The Best WNBA Team Right Now!

The 2025 WNBA season delivered high-octane drama, standout performances, and unforgettable storylines. From record-smashing rookies and legendary veterans to strategic masterclasses on the sidelines, the league once again showed why it is one of the most exciting properties in professional sports. WNBA fans went to the arenas across the country and tuned in from home to witness the Las Vegas Aces take home their third WNBA Championship over the past four WNBA seasons. The strong season landed the Aces atop the Top 10 Best WNBA Teams 2025 Rankings list.

As the confetti settles on the court in Las Vegas and the offseason buzz begins, it’s time to look back and recognize the teams that defined 2025. This year brought seismic shifts, a blockbuster expansion, the continued rise of generational stars, and teams that overachieved, underachieved, or surpassed all expectations.

Judging the best squads isn’t just about final records, but also about resilience, growth, and their impact on the basketball landscape. This includes a strong bounce back season from the Phoenix Mercury, the growth of the Indiana Fever despite the loss of Caitlin Clark for most of the season, and a disappointing ending to a marvelous season from the Minnesota Lynx.

Here is a look at the Top 10 Best WNBA Teams 2025 Rankings:

Honorable Mention

Connecticut Sun

WNBA Standings: 11th (11-33)

Previous Ranking: Honorable mention

The Connecticut Sun may have missed the top ten on the Top 10 Best WNBA Teams 2025 Rankings list, but their balanced execution and defensive identity kept them relevant for portions of the WNBA season.

After losing multiple key veterans over the previous seasons, the Sun’s posted three players averaging at least 10 points per game led by veteran Tina Charles. However the team struggled with injuries and consistency all season averaging a league low 75.7 points per game while allowing the third most points in the league at 86 points per game.

Top 10 WNBA Teams 2025 Rankings

10. Washington Mystics

WNBA Standings: 10th (16-28)

Previous Ranking: 7Th

Rounding out the Top 10 Best WNBA Teams 2025 Rankings list is the Washington Mystics who finished the season with a 16-28 overall record.

However, after a strong 16-18 start to the season, the Mystics battled injuries down the stretch and could not find any type of rhythm as a team losing 10 straight games to wrap up the season. The disappointing 10 game stretch left the Mystics out of the WNBA playoffs.

The future however looks promising for the young Mystics roster with four players posting at least 12.7 points per game. A group that includes 2025 WNBA Draft picks Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen opening up bright expectations for the team in 2026.

9. Los Angeles Sparks

WNBA Standings: 9th (21-23)

Previous Ranking: 10th

Los Angeles exceeded expectations with a young and hungry roster that improved from an 8-32 record last season to a 21-23 record this season.

Headlined by a strong scoring attack that finished second in the WNBA averaging 85.6 points per game the Sparks were competitive for most of the season. WIth the addition of Kelsey Plum in free agency and a strong core that included veterans Dearic Hamby and Azura Stevens as well as 2024 WNBA first round pick Rickea Jackson who each averaged at least 12.8 points per game.

The big concern all season was the team’s fundamental defense that allowed a league high 88.2 points per game.

8. Seattle Storm

WNBA Standings: 7th (23-21)

Previous Ranking: 4th

The Storm re-emerged as a force in 2025 after spending the off-season making moves to improve the team both over the short haul as well as for the future.

The moves allowed the Storm to secure the seventh seed within the WNBA standings with a strong 23-21 record. Despite losing Jewell Loyd during the off-season, the Storm posted four players to play at least 43 games during the regular season with each player averaging at least 10.3 points per game.

Leading that charge was WNBA veteran Nneka Ogwumike who posted 18.3 points per game to go along with seven rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. Another strong off-season could have the Storm heading into the 2026 WNBA season as a WNBA title contender.

7. Golden State Valkyries

WNBA Standings: 8th (23-21)

Previous Ranking: 9th

The Golden State Valkyries stunned the league in their inaugural season by competing at a high level against some of the top WNBA teams in the league.

As the freshest face within the league the Valkyries built a strong roster through the WNBA expansion draft including adding key stars Veronica Burton, Kayla Thornton, and Monique Billings while also adding rookie Janelle Salaun and veteran Tiffany Hayes through free agency.

While the team dealt with a variety of injuries and tribulations all season the team finished the season with a 23-21 record while securing the 8th and final WNBA playoff spot. After a strong entrance into the league expectations are high for the Bay area team for next season.

6. Atlanta Dream

WNBA Standings: 3rd (30-14)

Previous Ranking: 5th

The Atlanta Dream took the next leap toward title contention with a fast-paced offense that produced results all season.

