The 2023-2024 NBA schedule is in full swing as the second half of the season continues to roll along. A season that has delivered some top tier moments and performances from many of the NBA’s top super stars as well as some fresh young faces that are slowly making their impact on the overall game of basketball. One player who continues to build a strong NBA resume is the Dallas Mavericks All-Star point guard Luka Doncic who continues to rank among the best point guards in the NBA while landing at the top spot on the Top 10 Best NBA Point Guards 2024 Rankings.

The Mavericks point guard is posting his best season of his young career posting a career high in scoring while averaging 34.1 points per game and a career high 9.8 assists per game over his first 61 games this season.

As Doncic continues to pursue his first NBA MVP Award, he is joined by an extensive list of talented point guards around the league. Landing among the top five-point guards with Doncic includes Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers, Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks, and Jalen Brunson of the New York Knicks.

Honorable Mention

Jamal Murray

Team: Denver Nuggets

Just missing the Top 10 NBA Point Guards 2024 Rankings list is the Denver Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray. Murray is one of those point guards that can not only run the Nuggets offense but also has the physical tools to score while forming a dynamic tandem with Nikola Jokic.

Through 54 games this season Murray is averaging 20.9 points per game marking his third straight season posting at least 20 points per game.

In addition, the 27-year-old point guard has also added 6.7 assists per game and 4.1 rebounds despite losing some of his statistics including assists to Jokic. 

Fred VanVleet

Team: Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets 30-year-old veteran point guard continues to put together strong numbers year in and year out since seeing his minutes increase to over 20 minutes per game back during the 2017-2018 NBA season.

In his first season with the Houston Rockets, Fred VanVleet understands his role within the team while taking over the leadership role as well as running the team’s offense.

This production has limited his overall scoring numbers to just 16.9 points per game however, the eight-year veteran has posted a career high 8.2 assists over 63 games this season.

10. Cade Cunningham

Team: Detroit Pistons

Sliding in at number 10 on the Top 10 NBA Point Guards 2024 Rankings list is the third year point guard of the Detroit Pistons Cade Cunningham. Cunningham, who was limited to just 12 games last year bounced back strong over his first 59 games of the season.

The former Oklahoma State Cowboys point guard is shooting 44.7 percent from the floor this season while pushing both his scoring (22.1) and assists (7.6) totals to career highs.

To go along with the 44.7 mark from the field, Cunningham has also shot 34.9 percent from behind the three-point line helping to drive his scoring average to 22.1 points per game. 

9. Tyrese Maxey

Team: Philadelphia 76ers

The expectations were set extremely high for the Philadelphia 76ers this season as Joel Embiid looked to defend his NBA MVP Award and the chance to compete for an NBA Championship was within striking distance.

However, losing Embiid to an injury and the trade of James Harden took away a key piece of the puzzle, however the fourth year point guard Tyrese Maxey has not disappointed while taking over as the team’s top scoring threat and player.

Maxey has increased his career high in scoring from 20.3 points per game last season to 25.7 points per game this season. The production has not stopped as the 23-year-old point guard has posted a career high 6.2 assists per game and 3.6 rebounds per game.

8. Damian Lillard

Team: Milwaukee Bucks

After being dealt to the Milwaukee Bucks, Damian Lillard has continued his production as one of the games top overall players while forming one of the best tandems in the NBA alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Despite seeing his overall production drop from a career high 32.2 points per game, Lillard continues to lead and run the Bucks offense at an elevated level each game while also being a dynamic threat anytime the basketball is within his hands.

In 66 games this season Lillard is averaging the 11th most assists per game while posting seven per game while also adding 4.4 rebounds. To go along with those numbers Lillard has also posted 24.4 points per game while posting his 11th straight season averaging at least 20 points per game.

7. Stephen Curry

Team: Golden State Warriors

When it comes to one of the best pure shooting point guards in the NBA, Stephen Curry is that player. Curry, who will go down as one of the greatest shooters in the history of the NBA continues to be the games top three-point threats in the game while also having the all-around game to keep the Golden State Warriors in games and playoff contention.

