The Madness of March is in full swing as the 2022 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournaments heads into Final Four Weekend. With only four teams remaining from the original field of 68 teams, it allows everyone a chance to relax and analyze the 2021-22 NCAA Men’s Basketball season. After a crazy first few weeks of the NCAA tournament, it is easy to see how crazy the NCAA Basketball schedule was during the regular season.

Now after a strong run by a few teams into the Elite 8 as well as into the Final Four. Two teams that have seen themselves move up the Top 10 NCAA BB Men’s Teams rankings are the one seeded Kansas Jayhawks and the two seeded Duke Blue Devils.

Both teams have had up and down seasons but as you look at their success as well as their loaded rosters, it is hard to look past how good these two teams are. In addition, the Gonzaga Bulldogs are still a very talented team while the Villanova Wildcats have a deep roster loaded with playmakers.

With that said, here is our list of the Top 10 NCAA Basketball Men’s Teams

Honorable Mention

Arkansas Razorbacks

Season Record: 28-9

Tournament Results: Sweet 16

The Arkansas Razorbacks might have been one of the most underrated teams of the regular season as well as throughout the NCAA tournament. The Razorbacks are loaded with depth, having four different players average at least 10 points per game while having two other players average at least seven points per game.

Senior guard JD Notae led the charge for the Razorbacks averaging 18.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. During the regular season the Razorbacks were 4-1 against AP Top 25 ranked programs while also picking up a huge win over the Gonzaga Bulldogs during the NCAA tournament.

Kentucky Wildcats

Season Record: 26-8

Tournament Results: Round of 64

It’s easy for anyone to say a team isn’t as good as they were hyped up to be after an early exit during March Madness. However, when you look at this Kentucky Wildcats team, the team has stars from top to bottom that just ran into a hot team to start the tournament.

Five different Wildcats averaged at least 10 points this season while Oscar Tshiebwe averaged a double (17.4 ppg and 15.1 rpg). The Wildcats had notable wins over ranked teams including the Tennessee Volunteers, Alabama Crimson Tide, North Carolina Tar Heels as well as the Kansas Jayhawks.

Top 10 Men’s Basketball Rankings

10. Auburn Tigers

Season Record: 28-6

Tournament Results: Round of 32

When you look at the SEC conference, it is hard to not like what we all saw this year from many of their top tier programs including the Auburn Tigers. The Tigers came out of nowhere to surprise many within the conference after finishing the season with 28-6 record while sitting atop the SEC Conference.

The Tigers went on a run starting on November 25th, 2021, with a key 62-53 win over Loyola Chicago to start the team’s 19 game winning streak, a streak that saw the team pick up two Top 25 wins against SEC opponents. Freshman Jabari Smith was the team’s key playmaker averaging 16.9 points per game to go along with 7.4 rebounds.

9. UCLA Bruins

Season Record: 27-8

Tournament Results: Sweet 16

After a deep 2021 NCAA Tournament run that saw the UCLA Bruins fall short to Gonzaga within the Final Four in overtime, the hype and expectations were high for the team entering the 2021-22 NCAA Basketball schedule. Despite some struggles as well as some schedule issues due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Bruins finished the year with 27 wins to just eight losses while advancing to the Sweet 16.

In the year the Bruins picked up seven wins over their first eight games including an 86-77 win over the then 4th ranked Villanova Wildcats before issues arrived leading the team to four postponed contests and two canceled games over their next seven scheduled games. Despite all the issues the Bruins deep roster filled with NBA ready talent led the team on another deep postseason run.

8. Texas Tech Red Raiders

Season Record: 27-10

Tournament Results: Sweet 16

While the talk leading into the NCAA tournament was on how down the ACC conference was and how good the Big Ten conference was, many eyes looked past a few of the other conferences including the Big 12 despite the success the conference produced during the regular season.

That success showed up with the Texas Tech Red Raiders who finished the season with an overall record of 27-10 while advancing to the Sweet 16 before losing a tough matchup to the Duke Blue Devils. During the regular season the Red Raiders knocked AP Top 25 ranked teams the Baylor Bears and Texas Longhorns twice, the Kansas Jayhawks and the Tennessee Volunteers.

The Red Raiders had four different players average at least ten points, five different players average at least four rebounds per game and five different players to average at least one steal per contest.

7. Purdue Boilermakers

Season Record: 29-8

Tournament Results: Sweet 16

If any team had a whirlwind type of roller coaster ride season the Purdue Boilermakers would fit at the top of the list. The Boilermakers posted an overall record of 29-8 while reaching the number one spot among the AP Top 25 Men’s Basketball rankings at various points during the regular season while posting a 5-3 record against ranked programs.