The Dream produced on both ends of the floor all season posting the fourth most points per game at 84.4 per game while their strong defense finished the season third in the league allowing just 76.8 points per game. The strong play helped the Dream create a 7.6 point differential while securing a 30-14 overall record and a third place finish.

However, despite the strong regular season the Dream struggled in the playoffs falling to the Indiana Fever. Despite the early exit, the dream will return with WNBA Title aspirations for the 2026 season.

5. New York Liberty

Breanna Stewart

WNBA Standings: 5th (27-17)

Previous Ranking: 3rd

Sliding in at number five on the Top 10 Best WNBA Teams 2025 Rankings list is the defending WNBA Champions the New York Liberty.

The Liberty continued to be one of the WNBA’s marquee attractions, and 2025 was no exception. With one of the league-best scoring offenses posting 84.4 points per game, the Liberty posted another strong season winning 27 of 24 games and earning a spot within the WNBA Playoffs.

The Liberty roster featured four players to post at least 10.1 points per game while appearing in at least 31 games including Breanna Stewart that led the team averaging 18.8 points per game. However injuries at times limited Stewart and Jonquel Jones to just 31 games while Emma Meesseman appeared in just 17 total games.

A healthy 2026 season and the Liberty should be fighting for their second WNBA Championship.

4. Indiana Fever

Caitlin-Clark-Indiana-Fever

WNBA Standings: 6th (24-20)

Previous Ranking: 6th

The Indiana Fever was arguably the best story of the 2025 WNBA season and the playoffs after losing All-Star Caitlin Clark for most of the season.

Without Clark down the stretch the Fever finished the season with a 24-20 record winning six of their final 10 games to secure the sixth seed. In addition to the strong finish, the Fever also won the in-season Commissioner Cup during the season, knocking off a loaded Minnesota Lynx team. Kelsey Mitchell delivered all season averaging 20.2 points per game while both Aliyah Boston and Natasha Howard delivered double digit scoring each game.

The success didn’t slow down during the regular season as the Fever knocked off series favorites the Atlanta Dream to open up the playoffs. The success would end however in the semi-finals after a disappointing 107-98 overtime loss in game five to the eventual WNBA Champions the Las Vegas Aces.

3. Phoenix Mercury

WNBA Standings: 4th (27-17)

Previous Ranking: 2nd

Heading into the 2025 WNBA season, the Phoenix Mercury had a ton of question marks after long time guard Diana Taurasi retired and Britney Griner left during free agency.

However, a busy off-season with the additions of Alyssa Thomas, Satou Sabaly, and DeWanna Bonner delivered the team a strong veteran core alongside returning guard Kahleah Copper. The moves paid off as the Mercury finished the season with a strong 27-17 record while averaging 82.8 points per game.

The combination of Thomas, Sabally, Bonner and Copper each averaged 10.9 points per game while also adding veteran leadership throughout the regular season and more importantly during the playoffs. The Mercury would storm to the WNBA Finals before being swept by a loaded Las Vegas Aces roster.

2. Minnesota Lynx

Napheesa Collier

WNBA Standings: 1st (34-10)

Previous Ranking: 1st

It is hard to look past the success the Minnesota Lynx had during the regular season rolling to a league best 34-10 record while averaging a league high 86.1 points per game.

The success didn’t stop on the offensive end of the floor as the Lynx allowed just 76.7 points per game and finished second in fewest number of points allowed per game. Led by WNBA MVP runner up Napheesa Collier who finished the season averaging 22.9 points per game to go along with 7.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.5 blocked shots the Lynx put together one of their best seasons ever.

That success failed to roll over in the playoffs and a key injury to Collier saw their season come to an end early against a strong Phoenix Mercury roster.

1. Las Vegas Aces

Aja-Wilson

WNBA Standings: 2nd (30-14)

Previous Ranking: 8th

Securing the top spot among the Top 10 Best WNBA Teams 2025 Rankings list is the Las Vegas Aces.

The Aces reigned supreme once more, continuing their dynasty with another dominant performance sweeping the Phoenix Mercury to secure their third WNBA Championship over the past four seasons. The Aces who lost veteran Kelsey Plum to free agency added talented scorer and long time veteran Jewell Loyd to their roster. A move that added veteran leadership and a core weapon on the floor all season.

Loyd joined a roster led by WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson, Jackie Young, and Chelsea Gray who would win 16 straight games to end the regular season. The success continued throughout the playoffs as the Aces knocked off strong rosters of the Seattle Storm, Indiana Fever, and Phoenix Mercury to secure the championship.

Cheryl Reeve’s squad combines suffocating defense with high-level execution on offense, averaging nearly 85 points per game while allowing just over 75. Even after a minor stumble in the Commissioner’s Cup Final, the Lynx bounced back with a statement win over Phoenix. They are the clear title favorites.
