The 2022 MLB Schedule is in full swing as the next wave of future stars have arrived as the 2022 MLB rookie class is showcasing their talents to start the season.

As we get set to look at the Top 10 MLB Rookies 2022 rankings, it is hard to put a true list together as top prospects continue to get the call to join the MLB clubs while also joining the group of top rookies.

That said, the cream of the crop of the 2022 MLB rookies is headlined by a few former Top MLB Prospects over the past few seasons.

Three of those former top prospects who are playing at the MLB level are the Kansas City Royals rookie Bobby Witt Jr, Julio Rodriguez of the Seattle Mariners, and Spencer Torkelson of the Detroit Tigers.

While all three of those headlined the preseason Top 10 MLB prospects rankings, all three joined the MLB teams to start the 2022 MLB schedule.

In addition to those three, the MLB Top Rookies rankings include CJ Abrams of the San Diego Padres, Alek Thomas of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Jake Burger of the Chicago White Sox.

With that said, here is our list of the Top 10 MLB Rookies 2022 Rankings:

Honorable Mention

Hunter Greene

Team: Cincinnati Reds

One name to watch during the 2022 MLB schedule is the Cincinnati Reds rookie Hunter Greene. Greene, who was throwing as fast as 102 mph as a senior in high school, has already set an MLB record during the 2022 season throwing 39 pitches recording at least 100 mph or better in his second career start.

While Greene has pitched to an earned run average of 7.00 over his first three starts and one relief appearance, his ability to be a top tier starter is there if he can find his ability to compliment the fast ball.

Daulton Jefferies

Team: Oakland A’s

Another starter joining the Top 10 MLB Rookies 2022 Rankings is the Oakland A’s starter Daulton Jefferies who the team drafted during the 2020 MLB draft.

Jefferies, who has a pitching arsenal that includes four pitches including a solid fast ball and above average changeup has pitched to a 9.64 earned run average over 14 innings of work to start the season for the A’s.

Despite his struggles, Jefferies has posted 14 strikeouts in 14 innings while walking only one batter.

Top 10 MLB Rookies

10. Reid Detmers

Team: Los Angeles Angels

After a strong 2021 season in the Los Angeles Angels minor league system, Reid Detmers has been solid to start the 2022 MLB season pitching to a 5.32 earned run average over 22 innings of work while posting a 1-1 record.

Detmers, who the Los Angeles Angels drafted 10th overall during the 2020 MLB draft, has a solid fastball ranging in the low to mid 90’s while having an excellent curveball and strong changeup in his pitching arsenal. Look for Detmers to continue to grow as a starting pitcher at the MLB level.

9. Jake Burger

Team: Chicago White Sox

The Chicago White Sox former first round pick Jake Burger made his MLB debut during the 2021 MLB season appearing in 15 games while posting a .263 batting average with three doubles, one home run and three runs batted in.

After showcasing his potential, Burger started the 2022 MLB schedule at the MLB level appearing in 21 games for the White Sox posting a .239 batting average to go along with two home runs and seven runs batted in.

While Burger was recently sent back to the minors, expect to see Burger back in the majors during the 2022 season.

8. Christian Pache

Team: Oakland A’s

Once a former top prospect within the Atlanta Braves organization, Christian Pache was included in the team’s offseason trade with the Oakland A’s to acquire Matt Olsen.

After appearing in 24 games over the past two seasons with the Braves in the majors, Pache joined the A’s as a starting center fielder while starting 25 games to start the season.

Pache is an above average outfielder while also having a solid bat. In 89 at bats this season, Pache has one double, one triple, two home runs and six runs batted in.

7. Alek Thomas

Team: Arizona Diamondbacks

After a big time 2021 minor league season in which Alek Thomas batted .313 with 29 doubles, 12 triples and 18 home runs, the Diamondbacks outfielder put together another strong start in 2022 hitting four runs and driving in 14 runs over 24 games before getting called up to the MLB roster on May 8th, 2022.

Thomas, who is expected to compete as one of the team’s top outfielders, should see plenty of time this season on the active roster. Thomas has shown plus power and speed while also above average defensive abilities.

6. Bryson Stott

Team: Philadelphia Phillies

Like many of the top rookies among the Top 10 MLB Rookies 2022 Rankings list, Bryson Stott was a former first round draft pick who the club drafted with the 14th overall pick during the 2019 MLB draft.

After a red-hot start to the 2022 Minor League Baseball season where Stott batted .333 over 36 at bats with two doubles, one triple and two home runs, the Phillies elected to bring him up to the majors.

Since arriving, Stott has struggled batting just .122 over 41 at bats with one double and four runs batted in. Despite the struggles, Stott has showcased his ability to hit since joining the Phillies organization.

5. CJ Abrams

Team: San Diego Padres

After losing All-Star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr during the offseason to a wrist injury, CJ Abrams rose to the challenge while forcing the San Diego Padres to call him up to the opening day lineup.

Abrams posted a solid spring while delivering the team a solid defensive option to man the position till Tatis returns.

Despite the potential he had shown at the minors, Abrams has struggled batting just .182 over 55 at bats to start the season including two doubles, one home run and four runs batted in.

4. Bobby Witt Jr.

Team: Kansas City Royals

Bobby Witt Jr was once the former Top Overall MLB Prospect and is now a Rookie of the Year contender as he joined the Kansas City Royals opening day roster.

Witt, whose father Bobby Witt, pitched 16 seasons in MLB, is just 21 years of age. Through his first 96 at bats this season for the Royals, Witt has batted .229 with one home run, seven runs batted in while also stealing five bases.

Witt Jr has appeared in 24 games at third base and two at shortstop while making only two errors in 71 total chances.

3. Joey Bart

Team: San Francisco Giants

With callups over both the 2020 and 2021 MLB season, Joey Bart has now officially joined the San Francisco Giants for the long haul after the off-season retirement of Buster Posey.

Bart, who posted a .294 batting average in 2021 at Triple-A also posted three straight seasons with at least 10 home runs in the minor. In addition to his plus bat, Bart is also a strong defensive catcher that is great in commanding his pitching staff.

Over his first 19 games to start 2022, Bart is batting .158 with three home runs to go along with 10 walks.

2. Spencer Torkelson

Team: Detroit Tigers

The Detroit Tigers power hitting corner infielder/designated hitter showcased promising power in the minors hitting 30 home runs behind High-A, Double-A and Triple-A while also posting a .267 batting average and driving in 91 runs.

Torkelson, who the Tigers drafted with the 1st overall pick during the 2020 MLB draft, forced the Tigers to promote him to the MLB roster to start 2022.

In 81 at bats to start the season, Torkelson is batting .160 with one double, three home runs and eight runs batted in.

1. Julio Rodriguez

Team: Seattle Mariners

Leading the list of the Top 10 MLB Rookies 2022 rankings list is the Seattle Mariners top overall prospect Julio Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, who was also a Top 5 MLB Prospect, was promoted to the Mariners opening day roster and got off to a hot start batting .255 to start the season with five doubles, one triple, one home run and nine runs driving in.

In addition, Rodriguez is a threat to swipe a bag on any base as he has recorded 10 stolen bases out of 11 opportunities.
