NBA Power Rankings

The 2023-2024 NBA Schedule is in full swing as the season rolls into mid-February with every team having played at least 50 games. As you start to look around at the landscape of the NBA the Western Conference is currently loaded with teams that are strong to start the season. Currently 10 of the 15 teams within the conference have at least a .500 record or better while six teams sit at least with 30 wins compared. However, despite being loaded the Boston Celtics who are just one of eight teams with a record of at least .500 or better within the Eastern Conference is the top team in the NBA while leading the Top 10 Best NBA Teams 2024 Rankings list.

Through their first 51 games on the season, the Celtics are 39-12 on the season while building a five game lead within the Eastern Conference. This includes a current stretch of play where the team has won seven of ten games.

As the Celtics continue rolling in the Eastern Conference, the Los Angeles Clippers are making a push to take over the top spot within the Western Conference after winning eight of their last 10 games. As the Clippers and Celtics land among the best teams in the NBA, the Denver Nuggets, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Oklahoma City Thunder round out the best five teams in the league.

Here is a look at the Top 10 Best NBA Teams 2024 Rankings:

Honorable Mention

Los Angeles Lakers

Previous Ranking: Honorable Mention

Just missing the Top 10 Best NBA Teams 2024 Rankings list is the Los Angeles Lakers who are fighting to remain within the playoff picture within the Western Conference.

However, despite their struggles it is hard to look past their recent stretch of games including winning three straight and six of their last 10. The Lakers have a veteran roster loaded with star power to include future Hall of Famers LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

While their regular season started off slow the team has gotten things rolling now which may be dangerous for other teams around the NBA.

New Orleans Pelicans

Previous Ranking: Unranked

One team is starting to find a groove within the Western Conference as mid-February approaches is the New Orleans Pelicans who have won four straight games to push their record to 30-21.

The recent four game winning streak and wins in six of their last 10 has pushed the Pelicans into the 6th seed within the Western Conference and into the NBA Playoffs. This includes a key 117-106 win over the red hot Los Angeles Clippers on the road in a battle of Western Conference playoff teams.

The Pelicans have a deep roster that features six players averaging at least 9.9 points per game while appearing in at least 37 games.

This includes the team’s big three of Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, and C.J. McCollum who have combined to average 63.2 points per game to go along with 14.9 rebounds and 15.1 assists per game.

Top 10 Best NBA Teams Right Now

10. Philadelphia 76ers

Previous Ranking: 5

Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 Best NBA Teams 2024 Rankings list is the Philadelphia 76ers. While the 76ers are still clinging on to the last spot among the Top 10 Best NBA Teams 2024 Rankings list, the team is fading fast with the loss of Joel Embiid.

Embiid who was playing at an NBA MVP level before his injury is out for the foreseeable future limiting the roster talent the 76ers have which has resulted in the team losing three straight games and seven of their last 10 games.

However, it is hard to write off the 76ers at this point after picking up 30 wins to start the season while hanging around the best teams in the Eastern Conference before the injury.

9. Phoenix Suns

Previous Ranking: Unranked

One of the most loaded rosters in the NBA, the Phoenix Suns continue to fail to live up to their true potential despite having one of the best rosters in the NBA.

However, trends have started to point up of late for the Suns after winning seven of 10 games and 11 of their last 15 to push their record to 30-21 on the season. Over that stretch the Suns have posted wins over the Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings, Miami Heat, and the Milwaukee Bucks.

Leading the team’s recent hot stretch is Kevin Durant who is currently leading the team in scoring while averaging 28.3 points per game to go along with 6.4 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game.

In addition, if the Suns can keep Bradley Beal healthy down the stretch the big three of Durant, Beal, and Devin Booker will be hard to slow down in the playoffs.

8. Milwaukee Bucks

Previous Ranking: 4

The big question around the NBA is what is going on with the Milwaukee Bucks. Yes, the same Milwaukee Bucks who were one of the hottest teams in the NBA to start the season have struggled to put wins up in the win column of late winning just five of their last 10 games to drop their overall record to 33-18 on the season.

The recent stretch led to the firing of head coach Adiran Griffin and the hiring of Doc Rivers to take over down the stretch.

However, the move has not paid off since with the team winning just one of four games with Rivers running the team. Good news for Bucks fans is the team has Giannis Antetokounmpo and Rivers has had a history of leading teams to the NBA Playoffs.

7. New York Knicks

Previous Ranking: Honorable Mention

Possibly the hottest team in the NBA the New York Knicks continue rolling along as they slowly move up the Eastern Conference Standings.

The Knicks are currently one of two teams in the NBA who have posted nine wins over their last 10 games with the Cleveland Cavaliers being the other team.

In addition to their recent play the Knicks continue to add talent to their roster including adding OG Anunoby in a trade with the Toronto Raptors who has averaged 15.6 points per game and 4.6 rebounds since being acquired.

The future looks bright for the Knicks moving forward including their trade deadline deal that added Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks.

6. Cleveland Cavaliers

Previous Ranking: Unranked

Joining the New York Knicks as one of the hottest teams in the NBA over the past month is the Cleveland Cavaliers who have won nine of their last 10 games including seven straight wins to push their overall record to 33-16.

The Cavaliers have taken care of business all season including posting a 21-10 record against teams within the Eastern Conference as well as a 12-6 record against the loaded Western Conference.

To add to that success since the new year kicked off the Cavaliers have only lost twice over a 17 game stretch. A stretch that included two wins over the Milwaukee Bucks, a win over the Sacramento Kings, and a win over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Their success on the defensive end of the floor has helped the team post the 4th best point differential in the NBA (+5.9) which has led to the team starting the season with 35 wins. The Timberwolves are led by Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns who are each averaging at least points per game to go along with at least five rebounds.

Loaded with a deep roster, the Nuggets currently feature six different players averaging at least 10.2 points per game including both Nikola Jokic (26.3) and Jamal Murray (21.0) who are averaging at least 20 points per game.

While the Nuggets are talented on the offensive end, the team’s defense has been their bright spot while allowing the 4th fewest number of points per game on the season (110.6).

2. Los Angeles Clippers

Previous Ranking: Unranked

Just a few months back many teams had written off the Los Angeles Clippers after trading for James Harden and starting the season with five straight losses.

The team’s recent success includes winning four of their last five games as well as 9 of their last 11 and 12 of their last 15 overall climb the standings board.

While all eyes have been on the big three of Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and James Harden, it has been their role players including Russell Westbrook, Ivica Zubac, and Norman Powell who have contributed big over their recent stretch.
