The 2023-2024 Men’s College Basketball season continues to bounce along as the final few games of the regular season have arrived. For many of the top teams in the country, the urgency level continues to rise as teams look to solidify their team resumes with March Madness just around the corner. This includes the Houston Cougars who are one of a handful of teams in position to fight for a number one seed within the 2024 Men’s National Basketball Championship tournament while also grabbing the top spot among the Top 10 Men’s College Basketball Team Rankings.

As March Madness slowly approaches the Cougars continue to rank among the hottest teams in college basketball while posting a 24-3 overall record to start the season. This includes a recent stretch of play that has seen the team win five straight games as well as ten of their last eleven overall contests.

As the Cougars continue to build a strong resume two teams looking to chase the Cougars for a top seed include the defending National Champions the UConn Huskies as well as the Purdue Boilermakers. Joining those three teams among the best teams in Men’s College Basketball include the North Carolina Tar Heels and Kansas Jayhawks.

Here is a look at the Top 10 Men’s College Basketball Team Rankings 2023-2024:

Honorable Mention

Utah State Aggies

Previous Ranking: Unranked

Just missing the Top 10 Men’s College Basketball Team Rankings list is the Utah State Aggies. Despite posting an impressive 22-5 record to start the season the Aggies have gone under the radar for most of the season despite posting a solid start to the season.

The Aggies on the year have posted a 2-0 record against AP Top 25 Ranked teams including the team’s most recent win against the 19th ranked San Diego State Aztecs.

With four different players leading the way including Great Osobor who is currently leading the team in both scoring (17.8) and rebounding (9.1), the Aggies have jumped to first place within the Mountain West Conference as the end of the regular season approaches.

Gonzaga Bulldogs

Previous Ranking: Unranked

Another exciting season of college basketball has delivered another loaded Gonzaga Bulldogs roster looking to make a deep run during March Madness.

The 2023-2024 Bulldogs roster is as loaded as any team in the country including five different players averaging at least ten points per game.

With Graham Ike carrying the load while averaging 16.3 points per game, the Bulldogs have jumped out to a 22-6 record while also ranking among the top scoring teams in the country as a team averaging 86.1 points per game

Entering the final few days of February, the Bulldogs have been red hot winning six straight including a key win over the Kentucky Wildcats back in early February.

Top 10 College Basketball Team Rankings

10. South Florida Bulls

Previous Ranking: Unranked

Coming in at number 10 on the Top 10 Men’s College Basketball Team Rankings list is the South Florida Bulls. Despite sitting at 25th on the AP Top 25 Rankings, the Bulls are a difficult team to look past and a team that is loaded with a ton of talent.

After dropping a difficult 75-71 loss to the UAB Blazers back in January, the Bulls have been the hottest team in the country winning thirteen straight games including two wins against AP Top 25 ranked opponents.

Led by senior guard Selton Miguel, the Bulls have been brilliant on both ends of the floor all seasons including leading the team in scoring averaging fifteen points per game.

9. Marquette Golden Eagles

Previous Ranking: Honorable Mention #1

As all eyes are on the UConn Huskies within the Big East Conference, the Marquette Golden Eagles have made some quiet noise jumping out to a 21-6 overall record while sitting second within the conference.

With Kam Jones averaging 15.8 points per game, Tyler Kolek averaging 15.1 points per game, and Oso Ighodaro averaging 14.2 points per games, the Golden Eagles have posted twenty-one wins over their first twenty-seven games of the season while also with the strong veteran leadership the Golden Eagles have posted a 4-2 record against ranked opponents this season.

8. Tennessee Volunteers

Previous Ranking: #6

The Tennessee Volunteers are starting to heat up at the right time of the basketball season with just four games remaining on their regular season schedule.

Despite the limited schedule the Volunteers have an opportunity to solidify their seeding with four straight games remaining against ranked SEC opponents to include the #16 Kentucky Wildcats, #11 Auburn Tigers, #14 Alabama Crimson Tide, and the #18 South Carolina Gamecocks.

Leading the way for the Volunteers all season is the John Wooden Candidate Dalton Knecht who is putting together a brilliant season while ranking 27th in the country in scoring averaging 20.1 points per game. Over their last ten games, the Volunteers have posted an 8-2 overall record including a key win over the Kentucky Wildcats.

7. Arizona Wildcats

Previous Ranking: #10

When it comes to scoring the Arizona Wildcats are as good as any in the country while ranking just behind the Alabama Crimson Tide while averaging 90.1 points per game.

Continuing to carry the load for the Wildcats all season is the senior guard Caleb Love who leads the team in scoring averaging just twenty points per game (19.4).

