Honorable Mention

Carlos Hernández, Sandro Lopopolo, and Takeshi Fuji reigned as the Undisputed Super lightweight champions for a while. Though they don’t make it on our list, they deserve honorable mentions, along with boxers like Wilfred Benitez and Azumah Nelson.

Tony Canzoneri

Tony Canzoneri is among the best fighters to ever step into the ring, however, his achievements at super lightweight aren’t as impressive as his work in other divisions. Still, he deserves an honorable mention in this list.

Top 10 Super Lightweight Boxers

10. Ricky Hatton

Starting off the list, Ricky Hatton is a former boxer from Britain, and he was active between 1997 and 2012. 

Hatton won the WBA, WBC, IBF, IBO, and The ring super lightweight titles on different occasions. He reigned as the unified WBA, IBF, and The Ring champion, and later on, also held the unified WBC and IBO titles. He had a very impressive reign as the WBU champion, making 15 defenses. 

He retired with a record of 45 wins and 3 losses.

9. Duilio Loi

Duilio Loi was a boxer from Italy and he remained active in the sport from 1948 to 1962. 

Duilio Loi reigned as the undisputed champion at super lightweight twice, once in the NBA-NYSAC era, and later in the WBA-WBC era as well. He defended the undisputed world title twice and held multiple regional titles as well. 

He retired with an extremely impressive boxing record of 115 wins with only 3 losses and 8 draws. He passed away in 2008.

8. Eddie Perkins

Eddie Perkins was an American professional boxer, who competed in the ring between 1956 and 1975. 

Perkins was a two-time Undisputed light-welterweight world champion. He won the unified WBA and NYSAC titles and later became the unified WBA, WBC, and The Ring world champion as well. He defended the Undisputed world title twice. 

He retired with a record of 74 wins, 20 losses, 3 draws, and 1 no-contest and passed away in 2012.

7. Barney Ross

Barney Ross was an American professional boxer who was active between 1929 and 1938. 

He held world titles in three different weight classes. He became the world light welterweight champion and defended the title a total of 9 times. 

He retired with a record of 74 wins, 4 losses, and 3 draws, and passed away in 1967.

6. Carlos Ortiz

Carlos Ortiz was a Puerto Rican professional boxer, who competed between 1955 and 1972. 

He held world titles in two weight classes and reigned as the undisputed champion in both the Light and super lightweight divisions. At Super lightweight, he consecutively held the NYSAC and NBA world titles and defended them twice. 

Ortiz retired with a professional record of 61 wins 7 losses 1 draw and 1 no-contest.

5. Niccolino Locche

Niccolino Locche was a boxer from Argentina, and he fought in the ring as a professional between 1958 and 1976.

Locche reigned as the unified WBA and The Ring super lightweight champion for over three years and made 5 title defenses. He defeated some of the biggest names of his time and retired with a very impressive record of 117 wins, 4 losses, 14 draws, and 1 no-contest.

4. Kostya Tszyu

Kostya Tszyu was a Russian-Australian professional boxer, who was active from 1992 to 2005. 

Kostya Tszyu is a two-time Super lightweight world champion and reigned as the undisputed Super lightweight champion as well. He briefly held the unified WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, and The Ring super lightweight titles, and made a total of 12 title defenses throughout his career. 

Tszyu retired with a record of 31 wins 2 losses and 1 no-contest.

3. Aaron Pryor

Aaron Pryor is a former boxer from the USA, and he was active between 1976 and 1990. 

He is a two-time super lightweight world champion. He reigned as the unified WBA and The Ring Super Lightweight champion, and defended the titles 8 times, before winning the IBF title as well. 

Pryor retired in 1990 with a record of 39 wins, 1 loss, and 0 draws.

2. Julio Cesar Chavez

Julio Cesar Chavez is a Mexican Former boxer, who competed in the ring between 1980 and 2005. 

He won multiple world titles in three weight classes. At super lightweight, he won the WBC and IBF world titles and made an impressive 11 title defenses in the division. He also had a very successful career at super featherweight and welterweight. 

Julio Cesar Chavez retired with a record of 107 wins, 6 losses, and 2 draws.

1. Antonio Cervantes

Antonio Cervantes was a Colombian boxer who was active in the ring between 1961 and 1983. 

He was a two-time super lightweight champion who held the unified WBA and the ring super lightweight titles for over 4 years, defending it 11 times. During his second reign as world champion, he made 6 more title defenses, defeating some of the biggest names of his time. 

Cervantes retired in 1983 with a record of 67 wins, 12 losses, and 3 draws.
