key matchups against very talented programs such as the Ohio State Buckeyes, Clemson Tigers, and the USC Trojans.

As the Trojans offense looks to take a step forward, Tyler Buchner looks like a real threat at the position after posting a solid freshman season together.

Meanwhile the team’s talented tight end Michael Mayer will be a big-time threat within the passing attack. The loss of stud safety Kyle Hamilton leaves a void, but the team has stars including Isaiah Foskey to step up.

Key Matchups: September 3rd @ Ohio State Buckeyes, November 5th VS Clemson Tigers

6. USC Trojans

A new beginning is set to kick off in sunny Southern California in 2022 as Lincoln Riley joins the USC Trojans after a solid stint with the Oklahoma Sooners.

As Riley looks to turn around a storied Trojans football program, the team was able to dominate the transfer portal to reshape their roster while adding talented quarterback Caleb Williams as well as star wide receiver Jordan Addison to bolster an offensive that ranked 1st in the Pac-12 in 2021.

On the defensive side of the ball the team was able to add Mekhi Blackmon as well as Latrell McCutchin to bolster the defense while Xavion Alford is set to take another big stride in 2022.

Key Matchups: October 15th @ Utah Utes, November 26th VS Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

5. Clemson Tigers

Landing at number five on the Top 10 College Football Teams Preview Rankings 2022 list is the Clemson Tigers.

The Tigers who took a step back over the past season, will look to rebound back into the College Football Playoff picture in 2022 while jumping back to the top of the ACC.

After landing another Top 10 College Football Recruiting class heading into 2022, the Tigers are reloaded and ready to compete. DJ Uiagalelei will look to take big strides this season at quarterback while top receiving threat Joseph Ngata will look to make big plays to help turn around a Tigers passing attack that struggled last season.

Meanwhile the Tigers defense continues to be stellar and should continue that in 2022 with Myles Murphy putting havoc on opposing quarterbacks and Xavier Thomas making big plays.

Key Matchups: November 5th @ Notre Dame Fighting Irish, November 19th VS Miami Hurricanes

4. Texas A&M Aggies

When you are looking to compete with the Alabama Crimson Tides and Ohio State Buckeyes of the world you must land a top tier recruiting class and some stellar transfers. That is exactly what the Texas A&M Aggies did landing the top overall recruiting class heading into the 2022 NCAA Football schedule.

The Aggies have question marks at the quarterback position to start the season but will eventually turn to Connor Weigman. Weighman is the recruit that could lead the Aggies to the playoffs.

Other top playmakers including Ainias Smith, and stud recruit Evan Stewart gives the quarterbacks two elite receiving options while running back Devone Achane has the speed to make a big play on any touch of the football. The biggest hole on the team is on the defensive side of the ball after losing multiple stars to the NFL.

Key Matchups: September 17th VS Miami Hurricanes, October 8th @ Alabama Crimson Tide

3. Ohio State Buckeyes

To win and compete in college football you must have the recruits as well as a stud quarterback.

For the Ohio State Buckeyes, they fill both checkboxes with the return of Heisman Candidate and potential top overall NFL Draft Pick CJ Stroud as well as landing the 4th overall recruiting class in all of football including five-star linebacker C.J. Hick and four-star wide receiver Kyion Grayes.

Nonetheless, the success of the Buckeyes will start and revolve and finish around the play of quarterback Stroud. Stroud, who is coming off an impressive 4,435 yards returns with the College Football Playoffs on his mind.

Key Matchups: September 3rd VS Notre Dame Fighting Irish, November 26th VS Michigan Wolverines

2. Georgia Bulldogs

Some may slot the Georgia Bulldogs in at number one on the Top 10 College Football Teams Preview Rankings 2022 list after winning the National Championship during the 2021-22 NCAA Football season.

That said, the Bulldogs land at number two on the list while still having a roster loaded with talent while also adding five new five-star recruits among their 3rd ranked recruiting class.

The team returns starting quarterback Stetson Bennett for another season while having a solid pass catching group to include tight ends Brock Bowers, Adonai Mitchell, and Ladd McConkey.

Meanwhile the defense, which was stellar in 2021, will look to plug holes after losing a ton of firepower. One player to watch is Jalen Carter who might be the best defensive player on the team.

Key Matchups: September 3rd VS Oregon Ducks, November 19th @ Kentucky Wildcats

1. Alabama Crimson Tide

Another college football season is approaching and another year the Alabama Crimson Tide lands at the top spot on the Top 10 College Football Teams Preview Rankings 2022 list.

As long as Nick Saban is at Alabama, the Crimson Tide will continue to be the team to beat in the SEC as well as in College Football.

While the Tide lost a ton of weapons to the NFL, Saban put together the 2nd overall recruiting class just behind the Texas A&M Aggies. Much like the Buckeyes, the Tide return their stud quarterback Bryce Young for another season while expectations are set high on his potential.

The team was able to add dynamic wide receiver Jermaine Burton, as well as Kahmyr Gibbs to a very talented offense. Meanwhile the defensive returns star linebacker Will Anderson Jr as well as teammate Dallas Turner. The two wreaked havoc on opposing quarterbacks in 2021-22.

Key Matchups: October 1st @ Arkansas Razorbacks, October 8th VS Texas A&M Aggies, November 12th @ Ole Miss Rebels
