This was definitely the year of women’s boxing. Stand out performances from Alycia Baumgardner, Katie Taylor, Claressa Shields, and more either created future super stars are solidified greatness. To see where these great fighters rank in 2022 see below.

Nina Hughes

Title(s):

  • WBA Bantamweight World Champion

Nina Hughes had a great year. She won 4 fights and became the WBA female bantamweight after defeating Jamie Mitchell in her most recent fight.

Jessica McCaskill

Title(s):

  • WBA Welterweight World Champion

  • WBC Welterweight World Champion

  • IBF Welterweight World Champion

  • WBO Welterweight World Champion

  • The Ring Welterweight World Champion

Jessica McCaskill also had a decent year. She started the year off by defending her undisputed welterweight title against Alma Ibarra, then she moved down in weight to fight Chantelle Cameron for the undisputed light welterweight title. However, she lost that fight.

10. Amanda Serrano

Amanda Serrano has had a great year. At the beginning of the year, she moved up to lightweight to challenge Katie Taylor, however, she lost a very close split decision. Still, she came back in September with another excellent title defense at featherweight.

She defended the unified WBC, WBO, and IBO female featherweight titles against Sarah Mahfoud, and won the IBF and The Ring featherweight title as well.

9. Terri Harper

Terri Harper has had a good year. After losing her title at super featherweight last year, she decided to move up in weight.

She fought twice this year, winning the WBA Inter-Continental lightweight title in her first fight against Yamila Belen Abellaneda.

In September, she had one of the biggest fights of her career against Hannah Rankin. Teri Harper won the fight and Won the unified WBA and IBO Super Welterweight titles.

8. Marlen Esparza

2022 has been a good year for Marlen Esparza as well. She fought twice this year and won both of her fights. She also became a unified world champion. Esparza already held the WBC female flyweight title.

Early this year, she defeated Naoko Fujioka and added the WBA and The Ring female flyweight titles to her name. She also defended the unified titles once against Eva Guzman.

7. Franchón Crews-Dezurn

Franchón Crews-Dezurn became the undisputed Super middleweight champion this year. She previously held the WBC and WBO female super middleweight titles, and this year, she fought once against Elin Cederroos.

She won the WBA and IBF super middleweight titles after winning via unanimous decision and became the undisputed champion.

6. Yokasta Valle

Yokasta Valle has easily been one of the most active female boxing champions of the year. She fought 4 times in 2022 and won all of her fights.

She defended her IBF female mini flyweight title twice against Sana Hazuki and Lorraine Villalobos. Then she also won the WBO female mini flyweight title after defeating Nguyễn Thị Thu Nhi.

In her last fight, she moved up to junior flyweight and won the unified IBF and WBO female junior flyweight titles after defeating Evelyn Nazarena Bermúdez.

5. Chantelle Cameron

She already held the WBC, IBF, and The Ring female light-welterweight titles, and added the WBA, WBO, and IBO female light-welterweight titles to her collection after defeating Jessica McCaskill.

Natasha Jonas has been very active in 2022, and it has easily been the best year of her career. She fought three times this year and won all of her fights.

Katie Taylor is easily among the best female boxers in the world right now, and she had an amazing year.

Katie Talor is the current undisputed women’s lightweight champion, and she defended her unified WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF, and The Ring female lightweight titles twice this year, once against Amanda Serrano, and then against Karen Carabajal.

Claressa Shields continued her unbeaten streak in 2022. Shields has won multiple world titles in three different weight classes, and this year, she became the undisputed female middleweight champion.

Claressa Shields already held the unified WBA, WBC, IBF, and The Ring female middleweight titles. She defeated Ema Kozin to win the WBF title, and then later this year she defeated Savannah Marshall and won the WBO middleweight title as well.
