Francis Ngannou is back in title contention and the options are open for big things in his future after his KO win against Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Not only could the fighter from Cameroon be fighting for the belt once again against Stipe Miocic or an Interim Heavyweight title against Daniel Cormier but he could be in a Super Fight with Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones. The two exchanged Twitter jabs against each other after Jones watched Ovince Saint Preux’s Heavyweieght debut against Ben Rothwell. Yes, Dana White put the brakes on the fight but now the fight is in the air. Vegas has fight odds with Ngannou as the betting favorite.
What a bounce back for the 6’4 255 lbs Heavyweight known as the Predator. Ngannou took a lot of heat after his losses vs Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic and Derrick Lewis. Miocic wore Ngannou out for five rounds in their title fight and his next fight against Lewis was so bad he had to post an apology on his Instagram. Now Ngannou is on a four fight win streak and looks even scarier than before. The power he posses can take out anyone below him in the rankings. What has me curious is how much of his cardio and wrestling has improved since the Miocic fight. Cormier and Miocic are the only fighters in the division that can test that.
- 10. Cheick Kongo, Bellator
The French fighter Cheick Kongo is coming off a No Contest against Bellator Heavyweight Champion Ryan Bader due to eye pokes. Congo was on an 8 fight win streak before fighting for the belt which earns him a spot at number 10. A rematch vs Bader should be next after signing his multi fight contract with Bellator. If that takes too long since Bader will be defending his Light Heavyweight title against Vadim Nemkov then he should take on Sergei Kharitonov.
- 9. Derrick Lewis, UFC
The “Black Beast” Derrick Lewis bounced back against his TKO loss against Junior dos Santos by winning two in a row against Ilir Latifi and Blagoy Ivanov. Lewis should continue his build up by fighting one more fight outside the top ten like Alexander Volkov or Augusto Sakai.
- 8. Junior dos Santos, UFC
Junior dos Santos is just barely hanging on at number 7. The Brazilian’s last two losses were by KO vs Curtis Blaydes and Francis Ngannou. Nothing to be ashamed about but the only thing keeping him here is his TKO win vs Derrick Lewis in March. Santos needs a win and someone outside the top 10 like Alexander Volkov or Augusto Sakai.
- 7. Ryan Bader, Bellator, Champion
Darth Bader has been on a tear since leaving the UFC by winning 5 in a row in Bellator while securing two titles becoming a dual Champion for Bellator as their Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight Champion. We’ll have to wait for him to defend his Heavyweight title since he takes on Vadim Nemkov in the near future.
- 6. Alistair Overeem, UFC
The Reem’s TKO victory over Walt Harris has placed him closer to his last chance becoming a UFC Champion. In his way are fighters he has lost to except for former Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier. That fight would never happen since Cormier is looking for his rematch fight against current Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic before he retires. Now that leaves rematches to avenge at least one of his losses. Jairzinho Rozenstruik just got finished by Francis Ngannou. So that leaves Overeem facing the winner of Curtis Blaydes vs Alexander Volkov which takes place on June 20th.
- 5. Jairzinho Rozenstruik, UFC
Fast riser Jairzinho Rozenstruik took his first loss a couple weeks ago against Francis Ngannou. He can bounce back against the loser of Curtis Blaydes vs Alexander Volkov to get his momentum going again.
- 4. Curtis Blaydes, UFC
Curtis Blaydes is coming off a great win vs Junior dos Santos and he has a fight coming up against Alexander Volkov. We don’t know how long Stipe Miocic will be out so if Blaydes wins he could be closer to a title fight.
- 3. Francis Ngannou, UFC
Francis Ngannou’s win over Jairzinho Rozenstruik places Ngannou next in line for the Heavyweight title. We’re not so sure how patient Dana White is when it comes to Stipe Miocic so I wouldn’t be surprised if Ngannou fought for Miocic stripped title. That could be against Daniel Cormier even if Cormier jokingly said he wouldn’t want to fight him.
- 2. Daniel Cormier, UFC
Daniel Cormier is at number 2 and is waiting on Stipe Miocic for a rematch for the Heavyweight Championship. The way the former dual champion is talking this would be his last fight. I was listening to this past DC & Helwani podcast and Cormier said something interesting. If you disqualify everyone that has failed a steroid test on the Pound For Pound list (like any other sport) then DC is Top 5 of all time and if he wins against Stipe Miocic to become a 2 time champion he could be one of the greatest of all time. I mean if you really think about it he is not lying.
- 1. Stipe Miocic, UFC, Champion
The UFC Heavyweight Champion is currently recovering from a procedure to repair a torn retina so we’ll have to wait till he gets better. We already know the trilogy fight is next against Daniel Cormier but we don’t know how long that will last. Dana White has threatened to strip the title away from Miocic. Hopefully that doesn’t happen and the trilogy isn’t taken away from us as both fights were exciting to watch.
The next Inaugural Rankings will be on the Welterweights as we discuss the rise and fall of Tyrone Woodley. We’d love to get your input on those rankings so join now and begin ranking so we can weigh your input into our rankings next time.
