The goalkeeper is arguably the most underrated player in the field, yet they are so important.

Because they don’t run around, they are not given enough credit for their contributions to the game.

However, the saves some of them make are the difference between losing and winning.

This week, we look at the top goalkeepers in Europe and focus on Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy, who made a crucial save in their last league game to keep them unbeaten under Thomas Tuchel.

Frank Lampard signed the Senegalese goalkeeper after he grew tired of the clangers of Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Mendy has proven to be an inspired signing and that save which earned the Blues a clean sheet against Leeds United at the weekend means he has 14 clean sheets in 24 Premier League games this season.

Overall, he has 19 clean sheets from 32 competitive games this season and that has earned him a Whoscored average rating of 7.19 in the Premier League.

He is our goalkeeper of the week, but he is behind Manchester City’s Ederson in the clean sheet table as the Brazilian has 16 from 29 Premier League games.