The Warriors fifteen-year NBA veteran is currently posting his 13th season shooting at least 40 percent from behind the three-point line.

The strong success from behind the three-point line has helped Curry to average 26.8 points per game over 64 games this season while pushing his total to 12 straight seasons averaging at least 20 points. In addition, Curry has added 4.5 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game over the 2023-2024 NBA schedule.

6. De’Aaron Fox

Team: Sacramento Kings

Another young talented point guard taking his game to the next level is the Sacramento Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox. Fox who was drafted fifth overall during the 2017 NBA Draft has slowly developed into one of the games top overall point guard whiles being a strong ball handler, great passer as well as a strong shooter from all over the floor.

The former Kentucky Wildcats star is averaging a career high 26.7 points per game over 62 games this season while shooting 46.8 percent from the floor and 36.3 percent from behind the three-point line.

The Kings point guard has also been aggressive on the defensive end of the floor posting two steals per game and 4.5 rebounds while also adding 5.7 assists per game.

5. Jalen Brunson

Team: New York Knicks

Rounding out the Top 5-point guards landing on the Top 10 NBA Point Guards 2024 Rankings list is the New York Knicks Jalen Brunson. After landing with the Knicks, Brunson has taken his game to the next level while also taking over the leadership and ball handling responsibilities that were limited during his playing time with the Dallas Mavericks.

Brunson, who was as talented as any player coming out within the 2018 NBA Draft, has seen his overall numbers improve in his two seasons in New York including posting 27.4 points per game this season to go along with 6.5 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game.

The Knicks point guard continues to show strong shooting abilities while shooting 47.5 percent from the field and 40.2 percent from three-point territory.

4. Trae Young

Team: Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks point guard prior to going down with a finger injury to his radial collateral ligament ranked among the best point guards in the NBA while also ranking among the best scorers in the league.

The former Oklahoma Sooners point guard prior to going down with an injury ranked 11th in the NBA in scoring averaging 26.4 points per game while also sitting in second while averaging 10.8 assists per game.

Prior to going down with the injury in late February, Young had posted 35 double doubles on the season while being just one of two players to average at least 10-points and 10 assists per game.

3. Tyrese Haliburton

Team: Indiana Pacers

One of two NBA players to average at least 10 assists per game, Tyrese Haliburton continues to demonstrate his high IQ of the game and his ability to set up his teammates.

In addition, the Indiana Pacers point guard is one of the most unselfish players in the game willing to find the open player in place of padding his own scoring stats. Currently Haliburton leads the NBA averaging 11.2 points per game to go along with 20.4 points per game.

Through 60 games during the 2023-2024 NBA schedule, the Pacers guard is shooting 47.9 percent from the field and 36.7 percent from behind the three-point line. 

2. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Team: Oklahoma City Thunder

As the 2023-2024 NBA season continues to bounce along the landscape of the game continues to evolve while the state of the game is possible at the best that it has been in years.

This includes the talented group of players at the point guard that continue to be dynamic in all aspects of the game. One of those talented NBA point guards that ranks among the best in the game is the Oklahoma City Thunder Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

The six-year star from the Kentucky Wildcats currently sits third in the NBA while averaging 30.5 points per game. For the second straight season Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging at least 30 points while also adding 5.6 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game.

Through 69 games this season the Thunder point guard is shooting 36.7 percent from behind the three-point line while also averaging a career high 54.1 percent from the field.

1. Luka Doncic

Team: Dallas Mavericks

In at number one on the Top 10 NBA Point Guards 2024 Rankings list is the Dallas Mavericks All-Star Luka Doncic. Doncic who is chasing his first NBA MVP Award has shined all season while continuing to showcase his talents as one of the best players in the league as well as top overall point guard.

The Maverick’s star is posting his best season of his NBA career while nearly averaging a double double this season including posting career highs in scoring (34) and assists (9.9) per game.

Through 62 games this season the talented point guard has posted 42 double doubles and 19 triple doubles. This so far makes him the best Point Guards in the NBA right now.
