Ranking the best NBA Players after the 2023 NBA Championship as Nikola Jokic lead the Denver Nuggets to its first title and becoming 2023 NBA Finals MVP

The 2022-2023 National Basketball Association season is in the rear-view mirror as the Denver Nuggets finish off the season adding their first NBA Championship.

As the NBA offseason has just kicked off the opportunity to look back at the performances by the top NBA superstars. When you start to look at the Top 10 NBA Players 2023 Rankings list, the list is loaded with talented stars who put together strong performances across the NBA season as well as during the NBA playoffs.

Landing at the top of the list as the best NBA players in 2023 is the Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic. Jokic capped off another marvelous season on the court by helping to lead the Nuggets to the NBA Championship.

The Nuggets big man was as unselfish as any player in the NBA while also being as dominant as any other player as well. Joining Jokic on the list of the best basketball players in the NBA in 2023 is the Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid, the Dallas Mavericks point guard Luka Doncic, the Milwaukee Bucks MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, and the Boston Celtics young star Jayson Tatum. Trae Young

Team: Atlanta Hawks

When you look at some of the most dynamic scorers in the NBA, one player that stands out is the Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young.

Young who is as talented as any point guard in the NBA as well as one of the top NBA leading scorers on the hardwood night in and night out.

However, while Young is a dynamic scorer, the Hawks point guard is as unselfish as any player in the NBA while finishing averaging the third most assists per game with 10.2 per game.

Young finished the season joining just James Harden and Tyrese Haliburton to average a double double while averaging at least 10 assists per game.

Jaylen Brown

Team: Boston Celtics

Landing just outside of the Top NBA Players 2023 Rankings list is the Boston Celtics shooting guard Jaylen Brown. Brown along with teammate Jayson Tatum forms one of the best one two punches in the NBA while also being one of the best young duos in the NBA.

The Celtics shooting guard is coming off finishing the season setting career highs in scoring averaging 26.6 points per game, along with a career high in rebounds averaging 6.9 rebounds per game. In 20 NBA Playoff games, Brown also averaged 22.7 points per game to go along with 5.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game.

Anthony Davis

Team: Los Angeles Lakers

Previous Ranking: Unranked

Landing just outside of the Top 10 NBA Players 2023 rankings list is the Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis. Davis, who when healthy ranks among the best players in the NBA and one of the best big men in all of basketball.

The Lakers center finished the season appearing in 56 games while leading the NBA averaging 12.5 rebounds per game. In addition, Davis averaged 25.9 points per game to go along with 2.6 assists, two blocked shots, and 1.1 steals per game.

Donovan Mitchell

Team: Cleveland Cavaliers

Previous Ranking: Unranked

One of the best off-season moves entering the 2022-23 NBA Season was the Cleveland Cavaliers trade for proven young star Donovan Mitchell.

Mitchell didn’t disappoint in his first season with the Cavaliers while helping the team finish with a 51-31 record and the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference.

Mitchell finished the season ranked 10th in the NBA while averaging 28.3 points per game to go along with 4.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists while shooting 48.4 from the field.

10. Shai-Gilgeous-Alexander

Team: Oklahoma City Thunder

Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 NBA Players 2023 Rankings list is the Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

A name that is still unrecognizable by a large portion of the NBA fan base despite finishing the 2022-23 NBA season ranked 4th in the NBA in scoring while averaging 31.4 points per game.

Gilgeous-Alexander finished off the season joining five other NBA players averaging at least 30 points per game while appearing in at least 55 NBA games.

While the Thunder are an up-and-coming team, the team’s star point guard delivers the team a talented weapon who can also rebound (4.8 rpg) and find opening shooters (5.5 apg).

9. Kevin Durant

Team: Phoenix Suns

Previous Ranking: 10

When healthy Kevin Durant is one of the best players in the NBA if not the best player in the NBA. That said, the Phoenix Suns power forward continues to struggle to stay healthy each season while still finding a way to put together strong performances while on the floor.

During another interesting season which saw the MVP caliber All-Star land with the Phoenix Suns after a mid-season trade, Durant would finish the season averaging 29.1 points per game to go along with 6.7 rebounds, and five assists per game.

In the NBA playoffs, the Sun’s power forward continued to dominate averaging 29 points per game over 11 games.

8. Stephen Curry

Team: Golden State Warriors

Previous Ranking: 9

Over the past five NBA seasons Stephen Curry has ranked among the best players in the NBA while being as dominant of a scorer as any player in the league.

Curry, who can shoot nearly anywhere on the floor and nearly anywhere behind the three-point line continues to be a threat each night on the hardwood.

