The MLB Playoff push is taking center stage as the calendar month of August approaches the end and the summer heat continues to help deliver exciting baseball.

As you look around Major League Baseball, the number of teams competing for a chance to play in the fall classic is loaded in both the American League and National League.

With this type of play it makes it difficult to slot in ten MLB teams on the Top 10 MLB Teams August 2022 rankings list.

In the National League the Los Angeles Dodgers continue to be red hot as they have pushed their record to 84-37 while holding the best record in Major League Baseball.

Meanwhile both the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets are right on their heels in the National League.

Over in the American League the Houston Astros continue to find ways to win as they have climbed to the best record in the league while the New York Yankees continue to hold strong to the second-best record.

Here is a look at the teams landing on the Top 10 MLB Teams August 2022 rankings list.

Honorable Mention

Cleveland Guardians

Landing just outside of the Top 10 MLB Teams August 2022 Rankings are the Cleveland Indians who currently sit atop the AL Central Division.

Over their past 10 contests, the Guardians have posted a 6-4 record while maintaining a slight lead over both the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins within their division.

Much of their success has come from their pitching that currently ranks 9th in all of baseball in team earned run average with a 3.75 mark.

Meanwhile All-Star third baseman Jose Ramirez leads the team in doubles (37), home runs (23), and runs batted in (99).

Baltimore Orioles

One of the surprise teams to land among teams in consideration for one of the Top 10 teams in Major League Baseball are the Baltimore Orioles.

Yes, the same Baltimore Orioles that have lost at least 100 games in three of the past four seasons with the lone exception coming within the Covid shortened 2020 MLB schedule.

While the Orioles are just five games over .500, the team has been one of the hottest teams in the American League since the arrival of rookie catcher Adley Rutschman while positioning themselves within the AL Wild Card race.

Top 10 MLB Teams

10. Tampa Bay Rays

Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 MLB Teams August 2022 Rankings list is the Tampa Bay Rays who currently sit in second place in the American League East.

In addition, the Rays currently hold the top overall AL Wild Card spot while posting a 66-55 record after winning eight of their past 10 games overall.

The Rays success this MLB season has come from their pitching as they currently rank 3rd in MLB with a 3.33 earned run average while also ranking 4th with a 1.14 WHIP mark as a team.

Leading that push is Shane McClanahan who has pitched to an 11-5 record to go along with a 2.29 earned run average and 173 strikeouts.

9. Seattle Mariners

Making a strong push out in the AL West is the Seattle Mariners who much like the Baltimore Orioles have surged due to the strong play of their young core including AL All-Star Julio Rodriguez.

The potential AL Rookie of the Year Award winner is batting .274 on the year with 19 doubles, 19 home runs and 63 runs batted in.

In all the Mariners have five different players with double digit home runs, six different players with at least 17 doubles, and three different players with at least 62 runs batted in.

8. Philadelphia Phillies

Despite missing NL MVP Bryce Harper since June 25th, 2022, the Philadelphia Phillies remain in the hunt in the National League while holding one of the three NL Wild Card spots.

Off-season moves to bring in both Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos have paid off in the lineup providing the team with a combined 46 home runs to go along with 129 runs batted in.

Overall, the Phillies rank 8th in runs batted in with 541, 6th in home runs with 158 and 9th in overall team batting average with a .252 mark. Their success at the plate has them fighting for a spot in the NL Playoffs.

7. San Diego Padres

While all expectations were set on the return of Fernando Tatis Jr, the San Diego Padres made moves to help push their club on a deep run while the suspension of Tatis left a sting.

The Padres who made one of the biggest blockbuster trades All-Time landing Juan Soto before the trade deadline currently sit with a strong lead within the NL Wild Card while posting a 68-56 record.

Soto delivers the Padres another big weapon in the lineup while the pitching staff continues to be as good as any in the NL.

Currently the Padres rank 7th in all of baseball with a 1.21 WHIP and 8th in team earned run average with a 3.74 mark.

6. St. Louis Cardinals

Year in and year out MLB fans and MLB experts can expect to see the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Playoff picture.

The same can be said for this season as the team has climbed to the top of the NL Central division after pushing their record to 70-51 on the year.

Over their last 10 games the Cardinals have been as good as any team in baseball posting the best mark over that stretch winning nine of their past 10 games including their last eight straight games.

Overall, the Cardinals have a deep line that includes Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado while Albert Pujols has been red hot of late.

5. New York Yankees

The struggles have been real for the New York Yankees over the past month of the season winning just four of their last six games overall and just 6-14 since the start of August.

Despite their recent struggles the Yankees continue to hold onto the second-best record in the American League and an eight-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays within the AL East.

However, the recent struggles have seen their double-digit lead in the division cut while dropping out of home field in the American League playoff picture.

Nonetheless the Yankees have a ton of fire power including AL MVP front runner Aaron Judge who picked up his 47th home run of the season.

4. Atlanta Braves

At number four is the red-hot Atlanta Braves who have climbed into the top NL Wild Card spot while fighting with the New York Mets for the top spot in the NL East.

The Braves are as loaded as any team in baseball while having one of the best young teams in all of baseball.

Led by the MVP play of Austin Riley, the Braves have won eight of their last 10 contests while pushing their overall record to 76-48 on the year.

Coming off their World Series Championship, the Braves don’t look ready to give up this year while getting a ton of production all across their lineup and rotation.

The Braves currently rank 2nd in MLB with 187 home runs, 1st in total bases with 1,872, and 5th in team earned run average with a 3.56 mark.

3. Houston Astros

As you look at these top three teams around Major League Baseball each has been as good as their records have indicated this season and each could have a spot at the top of the list.

The Astros have dominated on the mound this season while ranking second in all of baseball with a 3.08 earned run average.

Much of that success has come from the team’s proven ace Justin Verlander who has returned to their rotation pitching as good as he has across his MLB career.

Verlander has pitched to a 15-3 record this season with a 1.95 earned run average while three other Astros pitchers have recorded at least 10 wins.

2. New York Mets

After losing the NL East last year to the Atlanta Braves the New York Mets went out in the off-season and added more pieces to their roster.

The move has paid off as the Mets currently hold the second-best record in the National League while positioning themselves at the top of the NL East.

One of those off-season moves has been the acquisition of Starling Marte who is batting .293 on the year with 14 home runs and 55 runs batted in.

Meanwhile, starters Max Scherzer, Taijuan Walker, and Carlos Carrasco have combined to post a 32-11 record and a combined 3.20 earned run average.

1. Los Angeles Dodgers

When you are the only team in Major League Baseball to have reached the 80-win mark and you have a 17.5 game lead over the second-place team in your division.

It is easy to see how the Los Angeles Dodgers land at the top of the Top 10 MLB Rookies August 2022 Rankings list.

The Dodgers have been nearly unstoppable for most of the season despite losing Walker Buehler for the remainder of the 2022 MLB schedule.

The Dodgers are as good offensively as they are defensively while ranking near the top in a wide range of statistics. Currently the Dodgers rank 2nd in total bases (1,856), 1st in runs batted in (610) and 3rd in batting average (.261).

On the mound the Dodgers lead all of baseball with a 2.84 earned run average and WHIP with a 1.05 mark.
