Luis Suarez returned from injury to help Atletico Madrid win the Spanish league title on the last day of the season. 

That was a fitting end to an impressive season for the Uruguayan who had been forced out of Barcelona at the start. 

Suarez remains one of the world’s best strikers and it was surprising that Barca thought they had to let him go. 

He had been declared surplus to requirements as Ronald Koeman arrived to become their new manager. 

After having his move to Juventus collapse, he joined Atletico and has now proven his doubters wrong. 

He was the difference-maker for them this season as he scored important goals which gave them narrow wins and kept them in the hunt for the title. 

He returned from injury to help Atleti win four of their last five games and lost none.

He scored twice in his last two league games of the season including the goal which handed them the title. 

He ended the campaign with 21 league goals from 32 games to earn the right to be highlighted by us this week. 

Harry Kane also had a fine end to the season after scoring a goal against Leicester City to scoop the Premier League’s Golden Boot. 

Robert Lewandowski also broke the Bundesliga record for the number of goals scored in a single season, but Suarez did what many thought he couldn’t do anymore.
