NHL Player Rankings by Position

Left Wings

Jonathan Huberdeau

Team: Florida Panthers

2022 Stats: 30 Goals, 85 Assists, 115 Points

It is kind of interesting that Quebec, Canada has the fewest players drafted from their province and then Jonathan Huberdeau comes along and leads all left wingers in all points this 2021-2022 NHL season.

The Saint-Jerome native came onto the scene in 2013 and never touched the American Hockey League, even winning the Calder Memorial Trophy.

This season he has led his Florida Panthers to an Atlantic Division Title and had a very good chance at winning the Stanley Cup. This season in 80 games played he has 30 goals and 85 assists for 115 points this season.

During the free agents signing window, Huberdeau signed with the Calgary Flames and will be continue that momentum in the 2022-2023 NHL regular season.

Runner Up: Johnny Gaudreau – Calgary Flames

Right Wings

Mikko Rantanen

Team: Colorado Avalanche

2022 Stats: 36 Goals, 56 Assists, 92 Points

Mikko Rantanen is 2nd in scoring by right wingers and he is #1 on this list because of his ability to carry the Colorado Avalanche without Nathan MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog.

In this 2021-2022 NHL season he has scored 36 goals and 56 assists for 92 points in 75 games played.

Runner Up: Mitch Marner – Toronto Maple Leafs

Defensemen

Cale Makar

Team: Colorado Avalanche

2022 Stats: 28 Goals, 58 Assists, 86 Points

Cale Makar was one decision away from being the second pick in his 2017 NHL Entry draft class, but poor decision making by the Philadelphia Flyers made them miss out.

Cale Makar exploded onto the scene after his time at UMass-Amherst finished during the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs and scored 6 points in ten games.

Since then, he has been a career PPG player. This 2021-2022 season Cale Makar led defensemen in goals scored at 28 and had 58 assists for 86 points.

Runner Up: Roman Josi – Nasvhville Predators

Centers

Connor McDavid

Team: Edmonton Oilers

2022 Stats: 44 Goals, 79 Assists, 123 Points

Connor McDavid, the next Sidney Crosby, is one of the best drafted players since Wayne Gretzky.

McDavid consistently hits career highs and the 2021-2022 NHL season is no different. He has hit a career high with 44 goals and 79 assists for 123 points in 80 games. Pretty insane but it means nothing without a Cup.

Runner Up: Nathan MacKinnon – Colorado Avalanche

Goalies

Igor Shesterkin

Team: New York Rangers

2022 Stats: 106 Goals Allowed

Igor Shesterkin is the best goalie in the National Hockey League this season. A pro when he came over from the Kontinental Hockey League and an Olympic Gold Medalist in 2018, Shesterkin was all but ready to pick up the mask after Henrik Lundqvist put it down to retire.

Like many goalies on this list he was drafted in 2014 in the 4th round. With an insane 1,622 shots in his direction, he turned away 1,516 from his net.

He allowed 106 goals on the season, not the lowest but impressive nonetheless. He went 36-13-4 this NHL season with an SV% of .935 and a GAA of 2.07.

Runner Up: Frederik Anderson – Carolina Hurricanes

NHL Coaches

Jared Bednar

Team: Colorado Avalanche

2022 Stats: 56 Wins, 19 Losses, 4 OTL

Jared Bednar is the best coach in the NHL, and has been for a long time. After Roy left the Colorado Avalanche right before camp opened, the Avalanche were in trouble.

Bednar was promoted from the farm team Colorado Eagles and in his first season with the Avalanche the team went 22-56-4, which produced one of the worst seasons in NHL history.

Jump six years forward and Bednar became the first coach in hockey history to win the Kelly Cup, Calder Cup and Stanley Cup. The 3 years of 2nd round losses don’t matter anymore.

Runner Up: Darryl Sutter – Calgary Flames