Coming off helping the Warriors win their fourth NBA Championship during the 2021-22 NBA season, Curry continues to be nearly unguardable while finishing the season averaging 29.4 points per game while shooting 42.7 percent from behind the three-point line.

Despite the off the court drama surrounding the Warriors, Curry helped the Warriors make another run to the NBA Playoffs.

7. Damian Lillard

Team: Portland Trail Blazers

Previous Ranking: #6

The veteran Portland Trail Blazers point guard was as healthy as we have seen of him over the past few NBA seasons, and he showcased his abilities as one of the top overall point guards as well as players in the league.

The former Weber State star finished the season posting his second 30 plus scoring average mark of his NBA career and first since the 2019-20 NBA season.

Lillard would go on to finish the 2022-23 NBA season ranked third in the NBA averaging 32.2 points per game across 58 total games. In addition, Lillard averaged 7.3 assists per game and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 46.3 percent from the field.

6. LeBron James

Team: Los Angeles Lakers

Previous Ranking: #7

Another year older, another year wiser, and another year of being one of the top talents in the NBA. LeBron James continues to showcase his talents no matter the season while being one of the most versatile and unique players to ever play the game of basketball.

The Los Angeles Lakers small forward finished the season averaging 28.9 points per game while also adding 8.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game.

In addition, James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabar as the all-time scoring leader while also being one of the premier defenders on the defensive side of the floor.

5. Jayson Tatum

Team: Boston Celtics

Previous Ranking: #4

Rounding out the top five players in the NBA for the 2022-23 NBA season is the second part of the Boston Celtics dynamic tandem, Jayson Tatum.

Tatum who is just 25 years old took another huge step forward during his sixth season in the NBA while posting his fourth straight season averaging at least 23 points per game while also topping the 30 points per game mark for the first time in his young career.

Tatum along with teammate Jaylen Brown are two of the most explosive young players in the NBA while having the Celtics as one of the teams to beat within the Eastern Conference. Tatum finished the season averaging 30.1 points per game while also adding 8.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.

4. Luka Doncic

Team: Dallas Mavericks

Previous Ranking: #3

When Luka Doncic is on the floor on most nights, he is the most explosive player on the hardwood and a player who can do it all on both ends of the floor.

The Dallas Mavericks point guard has the potential to post a triple double nearly any night of the week while finishing the 2022-23 NBA season with 10 triple doubles.

Doncic finished the season ranked 2nd in scoring averaging 32.4 points per game, 30th in rebounds averaging 8.6 rebounds per game, and 9th in assists averaging eight assists per game.

In addition, Doncic shot 34.2 percent from behind the three-point line to go along with a 49.6 field goal percentage mark from the field.

3. Joel Embiid

Team: Philadelphia 76ers

Previous Ranking: #1

The 2022-2023 NBA MVP put together his best season in the NBA since arriving back during the 2016-2017 NBA Season leading the league while averaging 33.1 points per game.

In addition to the 33.1 points per game Embiid added 10.2 rebounds per game landing him among 14 NBA players to average a double double during regular season.

In addition, Embiid averaged 4.2 assists, 1.7 blocked shots, and one steal per game while controlling the offense for the Philadelphia 76ers all season.

Despite the strong regular season, Embiid struggled during the post season averaging just 23.7 points per game over nine playoff starts.

2. Giannis Antetokounmpo

Team: Milwaukee Bucks

Previous Ranking: #2

Giannis Antetokounmpo continues to be the top player on the NBA floor on most nights and the most important element to his team each season.

The Milwaukee Bucks All-Star and NBA MVP posted his sixth straight season averaging a double double while posting 31.1 points per game to go along with 11.8 rebounds.

The 31.1 points per game marked a career high along with his first 30 plus points mark for an entire season. With Antetokounmpo on the floor the Bucks posted an NBA best 58-24 record during the regular season.

However, an injury limited him during the postseason while the Bucks failed to move on from the first round of the NBA playoffs.

1. Nikola Jokic

Team: Denver Nuggets

Previous Ranking: #5

The big debate around the NBA season involved who should have won the NBA MVP Award involving Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid.

In the end, Embiid won the MVP award however Jokic took home an NBA Championship to go along with the NBA Finals MVP Award.

Jokic was unbelievable all over the floor both offensively and defensively while being an unselfish player who helped bring up every player around him.

The Nuggets big man finished the regular season averaging 24.5 points per game to go along with 11.8 rebounds and nearly 10 assists per game (9.8 apg). In the playoffs the success continued as Jokic averaged 30 points per game to go with 13.5 rebounds, 9.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game.