The Boilermakers were led by sophomore stars Jaden Ivey and Zach Edey as well as senior Trevion Williams. The three combined to average 43 points a game while also adding 20 rebounds and 7.3 assists per contest. In addition, the team featured a total of 10 different players averaging at least 12 minutes per game.

6. Houston Cougars

Season Record: 32-6

Tournament Results: Elite 8

Another year has come and gone for the Houston Cougars while many fans and experts are looking right past them. While their season is over, the Cougars are a talented team that continues to find playmakers.

The same was said this season after the team made an impressive run to the Final Four bracket last season before eventually losing to the Baylor Bears, the team ran off three straight wins including wins over both Illinois Fighting Illini and one of the four number one seeded teams the Arizona Wildcats before losing to the Villanova Wildcats within the Elite Eight.

During the year the Cougars were as deep as a team having six different players average double figures, five different players average at least four rebounds and six players averaging at least one steal per game.

5. Arizona Wildcats

Season Record: 33-4

Tournament Results: Sweet 16

Coming in at number five on the Top 10 NCAA Basketball Men’s Teams is the Arizona Wildcats. The Wildcats are back as one of the power houses among NCAA men’s college basketball after going 31-3 on the year and finishing the regular season ranked second on the AP Top 25 Men’s Basketball rankings.

Leading the charge for the Wildcats was their sophomore stud guard Bennedict Mathurin who averaged 17.7 points per game to go along with 6.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists. Like many great teams that make deep runs the Wildcats got hot to end the season winning six straight games including wins over 16th seeded USC Trojans and the 13th seeded UCLA Bruins while taking home the Pac-12 Championship.

4. Villanova Wildcats

Season Record: 30-7

Tournament Results: Final Four

Sometimes it takes a deep postseason run to really allow fans and experts to notice how good a program really is. That is the case with the Villanova Wildcats who many looked past during the regular season as well as the start of the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament. The Wildcats are in pursuit of a second National Championship picking up wins over the Delaware Blue Hens, Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan Wolverines, and the Houston Cougars.

In addition to being one of the four teams remaining, the Wildcats posted an 8-5 record against teams ranked within the AP Top 25 rankings. Senior Collin Gillespie played a key role all season long averaging a team high 15.6 points per game to go along with 3.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists.

3. Gonzaga Bulldogs

Season Record: 28-4

Tournament Results: Sweet 16

With all the hype built around a possible NCAA National Championship, another disappointing end has arrived for a Gonzaga Bulldogs team that is loaded with talented stars. This includes a pair of potential NBA Draft Lottery Picks Drew Timme and Chet Holmgreen.

The pair combined to average 32.5 points per game to go along with 16.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 4.5 blocked shots per game. Holmgreen, a freshman and Timme, a junior both have a chance to return to potentially lead the Bulldogs on another run next season.

Overall, the Bulldogs finished the season with a 28-4 record while finishing the regular season ranked 1st in the AP Top 25 Men’s Basketball rankings.

2. Duke Blue Devils

Season Record: 32-6

Tournament Results: Final Four

The hype built around the retirement of Coach K, Mike Kryzewski put a toll on the players during both the regular season as well as the current NCAA tournament. However, this Duke Blue Devils team will not lose in route to another NCAA Final Four appearance while allowing Coach K to become the first coach in NCAA history to lead their program to a Final four in five different decades (1980’s, 1990’s, 2000’s, 2010’s and 2020’s).

Looking at this roster the team was led by five-star recruit Paola Banchero as well as other five stars 2021 recruits AJ Griffin and Trevor Keels. Banchero made an immediate impact leading the team both in points per game (17.1) and rebounds (7.7).

1. Kansas Jayhawks

Season Record: 32-6

Tournament Results: Final Four

Rounding out the Top 10 NCAA BB Men’s Teams rankings is the Kansas Jayhawks who are one of the three teams on this team left remaining among the NCAA tournament. The Jayhawks have been up and down for most of the season while winning 32 of 38 contests including four straight wins to move on to the Final Four.

During the regular season the Jayhawks were tested night in and night out while going 5-4 against AP Top 25 ranked programs including a key 74-65 win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders to take home the Big 12 Championship.

All-American guard Ochai Agbaji put together a brilliant season averaging 18.9 points per game to go along with 5.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game while continuing that success within the tournament. Along with Agbaji, three other Jayhawks have averaged at least 10 points a game while also averaging at least six rebounds per game. Bill Self and the Jayhawks look to continue their success with a 2022 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship.
