From November 22 to December 18, 2022, Qatar will host the FIFA World Cup, the largest sporting event in the world. In addition to the host country that automatically secured the ranking, currently 29 national teams have obtained visas to participate in the World Cup.

West Ham’s star Antonio isn’t enough to pull Jamaica to the top. They only had 1 win in those qualifications. Salvador in 7th place and Honduras in the 8th place are classes below top ranked teams in North and Central America. Honduras was so bad that they failed to win even one single match.

5. Panama

Panama finished in 5th place. They will need to level up their game especially away games. They only won 6 points in 7 away matches which is very little in a competition like this one.

4. Costa Rica

Costa Rica, as the fourth-placed team on the table, will play the finals of the Intercontinental Qualifiers. The last obstacle on the way to Qatar is New Zealand. Costa Rica has played 5 times in the World Cup and with the game they showed they should manage to qualify for this World Cup.

3. United States

America lost in the last cup qualifying round in San Jose to host Costa Rica (0: 2), but still kept their third place and direct placement in the World Cup. Many were predicting that the USA would easily finish in 1st place in those qualifications, but the Canadians didn’t think so.

2. Mexico

Mexico did its part with a 2-0 victory at the legendary “Aztec” stadium against El Salvador in the last round. It is not a surprise that Mexico is going to the World Cup since they have 16 appearances on the big stage.

1. Canada

The national team of Canada is among the teams  that secured a ranking and the qualifications are already nearing the end. The draw for the groups of the 2022 World Cup will be drawn on April 1.

The biggest surprise for now is Canada, a country of hockey that has given a lot of great football talent in the last few years. Canada finished in 1st place in CONCACAF region ahead of Mexico and USA.

In four years, the Canadians have climbed from 94th to the highest 33rd  place in the FIFA rankings (better ranked than Russia, Turkey, Egypt, Cameroon).

The stars of the Canadian national team are the versatile back Alfonso Davis who became a key player in Bayern Munich but now has a long break due to health problems and center forward Jonathan David, a footballer who is high on the list of most promising players.

Believe it or not, Canada was one of the first countries to start playing football, of course, because of its close ties to Britain. The first matches in Toronto were played in the middle of the 19th century.

In these qualifications Canada finished in 1st place with 28 points, same as Mexico but better goal difference.

Conclusion

Mexico is the best placed team from CONCACAF zone on FIFA ranking on 12th place. USA is 13 while Canada is on the 33rd place, but they are making big progress on the list lately. Costa Rica is 42nd, Jamaica 62nd, Panama 63rd, Salvador 70 and Honduras in 78th place.

Mexico is the team from which is expected to have a more serious result since they have a great team and big experience in competitions like this.

USA and Canada are expected to finally show that football is alive in that part of the World and maybe these are the generations of players that can make football as famous as hockey and basketball are in these countries.
