Ranking the best College Football Players this month in the 2022- 2023 NCAA Football season as C.J. Stroud leads the way

The 2022 College Football Schedule is heating up as the calendar rolls into mid-September and the slow march to fall arrives.

As you start to look around the college football rankings and statistics many great college football teams and college football players have made impacts to start the season.

The big question as the final college football Saturday of the month, is which top tier college football stars have made their mark while earning a spot on the Top 10 College Football Players 2022 rankings September list.

 

Two players who continue to put together a strong college resume are Heisman hopefuls C.J. Stroud of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Bryce Young of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

As these two top tier quarterbacks continue to perform, a long list of stars has made their case to start the season.

The group includes Stetson Bennett of the Georgia Bulldogs, Bentlee Sanders of the Nevada Wolf Pack, and Caleb Williams of the USC Trojans. Here is a look at the Top 10 College Football Players 2022 rankings September. 

Honorable Mention

Xander Mueller

School: Northwestern Wildcats

Position: Linebacker
Previous: Unranked

Just missing the Top 10 on the Top 10 College Football Players 2022 rankings September list is the Northwestern Wildcats junior linebacker Xander Mueller.

Mueller, who is coming off just 19 tackles, a half sack, one forced fumble, and a fumble recovery is putting together a strong season in 2022.

The former three-star recruit is making a strong case among defensive players in 2022 racking up 20 tackles to go along with six sacks, two interceptions, and one pass defended over the teams first three games.

His biggest performance of the year came in the team’s 31-28 win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers to start the season finishing with five sacks.

Charlie Jones

School: Purdue Boilermakers

Position: Wide Receiver
Previous: Unranked

The Purdue Boilermakers senior wide receiver Charlie Jones is slowly putting it all together as he becomes one of the team’s main weapons to start the 2022 College Football Schedule.

Jones, who had not caught more than 21 passes or 395 yards receiving, has surpassed both through the team’s first three games.

In those three games Jones has caught at least nine passes in each contest to go along with at least 133 yards and one touchdown reception.

Overall Jones has racked up 474 yards receiving to go along with five touchdown receptions on 32 total catches to start the season.

10. Bentlee Sanders

School: Nevada Wolf Pack

Position: Defensive Back
Previous: Unranked

Landing at the bottom of the Top 10 College Football Players 2022 rankings September list is the Nevada Wolf Pack star defensive back Bentlee Sanders. Sanders, who is from Tampa, Florida is putting together his best season on the football field as a senior.

Through the team’s first four games of the season, Sanders has racked up 23 tackles to go along with four interceptions, one forced fumble, four interceptions, one interception returned for a touchdown, and one pass defended.

9. Mohamed Ibrahim

School: Minnesota Golden Gophers

Position: Running Back
Previous: Unranked

The Minnesota Golden Gophers senior running back from Baltimore, Maryland is having a bounce back season after a down year in 2021 limiting his production.

Ibrahim, who had topped the 1,000-yard mark in three of the previous four years posted just 163 yards last season. So far through the Golden Gophers three wins to start the season, Ibrahim has rushed for at least 130 yards and two touchdowns in each contest.

Ibrahim entered play before the last college football Saturday, ranked 2nd in the country in rushing yards (464) and tied for 1st in the country in rushing touchdowns (7).

8. Jalen Carter

School: Georgia Bulldogs

Position: Defensive Tackle
Previous: #4

All eyes are focused on the Georgia Bulldogs to start the 2022 NCAA Football Schedule as the team has high hopes of repeating as National Champions.

One of those stars that NFL scouts as well as college football fans and experts are watching is the highly talented defensive tackle Jalen Carter.

The former five-star defensive tackle from Florida continues to be a key weapon for the Bulldogs this season while helping the team dominate on the defensive side of the football.

While the stats might not show up, Carter has been a disruptive force on the line while freeing up his teammates to make big plays.

7. Jordan Addison

School: USC Trojans

Position: Wide Receiver
Previous: #10

Jordan Addison lands on the Top 10 College Football Players 2022 rankings September list as the only wide receiver slotted in.

Addison, who is coming off a huge 1,593 yard receiving season last season to go along with 100 catches and 17 touchdowns, has been a key target of transfer quarterback Caleb Williams to start the season.

Addison has pulled in 18 catches over the first three games of the season while adding 295 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

His performance to start the season comes against teams looking to double team him off the line of scrimmage.

6. Bijan Robinson

School: Texas Longhorns

Position: Running Back
Previous: #5

Potentially one of the first running backs expected off the 2023 NFL Draft board is the Texas Longhorns junior star Bijan Robinson.

Robinson, who racked up 1,127 rushing yards, 295 receiving yards, and 15 total touchdowns last season is on pace to top those numbers in 2022.

His strongest performance of the season came in the teams 41-20 win over UTSA as Robinson rushed for 183 yards to go along with three rushing touchdowns.

In each of the team’s contests this season, Robinson topped the 100-yard combined receiving/rushing mark.

5. Caleb Williams

School: USC Trojans

Position: Quarterback
Previous: #9

In number five on the Top 10 College Football Players 2022 rankings September list is the former highly touted recruit Caleb Williams.

Williams, who elected to follow Lincoln Riley from the Oklahoma Sooners to the USC Trojans has been brilliant to start the season.

In three games this season Williams has thrown for 874 yards and eight touchdowns to zero interceptions while completing 74.4 percent of his passes.

In addition, the Trojans quarterback has added 73 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns to his numbers.

4. Will Anderson Jr.

School: Alabama Crimson Tide

Position: Outside Linebacker
Previous: #3

One of the other potential number one overall picks during the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft, Will Anderson Jr continues to play at a high level.

The Alabama Crimson Tide Will Anderson Jr has racked up 15 tackles over the teams first three games of the season while posting sacks in back-to-back games.

In addition to those numbers, Anderson Jr has also added one interception that was returned 25 yards for a defensive touchdown.

3. Bryce Young

School: Alabama Crimson Tide

Position: Quarterback
Previous: #1

When looking at the top three players in college football to start the season the three continue to be quarterbacks as Bryce Young lands at number three.

The Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback who is coming off winning the Heisman Trophy last season has thrown for 644 yards to start the season to go along with nine touchdown passes.

His success doesn’t stop there as he has the legs to make his opponents miss as he has racked up 144 rushing yards and two touchdowns to add to his passing performance.

2. Stetson Bennett

School: Georgia Bulldogs

Position: Quarterback
Previous: Unranked

After throwing for 2,862 yards last season, the Georgia Bulldogs senior quarterback has continued to perform at a high level to start the season.

Through his first three games of the 2022 College Football Season, Stetson Bennett has thrown 952 to go along with five passing touchdowns to zero interceptions while also rushing for three rushing touchdowns.

Currently Bennett ranks 11th in overall passing yards, tied for first with zero interceptions thrown, and fifth in QBR with a 92.9 mark.

1. C.J. Stroud

School: Ohio State Buckeyes

Position: Quarterback

Landing at number one on the Top 10 College Football Players 2022 rankings September list is the Ohio State Buckeyes junior quarterback C.J. Stroud.

Stroud, who many expect to be the first quarterback taken during the 2022 NFL draft, is building on his already strong college football resume.

Stroud, who threw for 223 and two touchdowns in the team’s key 21-10 win over the 5th ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish, has passed for at least 350 yards in the two games following. 

Through his first three games, Stroud has thrown for 941 yards to go along with 11 passing touchdowns, zero interceptions and a 94.6 QBR mark.