Despite dropping a disappointing 77-74 game to the 21st ranked Washington State Cougars, the Wildcats continue to remain one of the hottest teams in the country including winning seven of eight games since January 27th as well as winning eleven of their fourteen games since the calendar flipped from 2023 to 2024.

6. Iowa State Cyclones

Previous Ranking: Unranked

Another sleeper team making a push among the best teams in college basketball is the Iowa State Cyclones who have won 21 of 27 games to start the season. Using the team’s stingy defense that currently ranks eighth in the nation while allowing just 62.9 points per game, the Cyclones have been as tough of a team as any to put points up on the board against.

Currently the Cyclones have six different players averaging at least one steal this season including Keshon Gilbert who is averaging 1.6 steals per game while also leading the team in scoring posting 14.1 points per game.

While a difficult loss to Houston dropped the Cyclones to second place within the Big 12 conference, the team rebounded with a 71-64 win over the West Virginia Mountaineers to push their season record to 21-6 over their first twenty-seven games of the season.

5. Kansas Jayhawks

Previous Ranking: #7

Rounding out the Top 5 Men’s College Basketball teams landing on the Top 10 Men’s College Basketball Team Rankings list is the Kansas Jayhawks. The Jayhawks are as dangerous as any team in the country, especially as March Madness gets ready to tip off.

Currently the Jayhawks have one of the best duos in the country in Kevin McCullar Jr and Hunter Dickinson dominating to start the season. The tandem is currently averaging 37.3 points per game to go along with 17.3 rebounds, 6.6 assists, 2.5 steals, 1.6 blocked shots per game.

Led by those two dangerous weapons the Jayhawks have won five of their last seven games while posting a 2-1 record against AP Top 25 Ranked opponents including a key win over the Houston Cougars back on February 3rd, 2024, to open up their play this month.

4. North Carolina Tar Heels

Previous Ranking: #3

Over the years the North Carolina Tar Heels have built up a powerful reputation ranking among the best teams within the ACC conference. The same can be said for the 2023-2024 NCAA Basketball season after the team has jumped out to the top spot within the conference while posting a 22-6 record to start the season.

Despite losing Caleb Love to the transfer portal this season the Tar Heels have found talented play across the court including at the guard position with RJ Davis.

Davis, who is coming off a season high forty-two points in the team’s key win over the Miami Hurricanes, pushed his season average to 21.7 points per game while leading the team to a first-place position within their respective conference.

3. Purdue Boilermakers

Previous Ranking: #2

When it comes to the top three teams in Men’s College Basketball each are well deserving of the top spot while separating themselves from the rest of the field. One of those talented teams is the Purdue Boilermakers who are looking to capture the Big Ten Conference Championship while also securing a number one seed for the 2024 NCAA Men’s National Championship game.

Led by John Wooden candidate Zach Edey the Boilermakers currently rank seventh in the country while averaging 84.8 points per game. The reigning National Player of the Year is averaging a double double averaging 23.7 points per game to go along with 11.8 rebounds while leading the team in both statistics.

Over the course of the season the Boilermakers have been unbeatable against AP Top 25 ranked opponents while posting a 6-0 record including knocking an extraordinarily strong Arizona Wildcats team that was ranked first at the time of their meeting.

2. UConn Huskies

Previous Ranking: #1

It is impossible to write off this talented UConn Huskies team who are looking to repeat as National Champions. Entering the final few days of February, the Huskies currently sit in a three-way tie with the Purdue Boilermakers and Houston Cougars after all three teams have posted a 24-3 or 25-3 record to start the season.

Led by one of the deepest starting rosters within the college basketball landscape that features all five players averaging at least 10.9 points per game, the Huskies have dominated to start the season while taking home the Big East Conference lead.

Despite dropping a difficult matchup to the Creighton Bluejays back on February 20th, the Huskies bounced back with a key win over the Villanova Wildcats in their last contest. The Huskies have been as hot as any team in the country winning fifteen of their last sixteen overall games including fourteen straight before the disappointing loss to the Bluejays.

1. Houston Cougars

Previous Ranking: #5

In at number one on the Top 10 Men’s College Basketball Team Rankings list is the Houston Cougars. The Cougars have jumped out to the best record in basketball after winning twenty-four of their first twenty-seven games of the season.

The impressive performance this season includes winning five straight games to lead into late February including a key 82-76 win over the Baylor Bears to secure them atop the Big 12 Conference this season. Leading the way for the Cougars on the offensive end of the floor all season is L.J. Cryer who is averaging fifteen points per game while shooting 39.9 percent from the floor.

However, while the team is led by a talented core, it has been their aggressive style of defense that has carried the team all year. Currently the Cougars lead the country in points allowed per game while allowing just 56.1 points per game and a 37.6 shooting percentage.
