Goalkeepers are one of the most important members of a football team, but they are easily blamed for the howlers they commit. Unlike strikers and other outfield players, they hardly get the credit that they deserve.

However, the likes of Liverpool’s Allison have begun to change how people see the goalkeeper role.

In this article, we look at the top goalies of the year so far.

10. Gianluigi Donnarumma, AC Milan Serie A

Donnarumma is the youngest on this list and at the age of just 21, he would rise to become the best goalkeeper in the world with time.

He has been an ever-present in the Milan team since he made his debut for them at the age of 16.

He has continued to develop fine and has kept 11 clean sheets in 26 league games for Milan this season, according to

9. Roman Bürki, Borussia Dortmund, Bundesliga

Burki is one of the most underrated goalkeepers in Europe, but the Swiss goalie is one of the best in the world.

His impressive form is one reason why Dortmund sustained a serious title challenge this season.

He kept 13 clean sheets in 31 league games and kept 15 clean sheets in all competitions for the Germans.

8. Keylor Navas, PSG, Ligue 1

Navas is one of the best piece of business that PSG has done in recent seasons after they landed him from Real Madrid in the summer.

The Costa Rican won three Champions League titles with Real Madrid and he is looking to help PSG win their first this season.

He has kept 17 clean sheets from 31 games in all competitions this season.

7. Wojciech Szczęsny, Juventus, Serie A

When it comes to Wojciech Szczęsny, Arsenal’s loss has become Juventus’ gain with the Poland international now firmly established as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

He has been at Juventus since 2017 and his fine form in goal has allowed Juventus to let Gianluigi Buffon leave them before he returned.

He has kept 10 clean sheets in just 21 league games this season and continues to prove his worth for the team.

6. Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid, La Liga

Courtois made the worst possible start for Real Madrid, but the Belgian has now gotten better and looks to be a more assured signing.

He has been important as Real Madrid looks to win yet another La Liga crown this season.

The Belgian has kept 15 clean sheets in 29 league games for Zinedine Zidane’s team this season.

5. Ederson Moraes, Manchester City, Premier League

Ederson is one signing that transformed Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City from a nearly team to Premier League winners.

His signing has been an inspired one, and he has redefined what it means to play out from the back with his impressive kicking and accurate passing.

The Brazilian has been in fine form this season, he has kept 12 clean sheets in 28 Premier League games.

4. Manuel Neuer, Bayern Munich, Bundesliga

Manuel Neuer has been one of the world’s best for a very long time, yet the German doesn’t look like stopping. He is even keeping one of the world’s best goalkeepers on the bench in the German national team.

At the age of 34, he is going strong, and he has kept 15 clean sheets in 33 league games for Bayern Munich this season.

3. Marc-André ter Stegen, Barcelona, La Liga

Marc-André ter Stegen is arguably the best German goalkeeper at the moment, yet his stunning saves for Barcelona has been unable to help him become the German national team’s first choice.

His fine form is one of the reasons why Barcelona is still challenging for the Champions League and La Liga title this season.

He has kept 12 clean sheets from 31 league games this season.

2. Alisson Becker, Liverpool, Premier League

The signing of Alisson changed Liverpool from title challengers to the best team in Europe.

He has helped the Reds win the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup, and the Premier League in less than two seasons.

The Brazilian has redefined the goalkeeping role in the Liverpool team. He has kept 14 clean sheets from 22 league games this season. He has actually conceded fewer goals than the number of clean sheets he has kept.

1. Jan Oblak, Atletico Madrid, La Liga

Oblak remains arguably the most reliable goalkeeper in the world at the moment and the Slovenian is the master of making jaw-dropping saves time and time again.

He has been one reason why Atletico is able to make a late charge for the Champions League places despite starting the season poorly.

He has kept 19 clean sheets in all competitions for the Spaniards this season.

Goalkeepers are just as important as strikers because the saves they make most times are the reason their teams remain in games. These goalkeepers have proven to be the best this season.
