Every four years the world stands still and every football soccer fan prepares himself to watch the most important and prestigious international sport tournament ever made; the FIFA World Cup.

Now, with the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup just around the corner, everybody is getting ready to support their favorite national team.

On this occasion, we will make a list about the most powerful teams that will participate in the World Cup, so are you ready for this? So, let’s begin!

Honorable Mention

Senegal

Nickname: Lions of Teranga

Group: A

Aliou Cissé has been building this side for four years, and now it is one of the most balanced sides in this World Cup.

The winners of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021, this team conformed by Idrissa Gueye, Sadio Mané, Kalidou Koulibaly, and the once considered the best goalkeeper in the world Edouard Mendy, Senegal’s national team can be considered as the dark horse of this World Cup edition. Mané’s injury is something to worry about.

Top 10 FIFA Qatar World Cup 2022 Rankings

10. Switzerland

Nickname: Rossocrociati

Group: G

Murat Yakin continues with the legacy that Vladimir Petkovic created. Switzerland is a team that sometimes it does not look on paper but when they play, they can surprise every national team; they went unbeaten through World Cup qualifiers, and they defeated both Spain and Portugal in the last Nation League fixtures. Both Xherdan Shaqiri and Yann Sommer are different monsters when they play for the national team.

9. Denmark

Nickname: De Rød-Hvide

Group: D

For the last 20 years, the Denmark national team has never been a powerful side, but now with Kasper Hjulmand they play a very efficient and offensive football.

Despite being emotionally affected by Ericksen’s cardiac arrest back in 2021, Denmark was able to defeat France twice and they were also able to win four out of six Nations League games. Gladly, Christian Eriksen has returned and now with him they look even better than before.

8. Belgium

Nickname: De Rode Duivels

Group: F

Belgium was once considered the best national team in the world despite not winning the 2018 World Cup.

They defeated Poland 6-1 in June and showed that they can still produce devastating attacks, but the Golden Generation is fading away, the boys are growing old; both Vertonghen and Alderweireld are the center backs, but we cannot expect bad things because of this. Remember that Belgium’s Hazard single-handedly destroyed Brazil in 2018.

7. France

Nickname: Les Bleus

Group: D

France’s team is extremely packed with talent but despite having arguably the best national team all over the world, Didier Deschamps’ side endured a really disappointing Euros and also finished third in their Nations League group.

Just like in PSG, Kylian Mbappé’s decisions are affecting the team; now he wants to play alongside Giroud or Benzema, and this reduces the tactical options. Both Pogba and Kante will miss the World cup due injury.

6. England

Nickname: The Three Lions

Group: B

It’s coming home this time? We don’t know. Gareth Southgate’s decisions brought a lot of criticisms and controversy but despite that, he managed to produce the strongest England’s side we have seen in the last 20 years.

Sadly, with the injuries of Kyle Walker, Kalvin Phillips, and the best right back in the world Reece James have cooled any optimism… Yeah, you can remember that Harry Kane is still there, so goals will come for sure.

5. Netherlands

Nickname: The Flying Dutchmen

Group: A

After Van Gaal recovered from cancer treatment, he returned to prepare the Dutch team for a new World Cup. They rescued a doomed qualification campaign by producing the best record in the Nations League winning 5 out of 6 games and tying the other one.

Memphis Depay managed to regain his form and now is playing out of this world and with the additions of Cody Gakpo, Jurrien Timber, and Xavi Simons, the team looks really good.

4. Germany

Nickname: Die Mannschaft

Group: E

The Germany national team always looks like the most perfect team when you put it on paper, but will it work this time or will the same thing that happened in the 2018 World Cup?

Hansi Flick is, to be fair, the perfect replacement for Low but will he be able to fix their issues? I have no doubts respecting Flick, I know he will get the best out of this team, the man is a genius. The sad thing is that our boy Marco Reus is injured again.

3. Spain

Nickname: La Roja

Group: E

Luis Enrique’s side is always capable of playing the most mesmerizing and possessive football you will ever see, but there is a problem when they try to turn this possession into both goals and chances.

Sure, they managed to defeat Portugal to top its Nation League group but that does not mean that their problems are solved. Now led by Sergio Busquets in his last World Cup, the team is full of young stars ready to show what they can do.

2. Brazil

Nickname: A Seleção

Group: G

Brazil has only lost one game in the last 29 matches they played, that is a ridiculous record to be honest. Now, they are playing with a very rare attacking format; Neymar himself creating chances for the front three, he is not the main attacking force anymore.

One of the big doubts about the Brazil national team is if they are capable of defending themselves against European teams because the last time they played against one, was in 2018 against Belgium.

1. Argentina

Nickname: La Albiceleste

Group: C

Remember that I said that Brazil only lost one game? It was against Argentina. Lionel Scaloni has brought both hope and happiness to the squad since he arrived and because of this, they look better than ever; they are 35 games unbeaten and they won both the 2021 Copa America and the Finalissima.

This will be, sadly, Lionel Messi’s last World Cup and everybody wants him to win the World Cup. I, personally, know that they will do it… This will be the perfect ending to a perfect career because football soccer owes a World Cup to Messi. Period.
